In 2020 the government instituted the Payroll Protection Program, fondly known as #ppp . At the same time there was another program initiated call the Employment Retention Credit #ERC Initially the deal was that if you applied for PPP you could not apply for the ERC.
Almost every small business applied for the PPP because it was easy to do as the banks administered it for you. Then the pandemic got worse and in early 2021 the law changed so that even if you received PPP you could now ALSO get the ERC.
Unfortunately the ERC Program is a 170 page document and is not administered by the banks and is so complicated that it is almost impossible to apply to by yourself. You need the assistance of an expert. However it's worth the hassle because you can receive up to $26,000 per employee.
To be eligible you need to have had between 5-500 employees on W2 payroll in either 2020, 2021 or both. I'm getting all my companies to apply because this is the most non-dilutive, lowest cost of capital we can get right now. It's not a loan it's a one time cash grant. To make this easy for everyone I've set up the wondertrust.com where you can book an appointment with an expert and find out if you are eligible. If you are we will process your application for you and track its journey through the IRS. It takes about 4 months but well worth the the wait. I'm on a mission to tell every business in America about this ERC program and get them to apply before it runs out in 25 months. If you are eligible what are you waiting for?!

The grant money is actually the money each business paid out in payroll taxes per employee for 2020 and 2021. Plus any healthcare expenses, and family leave benefits paid out etc. Businesses are refunded what they paid into the system. This is their way of saying thank you for keeping the economy going. If you do not claim your refund then the money goes back to the government to spend as they please.

Not every company gets the full amount it’s based on the amount of quarters they can qualify for. Remember it’s up to 26,000

If you received PPP funding then you cannot double dip and count that money again with the ERC. So the Average is $10K to 14K per W2 Employee plus benefit expenses.

They claim up to 26K. Most businesses get 10K because they had received PPP funds and you can't claim the money they gave you. The money comes from the money companies paid out in payroll taxes and other benefits to their employees. There is no extra government money being handed out. It is the money that business paid in that they are giving back.
