I'd also list Cuphead as an honorable mention. Sure, it's hard as heck, but the beauty of those graphics make up for it to me.

7:50 I personally love these games with all my heart. Masterpieces. I don't care what anyone else says, they're only hated because they're just the same game with different levels. But they have so much charm, and I grew up with these games, as well. Call it bias, but hey, bias is valid, too.

I actually think they're both good games, but the reason they "left a sour taste" is because they were too similar to the Wii game. They're still good games though. The internet definitely treats them worse than they deserve.

Honestly 2d games are better cuz they don't have so many issues with optimization and characters clipping into stuff

Whenever I play 3d games I feel like there are a ton of bugs that take away from immersion. We're as I've seen almost "perfect" 2d games

To me 2d games are harder than 3d game because you can not move around so much if you want to dodge attacks (this is only my opinion)

Not Star Allies. The levels were spaced out and uninspired compared to others. Return to Dreamland is great though, even if it's less mechanically focused than Super Star or the 3DS games.

It's a crime you didn't mention Super Meat Boy, it was my introduction to indie games and one of my all time favorite platformers next to DKC returns and the soundtrack, LOOOOORRRD

i think you missed out mentioning the precision platformer aspect, games like celeste, super meat boy, inside, VVVVVV, . all of these are also staples of 2d games

Especially considering precision platforming is one of the biggest strengths 2D games have over 3D games.

Metroid Dread DEFINETLY deserved its own section, it's one of my favorite games cuz of cool graphics, abilities, boss fights, world. I just feel like it's progression is too linear and you have to follow a specific path unlike Hollow Knight. I really liked the sequence breaks tho. 5th favorite game after nsmbw, hk, botw, totk.

I played through the game and while I liked it, I just came off playing some other metroidvanias that I enjoyed more. Plus I don't have a ton of footage for the game so it would've been hard to give it its own section.

Great video, but absence of Celeste is upset me a little. It definetly deserves to be called "one of the best 2D games" too.

Celeste is listed as an honorable mention 14:17. I haven't played the game so it would have been impossible to talk about it.

It's a one of a kind game, but these past 40 years have given us hundreds of masterpieces. I have played a lot of games I would choose over it.
