Today we take a look at how I paint my 28mm Warlord Games Soviet Tank for the Achtung Panzer wargame as well as Bolt Action. In this tutorial, we will take a look at how I paint this Bolt Action KV-2 without using my airbrush. Instead of using an airbrush I show you how you can use oil paints to really make your 28mm Warlord Games Soviet tanks pop on the wargaming tabletop.

I'm a professional painter, and I don't use an airbrush, pretty much all acrylics. I appreciate the painting guides, like yours, that are beginning to come around to the tools that the average gamer/painter will be using, and will keep an eye out for your future videos.

Outstanding Content! Using the push pin (instead of a small brush) to place oils is a great technique especially in the smaller scales!

TBH I am always a bit "cautious" when I hear the word "rusty" and "dirty" in a painting tutorial. Tanks in use don't get rusty. On the tracks you may find some rust after some time but it is such a fine layer that it is gone as soon as the track moves. Also crews car for their tanks. Yes, a tank gets dirty in use, but after it the crew looks for it, i.e. you have to clean all lubrication points, so they are working correcctly still. Last point: In WW2 combat most tanks didn't get old enough to become rusty and dirty. And i.e. in the cold you have to remove any mud because it can clog up any moving parts. Don't get me wrong. I like what you have done here and you haven't gone overboard at all. It is also another story if wanna make your tank look like it s in a combat situation. Just waffling...

Absolutely mate, I completely understand and agree with most of your points. I could imagine with how quickly the Soviets advanced that some tanks would've become rather filthy. In regards to the rust situation, I work on military aircraft and I can speak from experience that rust and rust streaks are common ... even if you're constantly cleaning them 😆 Cheers mate 👍

Most of my armor is 1/72 scale. I have a JS-2, and a T-34 in Bolt Action, for Konflikt 47. Your technique on the tracks looks superb. Overall results on the armor are great! How does the oil effect hold up to handling with wargaming over time?
