RIP Siani Lee ... I remember she reported from outside the building at Monument with two wrapped SEPTA buses that night of the switch. Gone way too soon.

Within a few years, Siani would be a CBS employee again by virtue of her move to KYW 3. Gone way too soon, RIP Siani.

One thing you guys at NBC 10 got wrong: The last episode of SNL aired on KYW right before the switch, as they were still NBC and you were still CBS up to that very moment.

I just started my First Day in Kindergarten at Avondale Elementary School 5/6 years old in 1995, while Amarah Tenoh, and Michelle Kaioh (Sailor Uranus, and Sailor Neptune) were 12th Grade Seniors in High School in Tokyo, Japan.

i remember when this happened. i was a 13 yr old living in West Philly at the time and was excited for the change. when visiting relatives in northern New Jersey, i asked if their channels were switching as well. they were not. that made me feel that the Philly channel change was even more special.

And to think this could have all been even more chaotic. Not sure if anyone remembers, but there was talk CBS might have ended up selling 10 to New World, which was partially owned by Fox. That would have meant Fox 10, not NBC 10; and it would have left NBC out in the wilderness, otherwise known as the UHF band, possibly even having to start a news operation from scratch. On a side note: because they were owned by Paramount at the time, channel 29 would have ended up becoming the UPN affiliate, not channel 57. But that's neither here, nor there.

You're actually not lying. CBS thankfully had the good sense to go to NBC and work something out since Group W (before the merger) were highly pissed off at losing ABC at their Baltmore station WJZ, and ordered their non-CBS stations to do so once they cut a deal.

Well it was Fox changed the broadcast game as a result of the NFL NFC deal even tho WTXF almost went to UPN

From a 1994 article on the switch.... NBC made the deal because it needed an affiliate in Philadelphia, the nation's fourth largest market (Miami-Fort Lauderdale ranks 16th). CBS had _two_ Philadelphia stations - WCAU, which it owns, and KYW, because of a deal it made to transform all stations owned by Group W into CBS affiliates. NBC made a bid to buy WCAU. CBS suggested that in lieu of all cash, the antenna positions in Miami-Fort Lauderdale be part of the deal. The horse-trading expanded to include NBC stations in Denver and Salt Lake City and Group W.

The CBS-Group W deal transformed a few non-CBS stations into CBS stations: KUTV 2 in Salt Lake City (NBC) KCNC-TV 4 in Denver (NBC) KYW-TV 3 in Philadelphia (NBC) WBZ-TV 4 in Boston (NBC) WJZ-TV 13 in Baltimore (ABC)

It was at around this time that in Green Bay, Wisconsin, WLUK-TV 11 would switch from NBC to Fox and WGBA-TV 26 would switch from Fox to NBC...

One Year Later in Birmingham, Alabama when I was in First Grade at a Local Elementary School Avondale. WBRC Channel 6 switch from ABC to FOX, while their former ABC affiliate when to a NEW STATION called "Alabama's ABC 33/40" combing two stations from Tuscaloosa, and Anniston/Gadsden area WCFT-TV Channel 33, and WJSU-TV Channel 40.

When WPVI celebrated its 50th anniversary I didn’t know the Steve Levy also was with them before he was with WCAU same with Mike Strug. I remember the old studio on City Avenue I got to go to the 10! show there with Bill Henley and Luann Khan as well as Jillian Melee before she was at Comcast Sportsnet, Fox News, and now WPVI. I also got to meet Via 20 years at a event for the Best Buddies as well.

That was September 10th, 1995 when the big switch happens in the Philadelphia area. That's one day after the original PlayStation debuted on September 9th, 1995.

Because of Fox outbidded CBS for the NFL’s NFC package and they sign a deal with New World Communications later on causing E.W. Scripps and Westinghouse signing deals with ABC and CBS respectively creating a massive sales and swaps along with the WB and UPN launching during the middle of the switches.
