Anything you do with sub gauge is interesting. You keep them coming I will keep watching.

Thanks for the video. Here are a couple of things that "may" help with reloading this hull. I generally run my 12,16, and 20 through my various 9000g's and Sizemaster presses with the collet sizer. I have found for me that the standard sizer that's found on the Junior seems to work better for my 28 and .410 with all hulls but especially the straight wall hulls from Federal and European manufacturers. I wish this wasn't the case because by going this route I've added a step in the process. The other thing that might help with the Federal paper base hull in particular is that the Lyman #4 manual has a fair amount of data for that hull as well as others. Hope this helps.

Interesting. I've got a bunch of top gun hulls that I also thought were plastic base. I'll have to cut one open. Thanks for your content man. For us few that are trying to reload this small gauge you are the best content I've found!

I did the same thing as you and took apart a top gun and noticed the shot was not round and mixed sizes. I grew up shooting federal because they used to be the best bang for your buck, before Vista acquired them. Anyways I loaded up some factory duplicates with Lil Gun and Ched primer and sent them off for testing. My load was about a grain too hot. Then Graf and Sons made me buy 5000 PC28 wads, so I swapped out the SG28II for those and found a fantastic patterning load with my IM. The PC28 wads are a bit taller and at $0.03/wad I am happy I have a very nice use for the top gun hulls now. Going to send off an HV28 7/8 oz load one of these days for my golden pheasant replacement load. Especially since Fio didn't make any this last season. PS I can send you my tested load if you want to use that to make a load for yourself.

Great info. Just started shooting 28 guage. I have reloaded a lot of 12 and 20g. Shooting meet shoots out to 120 yards. One of the best loads for everything was using federal top gun. Using unique # 7 1/2 magnum. Ran it up to 25.2 grains, a bit too much and backed it down a little, and never blew out the pattern using all the way up to extra full. I tried loading #4,6, and reclaim as a mixture, with various wads, hulls, and powder and it blew out the patterns every time. I have found with sub guages new magnum shot patterns the best. For stout loads I have found that H-s6, red dot, green dot, unique, 572 for 12 and some 20. Followed by long shot, 20/28,. I have " pushed" the envelope a little with titewad and nughed over the "suggest" load data and had great result.

I'm new in the 28ga world, but 410 3inch was my go to favorite gun. Until ammo ran out. I'm going to start reloading 28 and 410 3inch. After studying all of the information and videos like yous,thank you, I'm leaning towards the mec sizemaster loaders and I would like some information about which load books are available and best for 28ga 3inch and 410 3inch.

With the up and coming revolution of TSS reloading the info you are putting out is great! Not a lot of available data out yet for 12 gauge duplex loads I’ve been looking into duplicating apex steel and TSS blend but with a little bit more than 1/4oz of shot, any info on 12ga soon would be appreciated!

40 Yards is pushing it for the 28 gauge. Better to keep things under 35 yards.
