เป็นชนเผ่าที่ประเพณีมีความผูกพันเกี่ยวโยงกับธรรมชาติ
และสิ่งแวดล้อม มักจะตั้งบ้านเรือนที่อยู่อาศัยบริเวณไหล่เขา
และมักดำเนินชีวิตด้วยการทำการเกษตรและทำไร่

โดยลักษณะการแต่งกายของชาวอาข่า
จะมีเอกลักษณ์คือชาวอาข่าจะใช้ผ้าฝ้ายทอเนื้อแน่น
ย้อมเป็นสีน้ำเงินเข้มและสีดำ ผู้หญิงจะสวมเสื้อตัวสั้น,
กระโปรงพลีทสั้น, ผ้าคาดเอวและผ้าพันน่องห้อยคอด้วยลูกปัด
โดยมีจุดเด่นที่หมวกประดับด้วยลูกปัดหลากสี
ส่วนผู้ชายจะสวมเสื้อคอกลมแขนยาว กางเกงขาก๊วย สีเดียวกัน
