My bro and I owned a 21’ Skater with twin 200’s modded to 275hp back in the early ‘90s. This video comes real close to replicating how insane that boat was.

@@tony97gt I can't imagine the feeling you have running these things at 7500-8000 RPM Tony, the sound they make, especially at the top end is something that must be experienced to understand. But since I haven't won the lottery, clips like this are the only way I will ever experience the thrill of a ride on one of these is through clips like this so I want to say thank you for sharing your incredible machine with us.

I've never won the lottery either my friend. When I bought the boat I only paid $30k for it. I bought with a friend so we split everything. We eventually bought the 280's and had them rebuilt and tuned up by Diamond Marine. It was definitely a thrill ride each time.

That's one helluva tunnel Hull porpus you gotta power through. Usually don't see it that rough.
@tony97gt3 жыл бұрын
It's probably because most videos are taken on a body of water that's got a little chop to it, or a slight breeze. This water was flat as glass and no wind. The chop and breeze actually help pack air under the tunnels quicker and you can get thru the hop faster.

@tony97gt11 ай бұрын
The lower units are counter rotating. The engines are aligned to within 1/8” of each other but the fisheye effect of the GoPro makes them look like they’re not.

It's an illusion because of the GoPro lens

What causes that terrible Skater Porpoise? Is it because of no center pod or a bad setup? I've had numerous Eliminators (Liberators are molds they bought from them so the same) and 3 DCBs from a Mach 22 up to a M 31 and none have ever porpoised like that.
@tony97gt3 жыл бұрын
I believe the eliminator and liberator hull is not a true tunnel hull, but more of a hybrid. All skaters have the porpoise so it's not due to setup.
@GT-mn3bx3 жыл бұрын
@@tony97gt True, I guess this is the Mod VP style bottom like STVs, Mirages etc. I know some bigger Cats have that as well. All 3 of my DCB's did too. I think the huge DCBs like the M37 Widebody does also. Do Talons have the center pod?

Do you have a lot of problems with the mid sections? Im a V guy but always wanted a cat but everyone I know always has breakage issues. Have friends with skaters and spectres. The skater is always down due to one of the motors and the other friend with a 36 spectre only runs it every other year due to the expense of broken drives. Going fast costs money but the money they spend scares me lol. Nothing worse than walking pass a laid up boat on the way to or way back from work
@tony97gt7 жыл бұрын
I never had an issue with my midsections at all. A lot of people run into problems because they try to half-ass repair things or do it themselves instead of spending the money to do it right. Just my opinion...Yes, going fast costs money.

1:55 What's that porpoising all about?
@tony97gt3 жыл бұрын
It’s a natural thing on tunnel hull boats when they’re in flat water. Happens around that speed while the boat is trying to pack air underneath it and get on top of the water. You’ve gotta power thru it until you pass it.
@j.thomas71283 жыл бұрын
@P J Oh? I didn't know that. Thank you. I had a Daytona 19 (kevlar) with a 2.5 offshore as well as a Daytona 23 (highside) with twin 300s and never experienced that amount of porpoising. Granted, the hulls were older and heavier late 80s Eliminators, but they never had that much bounce. I'd either drop the Jack plate(s) giving the prop(s) more bite or give it more trim to carry the nose until it packed air and could carry itself. This is "normal" for these Skater hulls? I also remember running an early 90s STV that would porpoise a little, but it was more porpoise with rock from sponson to sponson until it "farted" and sat its ass down. Wow boat and hull tech has changed. By chance, have you had any time in Magic 28 Decks? I need to log back into Scream and Fly, but can't remember logins.
