Your examples are a great reminder that animation isn't always about making something move but making it alive. You do an astounding job of that with very little motion.

@KelanHordosАй бұрын
Thanks very much! It's hard to say as each shot is different in terms of complexity and what I was aiming for. Some were also done earlier on as I was learning animation and took a lot longer than they would now.

May I ask how many months did you spend on the octopus animation in this 0:37 timecode?
@KelanHordos Жыл бұрын
Hmm...that's a good question. It was a while ago so I don't remember exactly. There was an earlier version of the shot that I did pretty early on when I was learning to animate, I would say I probably worked on that for a few weeks, doing versions, getting feedback and fixing stuff to learn from it. Then I came back and redid it using what I had learned and the earlier version as a basis, and that was probably a week, maybe a week and a half to redo.

Some of the greatest animation i've seen. Completely mesmerizing stuff. What was that last shot with the rocks from, cause that was the dopest shit ever haha
@KelanHordos9 ай бұрын
It is not from anything actually! It was a concept piece I worked on for my brother(his overall idea, which grew more elaborate as we progressed, haha!) while I was learning to animate.
@SteakstixAnimations9 ай бұрын
@@KelanHordos oh wow that’s great! Definitely gotta keep that concept in your pocket in case you ever get to use it for a project 😎

Where you able to find jobs with rough animations on your reels? I'm applying to internships and I put some rough animations on my reel but I have been rejected to one of them and idk if it is because the animation isn't finish.
@KelanHordos Жыл бұрын
Hi Eugenia, do you mean rough animation as in not "clean up" or rough animation as in like first passes of rough that are not tied down? Just want to make sure we are using the terms the same
@ilariacividini4299 Жыл бұрын
These are amazing! Are most of them at 30 fps, 30 drawings per second?
@KelanHordos Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! These are all at 24 fps, and mostly on "2s" with occasional 1s for fast movement. 2s, 1s etc is how many frames each drawing is on screen for. So if there is 24 frames per second on 2s, there are 12 drawings per second. You can use the comma and period key I think to go frame by frame on KZfaq and see each frame.
@ilariacividini4299 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answer! :) I also animate on 2s mostly, for slow movements. I asked because your animations looks so smooth and I thought you used a different technique😂you rock
@KelanHordos Жыл бұрын
@@ilariacividini4299 thanks a lot! Usually the feeling of smoothness comes down to the spacing being right for the movements along with control of the volumes/forms and the right number of in-betweens.

how do you make it so smooth?! Ive tried and iv'e studied about the principles so many times but I just seem to still be slacking! Any tips?! I am a student Animator trying to be as good as you!
@KelanHordosАй бұрын
Hey there, the post below is a pretty good summary. "Smoothness" usually comes down to the timing and spacing working together in a way that feels right. Next, I would say is controlling your forms and having things drawn well so you are not getting any "popping" and if forms are moving in 3d space at all, that controlling and rotating them nicely gives that nice feeling of smoothness. Also, the "popping" refers to anything moving in an arc, should follow that arc through and not "pop" out of place.
@MattEldritchHorror Жыл бұрын
What are the little symbols that pop in and out during the demo reel?
@KelanHordos Жыл бұрын
Those are timing charts, you can find some videos explaining them in more detail on KZfaq.

I want to use it in a school project, can I use it? Or is it copyrighted?
@KelanHordos Жыл бұрын
Well, I would own the copyright, but it is a personal, not commercial project. Could you elaborate on what you would use it for? As long as you credit me I would most likely be happy to give permission for anything as long as it's appropriate.
