Todays video isnt so much about specific lenses themselves more the focal length on any particular brand, Canon also have great 24mm and 35mm lenses so hopefully this may help you decide between the two.

Chryseas S. I also agree and I have both. Something worth mentioning though is all these examples are of of just 2 subjects in the middle of the frame. When you start shooting with more peps in the frame you really have to watch that edge distortion with the 24mm that you don’t have with 35.

I just got the 24mm 1.4 and I'm worried about it being too wide for my general purpose lens... I'm so used to my Canon 35 (just too heavy to keep in the bag as a walk around lens). It's odd because when I used my 24-70, I shot at 24 A LOT! I'll have to test it more. I can't wait for night shots with the 24 though!

@@thirdmort You won't be disappointed with the 24 GM at night - fantastic detail which allows you to crop in during editing if the shot seems too wide for your taste. This lens has really spoiled me and is my new benchmark for what I want in my kit - good job Sony for getting my money, ha,ha!

I have a 25mm F2 Zeiss and 35m F1.4 by Sony/Zeiss but I find the 25mm to be more useful for my use and like you said, it is more dramatic and I prefer that, actually. Plus, I use a7RIII, so, cropping isn't an issue.

Both make beautiful shots but this definitely reaffirmed my desire to switch from 35 to 24. Just fits my style better. And I typically shoot in tighter spaces where I need to be closer to my subject, and where background distortion isn’t an issue.

Both brilliant, 35 looks more about the couple but 24 has the whole scene. I always worried about shooting portraits at 24 as it may be mistaken for the average mobile phone focal length, have you ever been asked was it on a phone as phones are getting much better?

Thanks a lot for this video. One question tho, as you are fellow Sony shooter, is the 16-35 GM good enough to replace the 24gm and 35gm? I shoot mainly landscapes, environmental portraits and a bit of street photography while traveling. I have an 85mm to shoot portraits. I prefer to have the prime lenses for their compactness and sharpness. But switching between lenses is troublesome and prime lenses sometimes doesn't offer the versatility a zoom lens would. Really stuck between choosing 24GM, 35 GM and 16-35 GM. I would really appreciate if you help me decide. Thanks in advance.

The 24mm tells more of a story as it provides more context by including more of the surrounding environment… whereas the 35mm gives off more of an intimate vibe due to the fact that it crops in on the subjects more.. the subjects are the focus. I personally have the 24mm and it is my favourite lens by a mile.

I would say A7R III with a 24 1.4 GM, 55 1.8/50 1.4, 105 1.4/135 1.8 GM would be a great combo. Wide, medium, telephoto focal lengths. The APSC mode will allow 35, 85 and 200mm with these lenses, not exactly but close enough. You are almost getting the 24-200mm focal length cover at f1.8 or wider appertures.

Chris, (just subscribed) I prefer the 35mm shots. My dilemma, I've upgraded from Canon 80D to the Canon R, I am an NZ Adventure & Camping KZfaqr that requires one lens that's light, compact & stable to Vlog whilst walking, shooting b-roll, walk-throughs, campsite & camp cook-up scenes on a tripod, low light & photo performance is important. Do I get the RF 24 or 35 or use my EF adapter mount with another? If it’s about the place 24 but if it’s about the subject the 35. There is a lot more energy to a larger than life 24 mm shot but definitely the 35 is more intimate and zeroes in on the subject. It would be a tough pick but although I prefer the look of 24 I would get the 35 first if I could only have one unless I was a landscape/architecture photographer. Anything with a human, animal, or product as subject is going to be better served with the 35.

35mm not far looks like 50mm do just potrait with lilbit more background its nice, but 24mm its always looks like paint whole surround object tells the story i like 135 1.8, 85 1.8, 50 1.8 i love 24 1.4

yes 24, 50/55 combo is really good, i would say a 105 or 135 would be more versatile than the 85 but more costly ofcourse

I use the 24 and the 35. When I use a 35mm f/1.4 as my main lens, I flank it with a 21mm f/1.4 and a 90mm f/2 When I use a 50mm f/1.4 as my main lens, I flank it with a 24mm f/2 and a 105mm f/2.5

mohammed elony i don’t know if you’ve tried the 50mm 1.4 Zeiss but everyone I know who has that lens loves it, I think Sony May consider that to be up to the standard of their GM line up so they may not update it. It’s also one of the sharpest lens available for Sony cameras along with the sigma 35 1.2, 24mm gm, 135mm gm, and sigma 105 1.4.

Definitely the 35mm for me in this setting. It makes the people more of the subjects and there is less distortion. But I like the 24mm more for landscapes or indoor shoots. Why not have both, they’re useful!
