Yeah, skidplates should be the first mod if you’re going to do trails. I’ve had the primitive racing skidplates for 4 years and they are still going strong after MANY hits haha

FR 18 is no joke. I’ve driven it many times. The standing water always has a solid bottom with many hidden rocks. The instinct is to go a bit faster through holes like that as not to get stuck but in higher elevations (especially on FR 18) the bottom is usually rocky and hard instead of soft and muddy. I’ve seen people make the same mistake in many of the holes in Union Springs Rd in Virginia as well. “Don’t know until you go.” Speaking of: I’ll be there this weekend 4wding and mtbing if you are bored.

You may be referring to my wilderness with the warn bumper. One side did get cut wrong but I’ll get that fixed. So far my LP stuff has been amazing. Little bit of bending but no cranks or breaks.

So I've had a Primitive Racing engine only skid plate for several years and bumped it a few times and it was straightened a few times. It's mostly good, but it's shorter up front than Rallitek (forgot to mention my car is Outback 2.5 2015), and I had a plastic gap cover between the plate and the bumper....So years gone by and trails were driven, my Primitive Racing plate is bent a little bit on the right side, so when the temperature outside drops below 50 degrees (I think the plate and bolts probably shrink and bring it closer to the engine), it begins to loudly rattle against the exhaust manifold. I've decided to retire it and bought the Rallitek combined setup (engine and transmission covers), they look good, installation is very easy (but 2 of their transmission plate bolts didn't match the nuts in my frame, so I had to find them online and order separately). But Rallitek plates are definitely thiner, although wider and cover more spaces under your car. When everything set and tight, if I just knock on the plates with my palm, it rings and flexes (and may clunk against your car guts above it) a little. So I'm sure Rallitek one will be weaker than Primitive one, you may have to remove it and hammer it back to flat more often - or just be more careful.

Thanks for your vids. Not sure if you’ve seen/heard anything about ADF Crew’s skid plate coverage. They say theirs doesn’t hang low.

I recently got a transmission skid plate from Primitive Racing and have had zero issues with it. I think I am going to go with the Primitive front skid too. I'm going to look into whether it hangs down like the LP Adventure one, hadn't taken that into consideration!

I think you you got lucky that your car was fixable at a reasonable price. In October 2023 my significant other drove over a large rock with our 2017 Audi Q5, along a blacktop roadway. The Audi's damage consisted of : Destroyed Steering Rack, Destroyed Engine Cradle and 1 complete exhaust system. Insurance company totalled the Audi. My replacement is a 2024 Forester Touring, which I have had a 3/16" Primitive Racing Front Skid plate with lip mounted. My intention is to add Primitive Racing Transmission and Rear differential Skid plates. Too complete the underside armorment.

Ralliteks are way too thin imo. I bent the engine skid immediately on my crosstrek. I ran primitive for awhile it’s decent my main gripe with it is how close it ran to the exhaust, when it did bend it would rattle on the exhaust, I had to pull it off and Bend it back a few times. I now run ASFIR which is the best imo, better approach angle, thick as hell (1/4”). Not sure if they make one for the obw yet.

Note to self….replacing the skid plate is fine, but even better get winch and carry traction boards or take a buddy along….then you wont go too fast where it is a bad idea. :)

Did you post photos of the damage anywhere? I'd like to see what area of your car took so much damage, and maybe try to avoid skidplates from any brand that uses the same mounting point. Was it the front or mid plate?

Skid plates are only as good as the mounting points… And my understanding is even when talking with LP Adventures customer service was the mounting points are not great on the OBW.

I’ve been looking at the LP adventure skid plates and don’t really like that they hang down like that. You were going too fast to be honest though.

Soooo TWO video's now saying you ripped off your LP Aventure skid plate, yet NO Pics of the skid plate or which bolt was broken? Sounds like LP Aventure skid plate saved your oil pan & possibly a new engine 🤔? Do other brands use same places to bolt to or do they use different places to bolt to the frame?

Primitive plates are the way to go! You can get all 3 plates from them.

compare Ralitek to PrimitiveRacing, im curious which one to get.

No skidplates on my stock 12 impreza 2.0 but i don't look at the underside it still drives 😂

Anyone know of steel skid plates besides the OEM ones? Of the aluminum ones out there, I would go with Rival or ADF. They both keep the smaller steel plates in the CVT area and have no welds to break from what I've seen.

LP are assholes. I’ve had 2 bad experiences with them. Ralliteksold a few years back and their stuff is ok but overpriced. Hit up Primitive Racing. They have full skids and are tried and true. I’ve hammered their stuff and never had an issue.
