Kazakhstan's latest Grandmaster, 23-year-old Alisher Suleymenov (2515) has produced the biggest upset of #QatarMasters2023, maybe even the whole year so far.
Alisher played a fantastic game with the White pieces to take down World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen!

@TheGrandmasterMan Thank you for saying this! Yes, there is a 250+ rating point gap, but the guy playing the white pieces still has the letters GM before his name for a reason. Chess Don't Lie. If you play sub optimal moves, even if you're a World Champion, you can lose. It speaks to Carlsen's greatness that most of the time he can outplay world class GMs from dead even positions. Congratulations to GM Alisher Suleymenov on a well played game! 👍

Problems for Magnus starting at 7:22, should have moved the other knight to g6. Now white has a crushing attack after putting his knight on g5 and then the brilliant pawn push to e5.

I certainly don't think Suleymenov cheated, Magnus' game was just off and kind of led white into the correct direction at the wrong time. But if someone was worried about my watch in a chess match, id take my watch off just to make everyone feel better. Why not?

The biggest mistake of Magnus was several weeks before. He should have agreed to play tournaments only with conditions securing game without any gadget on players and in the playing hall. For this tournament anti-chrating measures on the scale 1 to 10 were -3. Listen for example what is GM Shimanov sayin on Levitov chess (in Russian) about anti-cheating measures in this tournament.

Why is it an issue for one opponent to wear a watch but the other is able to leave the table over and over? Also do they not have officials that check for these things prior to competition so it doesn’t become an avoidable issue after the fact? It’s not like the watch was hidden. I don’t watch chess often but I find that odd
