With 3751 back in action, it’s only a matter of time before 2926 meets up with it!

My question is, when will she be running and will they ever bring her over to Texas?

Ok soo the plan is to fix the spur and set up the railyard for her. Then we will be running on raton pass I don't know when tho sorry.

Well given someone’s already asked about PTC, I guess I’ll throw in my own question about it. Are there any shadows of plans, or even slight mentions amongst crew members, to eventually equip the 2926 with its own standalone PTC system that doesn’t need a trailing diesel to provide the bulk of the necessary computers?

I'm still not entirely convinced it's even actually possible, steam locomotives are a LOT more complicated to operate than diesel locomotives, and if you lock out certain controls at the wrong time you could easily cause a huge problem for the crew and do permanent damage to the locomotive. It's not as simple as locking out the throttle input or forcing the locomotive into emergency brake mode, everything on steam locomotive is operated by water pressure and valves. The throttle for example moves a bar that runs the entire length of the boiler, you can't exactly just hook that up to some transistors and call it a day. I really wish they'd just scrap PTC requirements on steam locomotives altogether, it's a massive headache for literally zero benefit to anyone.

Also there's absolutely no way 2926 is ever gonna run anywhere without a diesel helper anyway, so why even bother?

@@trainknut tell that to NS when they run 611 and to UP when 844 ran alone on a freight train from Denver back home to Cheyenne. It can and has been done mant times even on big boy boy 4014 its been done.

@@ChargerusPrime those trips were a long time ago my friend... Things have changed, railroad policies are different now and the FRA is way more strict on what has to happen for a steam locomotive to operate on a class 1, you're talking about things that happened 10-20 years ago as if that's how it is today. If I remember correctly, something changed about ten years ago, we haven't seen a mainline trip pulled by a steam locomotive solo since around 2012 and I think that's because the FRA finally mandated all class 1 excursions have a diesel helper present to provide PTC, HEP and dynamic braking. What I'm saying is, I'm not even entirely sure if its _legal_ for UP to put 844 and 4014 on trains by themselves anymore, and if it is, its certainly against their policy as a company.

@@trainknut I can understand that completely, but it happened in 2018 with 844 legal or not so I'm not sure. I just pray 2926 comes to Texas, hopefully Temple which has a huge BNSF yard.

How much effort will fixing the spur take? Any ETA?

All you gotta do is fix the track, restore the tool car and the crossing and she'll be on the mainline in the future.
