Very cool video Dan. Each car has some unique features that I either like or dislike. Never really noticed them because I’ve never seen them side by side. When the opportunity arises do more videos like this.

The Speciale has the same size brake rotors. If you remove the internal drum brake assembly of the rear brake rotors on the regular 458, the rotors interchange. They are essentially the same brakes as are found on the 488 and F8. Calipers are also the same between the Speciale, 488, F8, TdF and 812. I learned all of this when I bought Surface Transforms rotors for my 488 and Pista. The Pista does have a different front rotor because it is 38 mm wide, but a regular 36 wide rotor and 38 mm wide rotor actually interchange between all the above cars.

This like the Ginger or Mary Ann question. Neither one is getting kicked out of the garage. Carbon fiber everywhere on both. But the Speciale is more refined and "grown up" Both are awesome with subtle differences. Great video.

The Speciale CF seats are the same CF seats as was later used in the 488 and F8. Those paddles looks to be the factory paddles which are also found in the Pista.

@@normalguysupercar The long paddles are standard on all VS cars these days. You can also order them as an option. Got them in my F8. I feel like once you get used to them, you can’t really go back to the short paddles. They are so much nicer to use.

The Speciale seems to have more in common with the Scud than the Italia. There is similar trim on the Scud as the Speciale. And of course the different engine/tranny spec in the Speciale and Scud, than the normal versions of each. I'd be interested in a comparison between a Scud and Speciale...

Sort-of. The rear is a problem as it's a different exhaust.

A 458 Spider with a few mods (larger PS4S tires, novitec springs, RSC1 brake pads) is more polyvalent, as fun and a lot cheaper 😎

It would be relatively easy to replicate the 458 speciale from the 458 Italia, I could do it. Although I really like the standard 458 Italia.

The problem ist just that the Speciale is too expensive to drive it and to have fun with it. The difference in "fun factor" to the Italia isn´t that big and only really noticible on a race track. You could have mention that the Speciale has the same brakes like the La Ferrari. It is much more fun driving the Italia instead of keeping the Speciale in the garage, life is too shot for not having fun. On a side note, "not driving your car to keep mileage low for resale, is like not banging your girlfriend to keep her tight for the next guy".

The "fun factor" in the Speciale is higher, whenever there are curves, as it doesn't have "safety understeer" built into it like an Italia does. It rotates like a dream.

The Speciale is worth every penny; very expensive but still under valued. Think about how many resto-mod 911s from Singer and Gunther Werks that are selling for way more money than this incredible machine. The Speciale will blow them all away; better performing, better sounding, better looking, lower production numbers, etc. How many F1 championships has Porsche won?? In 20 years we will have companies chopping up normal 458s turning them into "Speciale tribute cars" selling for over $3mm...

One common difference is that speciales interiors are usually in perfect condition. While Italia's look old and worn. If you get a perfect condition Italia with carbon everything and carbon race seats, I think it holds up well against the speciales interior.

love the speciale. I've replaced the exhaust to capristo and brakes to girodisc steel ones. ceramics didn't work, impossible to warmup them on the streets.

Those wheels on the 458 Italia are actually from the 16M not the 458! Regarding the engine rpm limit, in fact the Speciale engine can spin above 10000rpm, but it was limited by emissions at the time, it was not approved so Ferrari limited the engine speed cut. Love both cars, but the Speciale is a dream! Good content

Those are the correct wheels on the 458, not sure what you’re referring to? The Speciale engine may be capable of spinning to 10k but I doubt it would be effective at that RPM considering that useful power rapidly trails off after 8,000RPM

Hope that's true...would make the 458 elevate too. Delta from Italia to speciale isn't as wide as 488 to pista

@@dannyarooster The delta between the Italia and Speciale will more than likely widen significantly in the coming years. Look at older cars like the 360 and 360CS or F430 and 430 Scud. At the end of the day sooooo many Italia's has been produced compared to Speciale's, and that usually affects such things. As for 2M in 15 years? Perhaps, but that has to be measured against inflation and so on. Will 2M be a lot if the future equivalent to an F8 or 296 is close to or over 1M? It's like an F40. It's worth 8-10 times it's MSRP, but it's also 36 years old. In 1987 349k was a lot of money. Speculation is hard with mass produced exotics, and there are many owners out there with big dreams of massive fortunes. I doubt it will change much though. By that I mean that for a car to really become something to invest in, it has to be very rare and sought after. Something like a TdF, Comp, GTO, or 599 SA might become one of those cars, but reality is that few things are sure-fire investments, unless you talk halo cars or significant historic cars.
