This week, your amazing baby has reached 2 ¼ pounds and may be almost 15 inches long, the length of a head of romaine lettuce. With eyes on that prize in this last stretch of pregnancy, you'll probably find the excitement and anticipation mounting, along with your pregnancy aches and pains, which tend to multiply as the load you're carrying gets heavier and heavier. Now may be a good time to start looking for a belly band to support your growing bump.
Baby skill of the week? Blinking. Yes, your baby can now blink those sweet little eyes. This trick joins a growing repertoire of reflexes that already includes coughing, sucking, hiccuping and taking practice breaths.
Are you having lots of vivid dreams these days? You may be surprised to hear that baby might be dreaming too, thanks to the development of REM, or rapid eye movement sleep. Sleep cycles are also coming at more regular times. Problem is, your on-the-go movements lull your little bundle to sleep during the day and leave your baby raring to go just when you're trying to settle down for the night. These nightly acrobatics are just another reason, cute as they are, that you may be having trouble catching those third trimester Zs.
