I fulfilled a childhood dream of living with a tribe in the jungle. While in Panama, I booked an experience through Viator to stay with the Emberá Tribe to witness the beautiful life inside one of their only remaining indigenous tribes. I spent 24 hours with the Embera Tribe fishing, eating, building and sharing stories around a campfire.
This is the tour I booked: www.viator.com/tours/Panama-C...
There are roughly 33,000 Emberás left in Panamá and another 50,000 living just across the border in Colombia.
We want to give a special thanks to Viator for sponsoring this video and fulfilling a childhood dream for Siya! Viator offers over 300,000 travel experiences around the world for every interest and age. You can check out some of the tours we did in Costa Rica in this video link to video and if while you're planning your 2024 travels, be sure to head on over to the Viator website to see which experiences are offered in your destinations www.viator.com/?pid=P00153738...

I really enjoyed this vlog. Reminds me of the time I stayed in the rural Amazon jungle in Brazil for a week. Beautiful drone shots and culture in this video. 😊

That sounds awesome. What was your favorite experience from that trip? Kristen also spent 10 days in the Brazilian Amazon while she was filming a TV show called Angry Planet. It was wild! Thanks so much for watching. Where are you heading to next?

Yes, I’m drawn to this way of living. It’s as if I have lived this, and my soul calls for it, the older I get. 🌞🌻

This was wonderful, Siya. It's also great to see that the life you're family is building in Costa Rica is not that different than the life of the Embera

This is cool! A friend of mine actually visited them, too, and he said, the Embera tribe taught him more about sustainable living in an afternoon than any eco-influencer ever could. Kidding aside, I haven't been there but I think I'm getting closer. I'm currently in Antigua and Barbuda to film one of our TV show and hoping somehow, it lands in this country.

This is very interesting. We did a cruise ship shore excursion to this very place. (March 2023.) We spent the day here. While it was interesting and the folks here were lovely...this is a tourist attraction. We spoke to the younger kids. This is a SHOW for the tourists. They bus to school, the parents do this as an attraction. Sorry folks, this is not a remote, jungle tribe in Africa or somewhwere. We also went for a little unaccompanied walk around the village. Bud cans etc all around under those huts on stilts. 😂 We mentioned this to our guide, he was like " Well, whatever what do you expect?" This is a day trip, shore excursion..its also located in a National Panama Park. We enjoyed our time, but dont think for a second those "local goods" they are selling were made there lol. Sure, some folk live there (not ideal, Im told the government pays them to be there and keep up the facade) like dude says, "Email Viatour" and they'll set you up!

That was so amazing! Teaching a tribesman how to use a drone, that is freakin incredible! How far was that place from where you live? Those kids are really going to enjoy that telescope! One time i met a person who had never used a telescope before. I told him he should look into it.

Man, with that pricing on Viator, I feel like part of that tribe just works in shifts and they live ‘comfortably’ in cities

Is embera matriarchal or patriarchal?

Would you know if it would be possible for them to welcome a human or a group of humans from another culture in the long term? I would like to join a tribe that has been living in harmony with nature for a long time. Because the “society” in which I live does not suit me. Joining a tribe is a dream of mine that I have had since I was a young child. I would obviously be ready to forget all my past, my beliefs, and move forward with them.

That's a great question. I'm not sure. I think you would need to go any stay for a week, get to know them and tell them what you're interested in and go from there.
@youyouulf

wow... 24 hours ... that's really something! I guess you'll know everything worth knowing about this tribe, especially since you're spending the night ... OMG, you're such a hero, also for bringing a bag of rice! That's impressive! Also, most of the clips in this video shows you talking, taking baths or eating. Did you forget to show the daily life of the tribe? Next time, maybe turn the camera the other way. We already know how you look, and believe me, you're not that interesting to watch. Or maybe I'm out of line here, because this video is more about you than the people you visit.

Your most definitely out of line here this video isnt about the tribe it’s about him spending the night with the tribe and he showed exactly that and more…why would you go to the tribe and start constantly shoving the camera in their face? That’s rude and he even says at the end he specifically didn’t record them much that way he could have genuine conversations and interactions with them

I can understand why you did this. But better to leave this tribe alone. Civilization will destroy like so many others who've made contact before...

You might have missed the part in the video where I explained this. The tribe has access to visit Panama City, one of the most developed cities in Central America...yet they choose to stay where they are because they prefer it. Tourism helps bring in some income so they can buy things like medication, gasoline, rice, etc. Seems like a good balance wouldn't you think?
