On November 29, 2020 a terrible accident occurs in Formula 1. Romain Grosjean 34 years old will hit the safety barriers and will get stuck in his F1 on fire for long seconds. Thanks to incredible composure and the prowess of technology at work in improving the safety of motor racing, he will only be slightly injured.

Hi everyone! I simply wanted to do a massive shout out to all of you who recently watched, liked and commented the video. Couldn't have imagined to reach 200k views back in March when the vid only had less than 1000 views. Also thank you all so much for letting me know about the incertain use of the word "tribute" in the title. Back in march I knew he wasn't dead at all, but to me the word "tribute" meant more like an act, a statement intended to show gratitude, respect or even admiration to Romain Grosjean and the way he went out of the flames like a phoenix. Nevertheless, thank you so much for the nice comments you left, I've very glad that you liked the way I edited this moment that certainly went down in the F1 history. Stay safe! ~

I watched that F1 race. Every second that ticked by seemed so much longer than just a second. The longer I watched I began to believe I was watching the last moments of a man’s life. I began to cry. It was like time stood still. The horror on the faces of crew members, team principles and drivers only made it worse. When I saw movement in what was left of the car, I was cautiously optimistic. When Romain Grosjean leapt onto the guardrail, the tears really started to flow. What was almost certainly going to be a horrific outcome turned into a hallelujah miracle moment! That is absolutely what that was, no matter how you define “miracle”. In July of 2022 at IMS, I had the opportunity to shake Romain Grosjean’s hand and tell him how delighted I am to have him in the Indy car series, and in reality, how glad I am that he survived. I stood in line for 2 1/2 hours in the blazing hot sun on asphalt that felt like it was melting my shoes, however, nothing like the heat he endured, for that chance. The sunburn and sore feet were worth it. It was my privilege to shake his hand. I can’t explain why I made it my mission that day, I guess I felt a certain affinity for him, not as a driver, but as a man who survived the un-survivable. He has niched a place in this old gals racing heart. That brief encounter with Romain Grosjean stands out as one of my most memorable fan experiences.

so many factors aligned right. for example the medical car following the peloton for the first lap - it arrived just few seconds after the crash. the cockpit halo introduced just few years ago prevented Grosjean from receiving lethal injuries and allowed him to stay conscious. the requirements for pilot costumes to withstand the fire were also made more strict recently first time after 18 years... and each and every of those measures were introduced after fatal crashes. still there could be some questions raised to configuration of tires/barriers on Bahrain circuit.. but Grosjean is just so lucky to be alive!

This video shows a major safety issue with F1 racing, perhaps including other types of car racing: The driver was saved, because he managed to save himself. If he was unconscious, he would have died. The personnel was trying to put out the fire with mobile fire extinguishers, but as you can see in the video, that was impossible. In my opinion, in every car racing, there should be at least two big fire trucks, in different positions, ready to put out any car fire. Not in countless minutes that could be fatal, but in seconds. We must also not forget Niki Lauda. If Grosjean would have burned alive, everything would have been speaking about this safety issue. Thankfully, this time didn't happen like this...

There have ben a lot of bad crashes in motorsports through the years. This is right at the top of the worst I have seen, and yet due to the safety stuff that a lot of folks complain about he popped up and out of the fire after a guard rail piercing impact. Absolutely nothing short of a miracle. Halos, Hanns, Nomex, tear away suspensions all the stuff. Glad he can live another day, walk another mile, let alone race again. God has a purpose for him.

I thought, that for sure, whatever driver that was, they were gone. Then they mentioned Grosjean's name and that put a face to who was in that fire. The seconds ticked by and nothing was happening. it was crazy. Then there was a shadow. A movement. Then there he was moving towards where the flames were not at. getting out. Coming back towards life and escape. Romain, I am so glad you survived this. Jules and Ayrton and all the people who refused to let up about making the cars and the tracks safer, thank you. To those safety marshalls. you are a special breed. Thank you for what you do every race.

Events like this are proof of the ongoing legacy of other drivers who sometimes paid the ultimate price. Each new safety rule and new technology is written in someone’s blood. Had Henry Surtees not had his horrible accident, the Halo would not have become a thing in F1. And the Halo is one of the things Grosjean would 100% not have survived without. The racing suit that prevented him from suffering agonising and possibly fatal burns to his entire body is the legacy of accidents of people like Niki Lauda. Or take the carbon fibre monocoque. It is amazing to see how far safety has come since the days of old, where drivers raced in the same clothes they would wear at the local pub, plus goggles and maybe a cloth cap. Which in retrospect seems absolutely bonkers.

I'm curious . . . who whould have that chance to escape a fire? Grosjean is probably the luckiest Formula fella I've ever seen, except myself . . . MY LIFE : Me and my cousin were playing on the couch . . . however my skull hit the side of the couch and started bleeding . . . I broke down into tears after the AMMOUNT OF THE PAIN I've taken, just quickly put my hand on the place where I hit my skull and remove it slowly- praying to god not for blood. After I removed my hand I saw a WHOLE FRACTUREMENT OF BLOOD DRIPPING DOWN.

Respect to all the drivers also. All they wanted to know was if he or everyone was ok.

Worst crash I've seen in the modern era by far. I simply could not believe it when Grosjean arose out of those flames. Absolutely incredible.

Without the both the HALO and the HANS device, Roman would've been left incapacitated and unable to rescue himself from the wreck.

At this picture you can see, that sacrifice of all those drivers who died in all racers in history was not in vain. Those suits and clothes which nowadays drivers are wearing can really save lives.

I really feel for the team when things like this happen. They are right there at the track but they can't leave the garage and may as well be 10,000 miles away. Waiting and not knowing like the rest of us but at the same time they have so much at stake.
