and, you don't "give up on sanity and DECIDE to be crazy" you can give up on trying, and you can give up on pretending to be happy, but you don't give up on sanity, you slowly lose it, not knowing it's happening, and sometimes you fall apart completely after bending for so long no one just up front and center decides to be crazy, only twelve year olds that read creepy pasta do that, and that's because they have a bunch of new hormones they don't understand, and they read about stupid inaccurate stereotypes that somewhat relate to them but are portrayed as "insane" without having much realism to it so, as a result, the kid thinks "oh hey, this person is like, me, and I like horror, I must be crazy" so they act the part. but they aren't crazy, just put in a bad situation it also doesn't help that so many people in those types of fandoms romanticise murder and insanity

also, when I say twelve year olds, I mean people who are mentally the age of twelve, there are people who are ten and have the mentality and understanding of life that a fifteen or twenty year old would have, and there are fifteen and twenty year olds who have the mentality of a ten year old sorry I went on a bit of a tangent there, it's just that I don't like it when people romanticise or get the facts wrong about mental illness... it just seems... gross....

It really doesn't represent his emotions or moods. The reason why his eyes turn black is because of the blood pooling to the front of his eyes which makes his vision blurry as hell and as you've seen at the end of humility he was almost tripping.
