4 cylinder vacuum engine, built part of a drawing and the most off personal idea.I have a drawing of a single engine called the Luts, which I made as the Red Baron, and now a four-cylinder called The Baron. It was not easy to make, the most sizes are not there and I should find it while building but it has been successful.

Seeing the valves popping @5:10 reminded me of the U-96's diesel engines in Das Boot when the mechanics were flaming off excessive gas and the petty officer passed through and said, "That's a good way to waste fuel!"
@AnonyMous-gt8vq
@AnonyMous-gt8vq 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe one could make the engine more efficent by using an injector and spark plug to time the flame exactly when it is being sucked in. You could also adjust the speed by adjusting the amount of fuel being injected. Compression ratio would still be limited to 1 in this type of engine though

Some engines have a hood over the flame inlet so the flame doesn't come in contact with the engine parts above it, might reduce the carbon buildup. I wonder if there is a way of adjusting the amount of the flame in time with the inlet opening so as it opens the flame gets bigger, and when it closes the flame reduces. I know these vacuum engines were very inefficient in their day. Lovely work.

Excellent work! I apologize ahead I'f I'm mistaken, but It looks like you've made the cooling heat sinks on the cylinders out of Aluminum, press fit to a brass cylinder. Aluminum and Brass don't get along. they eat at each other through a process called Galvanic Corrosion. Again If I'm wrong, I apologize. I just hate to see a lot of work go bad due to mismatched materials.
@241975dm

Why do these kind of engines need to warm up? I thought the cooler the cylinder is, the better, since it takes its energy from the temperature difference between the flame and the cylinder wall.
@ArtemXify
@ArtemXify 2 жыл бұрын
I was asking the same question. I am not a mechanical engineer, so the only clue I could think of is that probably some parts of the engine have to expand with heat for good enough vacuum to be achieved
@brianstevens2327
@brianstevens2327 Жыл бұрын
@@ArtemXify That is correct. two of the same engines behave differently one starts faster the other more warm up is needed.

What I do NOT understand is why they engineered these engines upside-down! Consider this: if the flame inlet were directly in the center of the top of the cylinder head with the flame directly above that inlet, and then you TURNED THE ENTIRE ENGINE MECHANISM UPSIDE-DOWN, then those four flames wouldn't have to be blazing away wasting 90% of their energy into the atmosphere; they could instead be tiny little flames efficiently entering those inlets, couldn't they? Why do I have to do all the thinking around here?! :)
