Nadal is smarter in his approaches, he wins more points at net because he knows when to come in. Sock's hand skills however are definitely superior to Nadals. But Nadal is a singles player and Sock is a doubles player, different games. From my experience at least, you don't need to be as smart approaching in doubles as you do in singles, so it makes sense.

His returns are incredible sometimes, he uses a special flick technique with the wrist. Very skilled player!

You should have included the play where in Sock asks Hewitt to challenge a wrong call by line umpire. Hewitt won the point after the challenge and Sock won the crowd

Sock is just not there mentally these days for singles games, he is nowhere near his 2017 form, which is a shame because he is capable of being a consistent top 10 player. He does good in doubles though, and maybe too much time spent there is taking away from his singles play. Other than that, he suffers from the typical modern day male tennis American player issue, good serve and forehand, sub par backhand.

agreed.. plus he doesn’t move well, out of shape, only 1 game plan every time he plays singles, average return of serve, doesn’t all out serve volley on 1st serve thus letting opponents in game... lack of coaching, loves the baseline too much, poor tactics... etc

Also a tendency to overplay his ferocious forehand instead of working on his BACKHAND and improving in the off season like Tilden did.!

It's because americans too often grow up while playing on hardcourts, which doesn't encourage them enough to properly develop their backhand as a weapon. It's been pretty much proven that developing your tennis on clay courts is better for your groundstrokes.
