Long sloppy video of a chain I made this week. Still needs some finishing but I don't think I'll melt this one. Hang it with the others.
thanks for watching. subscribe to make me happy, trying to grow some.

That's how old European jewelry was made. Look at the gold chains found on Spanish shipwrecks in the Caribbean. And 24K. The more flaws, the better. Hand made is always more valuable than manufactured. Nice work! How much have you invested in tools, and torches, and the wire press thingy, and other setup, if you don't mind me asking? I'd love to do this. p.s. If you ever want to sell this one or others, lmk.

@@SmartBettsPM yes I will buddy 👍 just need to make sure I have everything I go to Thailand on Tuesday for 10 days I will collect the rest of my gold then start it once home Another question… I can solder fine so ain’t worried about that at all But… what solder to use ? I’ve seen others fuse the links I’ve seen some use tiny 24k left overs I’ve also just been told to make my own solder like this 0.05 zinc 0.5.5 silver 0.40 copper then Gold added rest at 60% makes great solder and still hallmark at 24k

You should also put a little plaque/link with 24k stamped on it or 999 because this stuff will outlive you.

Good call. I have a stamp for other projects but didn't know where to mark this one. Little plaque is a great idea.

You did a really good job with this mate those in the comments have probably never tried it themself Making a chain is bloody tedious and time consuming It’s the wire for me I have problems with Soldering I’ve been doing a few year If your serious about this making gold please try sand casting It will blow your mind bro You can clone anything I make rings with dogs ashes and love it

I made a ring in a sand casting but that's my only experience. I poured it into the sand. I know there are ones that spin super fast. I'll have to look into experimenting! Appreciate you watching and commenting! This stuffs fun!

I always watch there stuff. My flat link is the biggest they sell except the newest chain that's like 30k. I want to get fatter heavier chains without tossing premiums into someone else's pocket. Gonna learn to make if it takes me forever. Lol.

@@SmartBettsPM From what I've seen, you're supposed to put a little piece of gold or some powdered gold on the joints before you solder.

@@jackfntwist yea. Lots of people use 22k solder. I can use 24k pieces to help fuse. For sure! I'll do some practicing of different methods.

Question please buddy How did you know how long to make the wire ? So working out the links size am I right in thinking if I want a 24” chain And let’s say 5mm size links That’s 5 links of 5mm to every inch So 5x24 = 120 total links Is this correct? It’s hard working this out without wasting gold 😂 I have 45g of gold bars But no idea how thick to do the links or how big lol I’m just thinking of a 24” or 26” chain Nothing online about this helps at all I’ve been told to do 6mm size links for a 26” chain But no mention how thick 1mm or 2mm 🤷‍♂️ Please helpppppp 😂

I'll be honest, I didn't math it out. I made the chain once and it was too thick and not long enough. So I melted and did it again. Then the second time I loved the thickness but it was still not long enough so I added more gold. My links are about 1.75mm thick and 7mm around. 28" total length and weighs 4oz. You will need the wire to be pretty thin maybe .5mm

@@SmartBettsPM ah ok mate 👍 yea I’ve just done the melt and made the wire 1mm thick and 5mm It did work out like I mentioned You get 5 links to every inch So a total of 120 links was needed I then made x2 flat jump rings And a 3 gram M clasp I’m very happy with it But I haven’t soldered yet so I plan on laying out 60 links seperate and fusing them together first Then that saves time soldering every link I’m going to try fuse the whole chain and not use any solder see how that goes But I have some very think gold left over I may add a tiny amount of zincs to it and thin it out so it’s easier to melt getting it from .999 to .950
