$250 Optiplex Gaming PC in 2022 | Is It Still Possible?

Күн бұрынThe classic Optiplex is a great way to start out with PC gaming and not breaking the bank. If you want a 1080p 60fps machine then these builds are perfect for that, although not as aesthetically pleasing as a traditonal gaming PC's. I built one around a year ago in the beginning of 2021 and was curious with the continued price hikes, is it still possible to do it in 2022? I was aiming for a GPU around the GTX 960/970/1060 on the NVIDIA side and anything around an RX570 or 580 on the AMD side. It all depends on the prices you can find locally around you and really just purchase the one that makes the most sense for your budget.

My Optiplex 3010, i5 CPU 3470 660Ti 2GB ram, 16GB Ram, Bluray, 2 X 250GB SSD's, Backup 2TB, 600 watt PS etc Rocks!!!.. It plays all the games I throw at it.. My set up cost me only $300 !!! I recommend this setup!! its a sleeper Gamming PC.. It looks clean and slick.. No fancy lights or water cooled .. Plane and simple..

While looking for a budget pc, I stumbled upon this video. I think this idea is great. A lot of people don't want their old optiplex's anymore so they're pretty cheap. Great video!

Thanks for this. I'm making a budget build for my brother in law. I landed an optiplex with an i5. Only 8 gigs of ram. But I'm going to throw my 1 TB HDD from my old laptop into it. I'm going to check local recycling places as you mentioned for the PSU and GPU. If I really struggle to get a GPU for a decent price I'll throw my Ryzen 5600G in there and just upgrade my processor to a 5800x or something. (My prebuild game with a RTX 3060 and a 5600G. I know it's weird)

I don't think I've ever seen a Dell with an AMD processor, but good luck! I bought a refurbished HP with a r3 3200g. I upgraded the psu to 500w and installed a 1650 low profile card. I upgraded the storage to 1tb nvme too.

Just got one of these free from work, my buddy is giving me a old GTX980, and I have 16gb of corsair dominator laying around. Ordered a case and psu, going to try and keep this build under $150.

In the UK I've turned x3 Optiplex into competent 1080p gaming rigs for myself and my kids, got them in new cases with RGB , it took time to do cost effectively but wow everyone happy and have Xbox's now gathering dust, do you have any ideas on how to get rid of the F1 start-up notifications for rear fan and IO panel just be nice to not have to have that on start-up ?

Currently built 1 for around $200 great parts that i got a steal for. “OptiFlex” 3020 Cpu i7 4790 Gpu Saphire Pulse RX580 8GB -16gb corsair ddr3 1600. -430 watt Thermal take PSU. -256 gb ssd -1tb hdd

£250 in 2023 Optiplex 3020 with Haswell i5. 8gb ram, 120gb SSD, 1TB Hdd, Corsair 550w PSU, GTX 1070. Now testing it, PSU is brand new as it's the worst component to skimp out on if it goes wrong. The 8gb GTX 1070 was £116 on ebay delivered in Nov 2022. SSD was £11 brand new on sale. Generally holds 60fps at 1080p on max settings playing War Thunder, testing Fortnite next. CPU and GPU temps are low after I cleaned out the case and changed the thermal paste on CPU with Thermal Grizzly.

You should try 16gb ram and Haswell i7, it would be far better in your case

@@vincenthufenus5481 - Haswell i7 is too expensive to justify any performance gain. I'm building an i5 Kaby or i3 Coffee Lake SFF office based rig next. Will be more work and cost a bit more to get right but the performance boost will be worth it. I already own 4 or 5 i7's as I was an overclocker, for gaming the fake cores splitting the cache is not good so I turn HT off. The extra cache from the i7 doesn't justify the expense at the budget level. When I do some upgrades on the Haswell it will have more memory and i5 4690K which I can buy for 21.95 delivered from CEX with a years warranty to keep it cheap. I might delid, lap and change the cooler if I have to to maintain max boost. 4790K is over £90 which is 50% more than the superior 7700K.

Got my Optiplex 790 from a guy on craigslist (entire 1st level of his house is refurbished computers) for $40. Over the years I've upgraded it and I wanna say I've spent around $360 on upgrades. i7-2600 16 GB DDR3 1 TB SSD 400 Watt PSU 1050 Ti 4GB Does everything I need :)

I have a dell cheapy gaming PC: Core i7 3770 w/ 6500xt. Not glorious but was only $400 after all upgrades. Playing BG3 at 1080p at ultra (a few things off for optimization) and is doing excellent on my SSD. Going to get a Optiplex 7040 with the i7 8700 and slap in a radeon 7600 to get 50-100% more frames for under $500! Now my son and I can game for under 1k!

Is this using the Deity V2!?! I want to make some videos, but I’m that audio guy and so far I’m stuck between my PreSonus PD70 and Elgato Wave 3 😶🌫️😶🌫️😵💫 I have my deity v2 in a closet along with more mics like the Q2U and yet no videos hehehehe I love tech. Also optiplex are great right now, I’ve seen them going for around 75-125$

Its actually the Diety V-Mic D3 Pro! I just started using it and I think it sounds pretty damn good in this echoey laundry room lol Im definitely thinking about making a few more of these optiplex builds too, I have a few towers listed around me at that same price point roughly so might go and snag them for future builds!

I placed a bid on an optiplex 7050 on eBay that was at 20$ and it has a i7 7700 is there any issues with getting a little newer system like that over the older ones

People stop changing the psu of that optiplex , it’s 290-320W, capable of firing up up to 120W gpu easily.
