Spending some time with my family in Cape Coast Ghana, I came across an amazing fishing village through the windows called Ekon so I decided to check it out. So in this video, I take you with me to explore this rustic fishing village where I speak to some of the locals to find out how it feels to grow up and live in this amazing community. I hope you enjoy it....My name is Mickey...Keep Watching!!!

I just love when u are able to bring the kids along. Most kids in ghana never get this opportunity to know their own town, let alone parts of the country.

Very true. Their grandma said the same. I pray and hope that broadens their way of thinking.

I have witnessed the appropriate technology they use to push the canoes and it's quite fascinating.looks like a busy place

It is a busy place. If it takes this much work to roll the boat down into the water, then I can't imagine how much work it will be to bring it back to shore.

The interviews are brilliant. I like the fact you conducted it in Twi, so they don't feel inhibited when expressing themselves. Village life doesn't look easy, I can see why people leave to gain a trade or education and then return. Thank you for sharing.

Hmm village life isn't easy if you don't have the funds. But so cozy if money isn't a problem. Imagine having the beach 24/7. Maybe I'm excited cos I'm from Kumasi lol. Thanks for your feedback.

Hey bro, share the fish wai, hahaha. Aaah, how i miss ghana oooo. Hm. I went to secondary school in saltpond and Cape coast, so i know some of those villages. That part of ghana is so hilly, and i dont miss those hills at all. Lol

Yeah very hilly but I love it. I did a drive through Saltpond (video will be up soon). I found the cathedral and architecture very interesting that I want to go back to explore more later.

@MickeyAgyei Yes, saltpond has amazing architecture. It's just a shame that those towns along the line never got their historical due, and appreciation..(.I guess like most parts of the nation)while they have carried the reputation of housing our best and competitive secondary schools,(a bit partial here, Mfantsiman and Wesley girls raised me for 7yrs, hills and all..lol). Hopefully, as our villages begin to re-emerge, thru diasporan exodus, Cape Coast which was Gold Coast/Ghana's first capital city., and Saltpond where our first political party(UGCC) was founded and financed by our wealthy businessmen like(Paa Grant, saltpond). At the same time, praying that we don't commercialize those villages too much that, they lose their essence and authenticity of prestene coastal village life. We'll see. Thanks bro, u did well. Safe travels.

@@rainbow3649 Funny you mentioned commercialization. I was thinking...what a wonderful gift nature has given to these locals. And just wished someone with a big wallet doesn't come along to turn it into a place for the "privileged" few. Thanks 🙏🏾

@MickeyAgyei definitely! Sadly, it's already started happening. We are slowly losing our small towns and villages, even the farmlands have been destroyed by galamsey and "developers!" Do we need to develop every land in Ghana? Really? All the trees are gone, beautiful vegetation disappearing! Lack of education has caused most of all this. We want to be westerners so badly, well. My very brilliant dad who was one of the 'greatest generation' (that's what I call the generation that sacrificed their lives to gain our independence), warned us about this very day that, we should "be ware of excessive modernization, because all this modernization that we blindly want so badly, comes with loss of freedom!" Our teenage minds at that time, didn't understand what he was warning, oooo, but since with age come wisdom, now we definitely UNDERSTAND. brace themselves for all the overwhelming burdens, that comes with it! illnesses, mental health issues, isolation, lack of human connection, depression, Uuuuu I could cry! Lack of knowledge my people perish! U would expect the leaders to know better, but no. Oh well, I guess that train has already left the station! Thanks for engaging, Mickey. God bless

The story of fishing communities is that the economy is based on fishing seasonality. So many people are seasonally unemployed
