I absolutely hate when people say African American & not black. Not all black people are from America. As a matter of fact, the vast, VAST majority are not. Fantastically done.
@Amarianee9 жыл бұрын
How do you figure that you have no position to say whether you feel this is racist or not? White, black, orange, purple green whatever, you have just as much right to an opinion as anyone else; and your race should not have to validate it. I'm so tired of people feeling like they should have to apologise for their opinions just because of their race. The opinion itself is what matters, not the race of the person it's coming from. If it's a racist comment coming from a black person, that doesn't make it any less racist than if it were coming from a white person, or any other race for that matter. Your statement was/is not racist and you should not have to feel the need to lessen it, simply because you're white.

"...belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races, and the expression of such prejudice." In other words: You're a racist asshole.

K Hun Blackface is the discrimination of black people by making themselves up in a disrespectful way and acting in a matter that is degrading and derogatory to the african american race. This formed when in the early 1900s, white people would make their whole face black and put on red, clown-like lipstick and do things like barking like a dog to mimic and make fun of black people. This is not blackface.

although i see what your saying. there is a huge problem in the movie industry with this. This isn';t what this video's about, but there are cases when whites are cast for black roles instead of actual black people. While there are tons of qualified black actors to play the parts. Example the nina Simone movie. They black faced a light complexion actress to play a dark complexion singer little did they know the late singer Nina Simone to faught against colorism (kinda like racism ,but focuses on the meaning of complexion within the black community) ex dark women being made to feel ugly by lighter black women or the standard of complexions set in place by society
@usedtiddyjuice7 жыл бұрын
but race isn't a character
@josephinem3787 жыл бұрын
blackface isn't always intentionally racist. It's just the history of it that makes it so awful and the fact that someone's race isn't a costume so when they get to go take it off at the end of the day and be a privileged white person, all of the black people dont. It's just not right, so yeah they could've used a black woman and it would've been so much better
@helleborneb.92637 жыл бұрын
Are people so blinded by hatred, they cannot admire incredible artwork when it is right in front of them? The prosthetics and makeup used in this process was not meant to re-create blackface, but to transform a model into someone else by challenging themselves to new techniques, and using their own understanding of those techniques to create something beautiful. It's called art. As an artist, you would not use a "black" person's skin color for black, and you would not use a "white" person's skin color for white. Yes, oppression happened, but many different people with different skin tones and cultures have been oppressed over the ages. However, you weren't alive during those days, they are not your experiences, and you live in an entirely different world than they did. You cannot preach for equality without giving it, or proper respect, unto others. Cultural appropriation is ludicrous because I guarantee 80% of you have a mixed bloodline of thousands of different peoples and as a human race, the cultures developed around the world should be shared and celebrated by everyone, not just an elite few who deem themselves entitled to it. The Nazi Regime did that and look how the world reacted. Appreciate one another.
@sarah-peterwendorf26497 жыл бұрын
this is art, but all art exists within a social context. we have a history of blackface in this country so this may not be a good idea... and we still have lots of societal problems including racism against black people. look at police brutality and housing discrimination for example. if you want to love everyone with your makeup art, learn how to do makeup for women of color.
@esayem77467 жыл бұрын
You tried to be deep but failed. You clearly don't understand the struggles of black people. Being black is not a fucking costume you can just take off at the end of the day. They have talent, I'll give them that. But this wasn't necessary and you know it. Why couldn't they just use, I don't know, someone who is actually black? Why didn't they just transform her into an old lady, instead of a black old lady. You can't mask ignorance as art.

***** So I am gonna try to shorten this and might lose some of my thoughts on this on the way but I will try to make what I wanted to get to clear. Just gonna start with that I do not believe in God but understand the people that do as it might give more meaning to life but as you said the bible is full of "them" and "we", fighting against others in order to convert them to a new religion and using the words "white" and "black" to describe that process. And even the problem of black and white as a long time use for describing something bad vs something good. But that has to do with day being light because of the sun and night being dark because of no sun. I am not forgetting but pointing out that the continuous use of dividing people in your or mine will not result in anything good. The problem with this is that slave traders started out with claiming innocent people as their property. Resulting in black people having to claim back themselves even though they should have been their own to begin with. Now some people (racist people) see North America as their own telling immigrants to leave and that "they" are not welcome while people that were there to begin with dark skin equally long as the racist people are fighting an internal battle. There are dark skin asian people, dark skin middle eastern people, dark skin Indian people and so on, equally to all the light skin people from different groups and they are also under attack from these racist people. The words them and we just seem to divide people that can support each other and fight against the racism together? (Also just a little funny side note but white people are not really white but rather pinkish looking don't you think?)

This lady wasn't mocking Black people, and her features weren't over exaggerated. I find it pretty cool actually, even if she doesn't look Black. It was fun to watch.
@cultrice68697 жыл бұрын
Racism has literally nothing to do with stereotypes.
@dominique44207 жыл бұрын
Cultrice Co. Actually it does. So I guess if I called Hispanics immigrants , White people racist , that Back are lazy and drink grape cool-aid, All Asians are Chinese, and Natives are alcoholics I wouldn't be racist? Last time I checked those were stereotypes, and very racist. Racist base their beliefs on stereotypes so what are you talking about?
@cultrice68697 жыл бұрын
Racism is believing a race is superior or inferior to another. So no, calling all Hispanics immigrants (which is a horrible example), all white people racist, all blacks lazy and enjoy drinking Kool-Aid, all Asians being of Chinese decent, and all Natives alcoholics (never heard that one before) isn't racist. They're just generalizations based solely upon ignorance.
@cultrice68697 жыл бұрын
I'm black. If somebody asked me, "Do you like fried chicken? I've heard your people do," it wouldn't be racism. He or she simply stereotyped me. You blacks always cry racism when something offends you. Look up the definition of a label before you pin it on something; reading is fundamental.
@dominique44207 жыл бұрын
You also forgot prejudice and discrimination in your definition. And you do recognize that these generalization were made to make people of certain groups feel inferior right? These stereotypes are racially charged. Do I need to break it down for you why these stereotypes are racist and harmful? For a society that wants everyone to coexist with each other and destroy racism, ignorant people like you can't grip the fact that stereotypes aren't helping. If you want to keep defending that making generalizations of a certain groups of people isn't racist keep doing that. You're probably one of those people who uses these stereo types in a day to day basis.

This was an amazing transformation but unfortunately it's not accurate to black features. My main issue here is how old they made that woman look. Black women don't age in the same way as other women. A 70 year old black woman would have the same age lines as a 40 or 50 year old white woman. By guessing, I'd have to say this "black woman" was 199 years old when it's obvious the artists were shooting for 70-80ish. It's like they age progressed a white woman, painted her skin brown, plastered on a fake nose and called it a day. If that's the case, that lack of care for their subject is offensive. They should've researched elderly black women better. Otherwise this could be seen as a mockery.
@BrownEyedPrincess110 жыл бұрын
As a black woman this is the stupidest comment I've read in quite some time. How on earth did they make her look 199? She looked like many black women I know in the 70 age range. As a matter of fact she looked a lot like CCH Pounder with white hair only aged maybe 10 or 15 years. I read your comment before I watched the video so I expected something overly dramatic and what I saw seemed pretty accurate to me.
@MrSweetnibblets10 жыл бұрын
angelic9889 You know what's mockery, your idiotic profile picture of a distorted black women with a huge nose. Now THAT'S mockery you idiot. You can't seriously be generalizing how a WHOLE EFFIN RACE ages right? I don't think anyone can be that ignorant and imbecilic. Aging doesn't have to do with a race but rather, a whole slew of different factors including diet, sun exposure, genetics, bone structure etc. In fact, this woman looks like every other old black women I have seen. Stop generalizing.

Each individual ages differently. Even you may age slowly or faster than other people based on your daily lifestyle and the genes.

Aaaaaand my point has been proven. I pointed out on the black to white transformation that no one found it racist, and I had many negative (and quite rude) responses towards me that I'm the one misinformed about the concept. Obviously however, there's controversy going on with this video, so it shows that people are quite hyprocritical.

no one should be dressing up as another race. people's races are not costumes. I see comments saying "this is art!" art can be racist. this is racist art/blackface and it's hateful even if it didnt have bad "intent". you can hurt others even if u did not "intend" to. Dressing up as another race is wrong because how can any of us say race is a dress up game?? If she was transformed into like an older version of herself, that would be fine because we can all potentially become old ! If you are hung up on how "this isnt racist!" PLEASE take a moment to consider how it is. Learn and grow so that the next generation wont make mistakes like these please. We should never dress up as black people again. we did it for far too long. it is disrespectful and It's so messed up. think about this please.
@anonamous69685 жыл бұрын
You're overcompensating. Too sensitive. This is done with respect. People like you make too much out of things. Too afraid of offending. If someone is that delicate then they are a little too fragile. Just ask all the other black people on here that are ok with it. Black strong and secure people appreciate the talent needed to do this.

@DigitalAndInnovation3 жыл бұрын
Interesting point- but it is not really the way it tends to work. The point that it is just acting is very valid and makes a ton of sense... but if you could hire a black actor... there are plenty that get shut out of Shakesperian and such roles... why bother with the makeup

they might just want to show that they can make you into anything they want and why is it bad to make her into an old person? even if it's black? if they turned her into a white old person you wouldn't care but then she became a black old person you react? it's not bad nor is it good. it's not racist nor is it not (i don't mean you are racist but alot of people think like that). just cause they picked something that was older then her and changed her skin it's bad? why?
