35+ hours and only 10% completion... i love this game

My tip would be that when you interrogate enemies, always do *both* the "spit it out" and "where's the rest" options, because you pick up extra heroism that way, even if the enemy hasn't got anything else to tell you.

Protip: press R2 to make bullets come out of your gun.

Here's my own list to expand on or give better advise with. 1) Get used to subduing. It's much harder to learn it later after you played a while by killing. 2) You'll eventually come across guards with helmets and flak jackets. Aim for arms and legs if you can instead of risking hitting them in head and not the face. Also, booty shots drop them relatively quickly. 3) If you kick an enemy awake, you can hold them up before they get up. You can then Hold L2 (or whatever Xbox and PC has) and interrogate them just the same. 4) Only sell vehicles, turrets and plants from Resources. Even then, keep a budget on them. I sell all turrets after 20, all vehicles after 5, and all plants after 1,000. Also, remember that your GMP is capped at 5 million. 5) Keep your obsolete/crap mercenaries for when you gain the ability to create security teams. You'll want to build up defenses early to keep other players from stepping all over you. 6) To go with #1: get used to being efficient with stealth as early as you can. A small difference in skill is the deciding factor with how simple or hectic a mission is. 7) To go with #6: get used to trying out different tactics early. Whether it's baiting guards, closing in on enemies, intercepting target VIPs or vehicles, etc. Again, complicated and easy is better then simple and brutal. 8) Upgrade your tools as early as possible. New Fulton and Binos will help expand your staff much better. 9) To go with #8 and ones with efficiency: Heroism will help expand your PMC staff with better skills. You could be OP early if you play right. You get more heroism the better you play. 10)For Combat Deployments, don't send your highest ranked staff unless you have a decent number of them. Also, try to get 95% Success Rate and minimal Unit Loss Rate. 11) Do Side Ops as they appear. There are some that give more than just GMP and staff. 12) Don't be afraid to raid a compound after clearing it. With the right Fulton and compound, you can get quite a killing from vehicle and turret extraction. 13) The Water Gun can destroy electrical equipment. This includes comms and generators. Wherever the water lands creates a noise distraction as well. 14) There are Side Ops where there are inevitably gunships. If you come to a landing zone where there is one on a side of the ACC, take a moment before leaving to clip its wings with the Gatling Gun before exiting the ACC. It raises less of an alarm than rockets and frees up a slot for a sniper rifle (for you tranq players, like me). 15) Decoys are extremely dangerous weapons in a pacifist player's artillery. You can throw them near enemies and activate them, knocking out the enemy. It works well with groups as it can knock out multiple and distract any remaining. You can also bring different kinds for both situation approaches and additional uses. I CANNOT stress their use enough! To be continued as more are found/remembered.

Another tip. Keep an eye out for boaster skill soldiers. They lie about their ranks

MY TIP: Do the "Legendary Gunsmith" SideOp immediately. Then do the 2 that come after. Once you do the 3rd you can customise your weapons. This will save you a lot on R&D early and give you a serious edge. For example, instead of having to wait to develop a silenced non-lethal sniper rifle, you can customise your regular non lethal to have the suppressor from your lethal one.

Protip: Use the tape “Soldier with Stomach Ache” when you are in a urinal. So soldiers will stay away from you.

heres another one: if you dive while standing with the box on, and hold the dive button, you will slide as long as you hold it. so you can basically slide down giant hills in a box.

One more tip...you can zoom seemlessly with binoculars using d-pad up and down

Tip. If you dive into an enemy it knocks them down.

9:37 ok dont listee to that guy, selling resources its something you should never, EVER do. If you are gonna sell something sell vehicles like tanks, the are worth a lot and as long as you keep about 3 to yourself, you will be fine.

6 years later I'm watching this. Bought the game a year ago and just started playing Friday night. I'm freaking hooked and amazed how well MGS has done over so many years.

little fun fact: if you play with one of the captured charather instead of snake, and this characther has the negative ability to spread illness, grabbing an enemy before sending it to the base will have him sick in the medbay instead of the jail

It took me a bit to find it and it was entirely by accident, but there is a fast travel in the game. You basically have to find a small orange platform at all of the bigger enemy posts, then remove an invoice from the sign. You then would just have the box out while still on it and the prompt will come up. In order for it to work, however, you need to find the other platforms throughout the maps.

35 hours+? I'm over 100+ and only at 75% completion, this game is wild

additional tip: you can interrogate a guard without grabbing them. when you kick them simply point your gun at them and they'll put their hands on their head and face the ground. you can then interrogate them like you would in the grab menu (hold L1 and use the options) you don't need to point your gun at them all the time, just once to get their hands on their head...additionally you can instead of wasting another bullet on them, simply kick them when their down one more time to knock them out. NOTE: this WILL NOT WORK ON MOTHER BASE STAFF because they don't react to snake pointing a gun at them. THIS WILL HOWEVER WORK IN FIELD ON ANY ENEMY that i can think of atleast. final note, holding people up won't always work the first time. they may fight back and resist your gun. (i.e. Fake hands up, then turn around with a knife). you can just spam the cqc button to knock them back out then when they're on the ground, aim at them to get into hold up mode

Tip 26: The Final Countdown is the best helicopter music.

TIP: When sending units on Outer Ops- look at the titles for the missions themselves. Some will say (helmets) or (flashlights) etc. THIS IS IMPORTANT! If your unit successfully completes the mission then it will affect main missions. For instance, if your men complete a mission that has (helmets) next to the title, then the enemies in the level will have less helmets when you go on the mission!! There are similar effects for other enemy equipment as well! There's actually more to it than that though, but I don't know how to explain it.

1 more tip: During night time in the ACC: Look at the window to Snake's right and zoom in. You should see a rather interesting reflection...

I love the fact that I can insert my own music mp3s. More games should have this option. Seriously. Its 2023 and this game came out in what, 2016? This should be par for the course of modern gaming

Another tip! not sure if its been said already lol But the Enemy satellite dishes on the edge of each enemy camp etc, C4 them!!! and this will allow you helicopter more lading sites :) apologies if this has already been mentioned!

Major Tip for PC gamers: when looking through your scope you can push in your scroll to do the quick zoom in and zoom out. You do not have to press T or w/e they tell you to. Went through the first 5 hours without realizing this.

One thing I've found pretty useful is if you've got the maximum amount of GMP (i've spent a bunch on building new bases, upgrading the weapons and items I use most but still have a pretty hefty surplus), the amount I think it 5,000,000GMP, you can still send units on combat deployment, and they'll earn GMP if their missions are successful. However, you don't have to accept that GMP straight away. You can accept the GMP rewards via the Mother Base Rewards menu, but it's sometimes better to keep that GMP in layaway, since accepting it might send you over your GMP limit, and result in wasted accepted GMP that simply goes nowhere!

My tip! while aim press the square button to switch instantly from primary to secondary weapon!

When you call in a supply drop, regardless of item, the cost is a fusion of Pequod's price and the price of your item of choice. If the chad excites himself and maxxes out the chopper, the cost'll be 60.000GMP along with the supply's cost. When you get far enough in the game, this doesn't really matter. It's more of a warning for newcomers.

7 years later doing one of my first times playin and these tips helped out a lot.

Tip While aiming press on playstation square or xbox press x and you will switch weapons. So if i have a pistol out but i need my rifle i can press x or square. In the options menu you can change it to 2 or 3 weapons while under the tab (Switching While Readying a Weapon). Hope this helped anyone

Be mindful of what gear you have equipped. Filling up your items/support items list can plow through your GMP very fast as I learned the hard way with a 75K GMP load out in a few missions. It cost money and resources to deploy with everything. I only take 3 support and 2 regular items+weapons and still cost me 24K to deploy. Also, always fulton containers, vehicles, gun emplacements and walker gears. You can sell them for a profit. Walker gears sell for 50K but it cost only 10K to extract them, so thats 40K GMP.

26: Dont kill quiet, she is the best buddy in game. She has a tranquilizer and a bullet sniper. She is excellent for stealth, but I do not know how to put a suppressor on her gun. 27:Get S rank on every mission To do so, you need to get no reflex modes, and you need to do it quick. S on all 50 missions will result in a special character that is faster than Snake. His name is Raiden. He is from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. 28. Upgrade your stun arm to the max. You can hold it long enough to lightning strike everyone in a 45m range. (Hits more than 1 person, overpowered for enemy outposts.) 29. Try to switch play tactics every 2 missions. If you go for headshots, enemies will wear armor on their heads. If you play at night, they will equip flashlights. And finally, 30. Do not kill enemies. They will not give S ranks and will increase your demon points (Snake’s horn). I’m 50% sure it slowly decreases your bond with another Base. (Ocelot, Kaz, Quiet, D dog, D horse, D walker, Emmerich, and your Soldiers. 31…. Fultoning high level enemy soldiers will make them your soldiers, making your mother base stronger. 32. Have fun! Tips gave from someone who has completed the game and has over 300+ play hours :)

No.1 Tip: u can control the disc within the console simply press the eject button to get the disc back out.

and for those who dont like the whole infiltration thing, i realized DDog and Quiet made it alot less tense. especially DDog. so play through areas without either of them and then without reflex mode. oh boy, even a heros way or red brass got super intense.

BEST TIP: Permanent stun: Hold a guard hostage and tell them to get down, he will not move until a guard see's him, so remember first knocking him out then placing him in a safe area so no one finds him, wake him up and hold him hostage on the floor.

I love all the cool options in this game. I just found out you can call different strikes with just the binocular by hitting triangle while in binocular mode and choosing your preffered strike type. Where you are looking is where the bladt point will be.

If an enemy is lying down with their hands behind their head, they'll get up if the enemy goes on combat alert. You can also put them in that position by selecting it from the L1 menu during a holdup. You can also interrogate them this way.

when you hold a guard to interrogate him, you can have Quiet take them out :D so freaking cool.

Pro tip here: If you try to distract enemies by using magazines but you get spotted, when the reflex mode is still happening, throw/toss the magazine on the enemies head and you will stun him Another pro tip: if you see two soldiers talking to each other while facing closely to each other, throw a decoy in the middle and the two soldiers will get stunned

These tips were very useful to me! I have been playing the game for 30+ hours and wasn't aware of most of these. Can't wait to try them. Kudos.

Another tips If you see a little shiny dot on the floor, go and grab is, it's a diamond and it gives you GMP.. GMP is essencial, if you have low GMP you can't ask for supplies

Here's something i learned , i know it might be too late now but for those still playing - If you injured a soldier or two and you want to extract them because Fulton doesn't work on injured soldiers , just use D-Horse for carrying one of the Solidiers and carry the other yourself. Now call in for a heli- pick up and whistle D-Horse to follow you , and keep running towards the LZ and there you go , now you can extract both of them. Get away from the chopper to extract them or just hop in if you want to go to the motherbase with them.

I made the mistake of selling my fuel resources towards the beginning of the game when Mother Base went "into the red". Now I'm kicking myself for it because upgrading any unit in Mother Base from a third platform to the fourth platform requires 48,000 in fuel resources. So from experience, hang onto your fuel resources AND upgrade the platform improvement (builders) unit ASAP because the more they're improved, the faster all your resources are processed and ready for use.

"choice of landing zone"...yeah. there's one mission, called something like "backup backdown", where your objective is to deal with a bunch of armored vehicles...starting at the North location makes it MUCH easier, since most of the vehicles are MOVING NORTH! start there and most of them will come RIGHT to you.

Use return to acc after a mission is complete so you don't have to use gmp or wait

Spoilers ahead. I have a theory on the ending of metal gear solid 5. At the end of the game it’s revealed that Venom Snake is not truly Big Boss. This is false. Venom Snake is Big Boss and here’s why. First of all. The man in bandages. He is a hallucination. There is a cassette tape labeled “the effects of Snake’s coma”. In it is mentioned that Snake is still feeling the effects of his 9 year coma just after waking up. So, figuring out what is real in the hospital is tricky. Anything can be hallucinated. So, a good way to tell if something is hallucinated or not is determining if something seen in the hospital appears later in the game. This kind of evidence can be found from anywhere except cassette tapes. Spoiler alert, but Big Boss is capable of hallucinating cassette tapes. BB is also capable of hallucinating entire rooms. That fact, coupled with the fact that he can hallucinate entire conversations, means that the scene at the very end were Ishmael rides off into the sunset and the scene were miller regards Venom Snake as he and the “real” Big Boss are falling into comas can also be a hallucination. This is all supported because at a certain point in the game it is revealed that Paz is still alive. However it turns out that BB hallucinated all the conversations he ends up having with her, AND all the cassette tapes she shares with him and the hospital room they have these conversations in. Things like quite, the man on fire, and the third boy all appear later in the game. So we know that they actually exist because later in the game the effects of Snake’s coma have lessened in some degree. Ishmael is the only thing that doesn’t appear later. But he does appear in mission 46 labeled the “truth”. This is the mission were the twist is revealed. Let me assure you, this mission is anything from the truth. Kojima has been quoted as saying that a lot of things in metal gear are inspired by the book 1984. One of the biggest references in the phantom pain is the year it takes place, 1984. There are cassette tapes that BB receives after the player plays this mission. Many things are “explained” in this mission, but it is totally possible that these were all hallucinated. However these hallucinated cassette tapes are a good way to see what is going on in BB’s head, because BB is subconsciously creating the cassette tapes. One of these cassette tapes is called “doublethink”. In the book 1984 doublethink is a way that the government suppress the truth, enslaving the poor people in London. This cassette tape is where most of the things about Venom are explained. But the nature of doublethink is not knowing what the truth is. Ocelot even says “in this year 2 + 2 = 5”. This cassette tape gets less and less reputable the more you think about it. Even the fact that mission 46 is called the truth makes it more likely to be the lie, because that’s the nature of doublethink. To say one think is the truth when it is a lie. In 1984 the main character’s job is to change old documents so that they seem to predict future events. He fabricates lies from old speeches and reports. This is the case with mission 1 and mission 46. Mission 46 is the change that happens to mission one, reminiscent of the falsified documents in 1984. Not only that, but look at the character of Ishmael. The name is a reference to Moby Dick. In the book, Ishmael is two characters. The protagonist and the narrator. Ishmael can’t be the protagonist because Venom is the protagonist. So naturally he is the narrator. They are the same person, but they can’t exist in the same place, because Ishmael the narrator is older than Ishmael the character because Ishmael the narrator is telling the story about himself. This works with BB and Ishmael. This is supported by another piece of evidence. Ishmael in the game breaks the fourth wall. The nature of a narrator is to break the fourth wall. Narrators always address the audience. Ishmael in the game does this, he address the player when he tells the player to press the stance button. So if Ishmael is the narrator and BB is the protagonist and they therefore can’t exist in the same place then this supports the idea that Ishmael is a hallucination. There are so many inconsistencies created by the end of the game. Like consider this, how to ocelot save the “real” Big Boss? He wipes his memory of Ishmael in one of the “truth” cassette tapes. It seems safe to assume that in-between getting Ishmael a ride and saving Big Boss in the van I don’t think he had time to wipe his memory and record a cassette tape. AND why does Quite want to kill Big Boss? She explains at the end that she wanted revenge for him burning her but he didn’t burn her. Ishmael did. This little detail made sense when Ishmael was just a hallucination. But if he was really the one who burned Quite then why did she want revenge on BB? If Ishmael was really physically there then she would have wanted revenge on Ishmael not BB. AAND in metal gear solid 4 at the end when Big Boss shows up he mentions that it was impossible to completely recreate someone’s personality until Liquid Ocelot. Now let me explain something. Some of you reading this are probably thinking that there has to be a second Big Boss because in MGS4 he doesn’t have the horn, and because he dies in the first metal gear game. Well let me address the simpler topic first. Big Boss in MGS4 was a Frankenstein of Liquid and Solidus. He was “patched up” using their recycled parts. Now, in the first metal gear game when BB “dies” he gets burned by Solid Snake. But people have survived things similar to this in the series. Zadornov brought himself back to life on the thirst for revenge alone. Quite was burned to death AND fell out of a multi-story window and she was brought back to life using parasites. So whether BB gets juiced up on parasites or he lives on sheer will power alone, it’s entirely possible that he lived. Finally, I’m going to talk about the last important piece of evidence. The Man Who Sold the World. The song that is originally by David Bowie, and featured in MGS 5. In the game it’s interpreted as there being two men. In the case of the game that would be Venom and Big Boss as individual people. When really the song is about one person. It’s about the man’s inner struggle with himself. The struggle between who he really is and the person he has sold himself as. “The Man Who Sold the World” is the image of himself that he has “sold” to the world. So these aren’t two individual Big Boss’. They are the two personalities of the one man. Venom Snake is as much the real physical Big Boss as the Big Boss in the hallucination is. And once you understand this it has HUGE ramifications for the rest of the series. It explains Big Boss. He is stuck between who he has become, venom, punished, and who the world sees him as, Big Boss. He is caught between the phantom pain, and the best part of himself. So when Big Boss rides away on the motorcycle it is symbolic of the best part of Snake leaving. No one can escape the phantom pain. Not even Big Boss.

Another tip: sometimes is better change the binoculars zoom using the d pad. This way when you arrives to a FOB you can find more guards, then when you check big settlements full of enemies. Try it

You can interrogate soldiers while they're being held up, (@5:00) whether on the ground or standing. Also, if the guard sees a friend nearby or senses that you're not pointing the gun at him, he will swing around with a knife and ruin your day. Make sure you're pointing your gun at the soldier until they are neutralized.

One tip he is no longer called SNAKE he is Boss now or Big Boss.

Is t true that the game only has 2 locations, Africa and Afghanistan?

Here's one I figured out myself that is very useful. (I haven't watched far enough into the vid to see if he mentioned this method) if you shoot a dude with a tranquilizer but you want to interrogate him, you can just kick him with the cqc button while he's laying there asleep, he will wake up and begin to stand, as he's almost standing you can grab him from behind and do the interrogation, it triggers no alarms unless you're too slow.
