Summer is finally here and its time to get out and explore. If you are new to the off road life then these 5 trails are the perfect trails for you. This is a list of the top 5 easiest trails in northern California. All of these trails are around 100 miles from Sacramento, and are great for a day trip to the mountains to enjoy some fresh air and amazing views.

Famous last words. Most of these look lifted with good tires and sway bar disconnects. Just a guess.

It’s a pretty fun trail with a lot of history. There is an old cemetery and a few buildings to check out in Howland Flat. It’s on your way out from Poker Flat. The fire watch is open during the fire season and visitors are welcome.

There is a grave in the very back with a US flag on it. The tombstone says that he served in WWI and WWII.

Im glad you found it helpful. How much wheeling experience do you have? I would recommend 33s at a minimum for Sourgrass and Signal Peak, and to go out with somebody.

You shouldn’t have any issues with any of these trails then. Sourgrass and Signal Peak will be the most difficult trails on the list, but they are absolutely doable.

Thanks for the videos you post. Planning on a trip up to gold lake and was wondering if a stock Jeep would be able to get to Gold Lake via Sierra City. Not on the gold lake highway

If you are only planning on making it to the camping area then I would say that a stock Jeep would absolutely be fine. If you are planning on running the loop trail while you are out there then I would not suggest running it in a stock Jeep. A 2 door Rubicon with some experience might be fine, but the drop down into Snake Lake is steep and rocky.

Im sure they are out there. I have an app called AllTrails, and I think that if you stick to things that they label as Easy then you shouldn't have any issues. Some of those are little more than a scenic dirt road.

New subscriber, Own a new Rubicon also. Found this channel to be exactly what I was looking for to slowly bring the wife around for more pricey Jeep goodies. And I use the ... onX off-road app Seems to work pretty good. Look forward to more trail ride video and a recover gear equipment video.

Hi, I am getting a new ram quad cab standard bed 4x4 with the off-road package. Are those trails look a bit much for that or am I OK? The ground clearance isn't really that great. Thanks and like your video.

I would say to start off at something like Prairie City to get a feel for your Truck. Then maybe try the Poker Flat trail. Those are the 2 easiest places to start.

The vehicles in this video are fairly built, but stock Jeeps are more than capable of completing all of these trails without issue

I moved out of the area about 1.5 years ago. There are likely some active groups still, but I’m not sure what they are. Facebook might have some that are more active

I think an F-150 would be fine on most of the trails stock, as long as its a 4x4. The only trails that I would say require a lift and bigger tires are Sourgrass and Signal Peak.

@@NotICON i just picked up a 2021 tacoma last week, 3rd 4x4 off road... it looks like i'll need some mods to do these trails, along with some experience, or at least an experienced buddy (like you said)... especially for more challenging parts... nice video. thanks for posting.

@@jacobchhom6643 I think the only trails that would give you a problem, would be Sourgrass and Signal Peak. Prairie City would give you a good idea of what your Tacoma is capable of stock. Hopeully I will see you out on some of the trails here soon.

I’m most familiar with Jeeps, but any stock vehicle with similar clearance and capability to a Jeep would likely do just fine

Thanks for the video...just got 2020 TRD OFF 4runner. I will be running 265/70/17 ATW Wildpeaks and stock suspension. Hopefully this is good enough.

Thank you for watching. Keep in mind that the trails in this video get progressively harder, and these are just my opinion. I know that the TRD is a capable rig off the lot. Sougrass and Signal Peak are both doable on 33s, but they are going to be a little more challenging. Maybe I will see you out on one of these trails.

I always air down to about 12psi. It helps with traction and makes the ride a little smoother as well.

I’m not really sure how capable the outback is, but I know a stock Jeep XJ can do the Poker Flat trail. If you are going to be able to do one, then I would say start there, but don’t go by yourself.

Signal Peak will be challenging, but you should be able to do all of these trails.

You are more than capable of doing all the trails on this list. You’re current set up is more than capable of a lot of the trails in the area.

I'm looking for a trail that my stock 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 can handle. I just want to get the family out of the house and it the outdoors. I believe even most of these would be too much for my stock truck. Do you have any recommendations that would be ok for a stock truck?

I think Saddle back mountain to Poker Flat would be your best bet. It’s not really all that difficult. The creek crossing is going to be the most difficult part.

I would start at Prairie city and see what it’s capable of. I wouldn’t take it on any of the other trails before that. Maybe Saddleback to the fire lookout but I wouldn’t go further than that

How would a 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee do with out lift ?

I think it depends on the GC model and year. I would suggest starting off at Prairie City to get comfortable with your Jeep. After that I would go with a couple people to Poker Flat, we had a stock Trail Hawk GC make it through without any issues. Ive taken 2 WJs (1998-2004) with a slight lift and 33" tires through Sourgrass and Signal Peak without any issues.

I think all would be good for you. Signal Peak will be the most difficult though, and there are some really tight squeezes and turns through trees when you get closer to the top. That will probably be your biggest issue

Saddleback/Poker flat will have one tight spot, but if you are careful you should make it. Sourgrass won’t have any issues with a full size. Signal Peak is a little narrower and will likely give you issues in a few spots since there are some tight areas and sharp turns.

So I'm new to off road trails and I have a 95 GMC 4x4 with a 7 inch lift with 3 inch body lift on 35s is that too big for off road trails or should it be good

If you are new I would suggest an OHV park in the local area. These are typically the safest places to learn some basics. Hollister Hills SVRA is a fairly easy area to learn some stuff. I was just there and would say that the obstacle course and blue trails would be a good starting point for you.

No Problem. If you can find a local off road group or club that would be another place to start. Most of the clubs have a lot of experience off road, as well as performing maintenance on vehicles. From my experience they will generally bend over backwards to help you out. Great job on the summery of the easier trails. Good to have you back after the winter. Question? You have an annual Fathers Day event teaching toxic masculinity skills in a camping weekend. I don't have any axes or knives to throw but I can come armed. 22 LR, 9mm and 12ga. Looking for a 3 generation opportunity. I'm 67 with a 42 yr old son and a 7 yr old grandson. My son is on disability after back surgery and is a stay at home Dad. Home schooling his 2 little ones. Actually a great opportunity to impact their lives. Anyway, forgive me for inviting myself to the event. If we could come I would have to clear it with the Daughter in law...she's a little protective and I get it. You have to watch out for your chicks... But you also have to know when to let them fly.........

Maybe you can talk them into Gold Lake 4x4 campground. 15 spots, first come first serve and I think you have to pack out your solids. We're hoping to take the kayaks you there in August. Paddling under the stars without the light pollution.

Gold lake is an awesome area, and the Snake Lake Loop is a really nice trail. That is one that I would be willing to go do again, and actually camp out up there this time.

Yes there are places that can be used as a staging area. There is a main parking lot at the trailhead, then there is a parking area on the opposite side of the bridge that can be used as a staging area.

I don't think any of the vehicles are stock. They all look heavily modified to me.

You're correct, they are modified. However, that doesn't mean that a stock Jeep couldn't make it through these trails. I took a stock Rubicon through Strawberry pass, and there are sections on that trail that are harder than any of the trails listed in this video.
