With wheels, tires, a servo upgrade and a Fusion se 1800 with the factory 20% rear underdrive, the Ascent is a really good crawler. My DSM frame is on the way along with brass rings and Injora pins. Have you experimented with front/rear diff gears and the transfer case gears? Testing 20% T-case with 9.5% rear diff underdrive this weekend. Can't believe you kept my attention for 46 minutes! LMAO, great video!

No I haven’t swapped any other gearing yet. Just the included under drive. Lol I’m surprised I kept your attention that long also. Really appreciate your time tho! Keep me updated on how yours does. I do have some of the treal od diff gears but haven’t installed them yet

Sweet looking rig! Something to take into account is the Ruptures vs everything else. They're quite a few steps above any other tire. In some cases I would say 3 - 4x better than proline predator compound tires.

Yeah they really are. I swapped these tires on a few different trucks just to see because I knew they were really good. I kinda flip flop them between this truck and anything I’m trying to test to the max because they are the best tires out imo

Well I’ve been looking and looking this morning and so far i haven’t found them. It must be a link size they don’t offer anymore or something. I thought it came from a Capra kit from club 5 but that don’t match up like you said. I did find where you can buy a 105mm link from them separately but it’s a straight link. Sorry I’m no help

Awesome video as always man! Redcat is killing it with these new releases, awesome mods crazy how it's hanging with the high dollar rigs. Excited to see what you think about their new MOA crawler. Also can you turn off the HDR setting? Everytime time I watch on my TV my screen gets insanely bright, maybe just me complaining.

I’m not even sure where the setting is for it lol. I’ll check. I did pick up the moa Redcat also. Only issue I have with it is it’s only 2s capable unlike the old Ridgerock which could handle 3s. It’s insanely slow and can’t hang at all out of the box. 3s would definitely help it but it shuts down on a 3s battery 🤦🏻♂️

That's Wild! Just last night we were talking about the Ascent and I said the first major change I will make is move the servo to the axle. I commented on another of your videos and I gather you're somewhere near Mammoth Caves. Yeah, I'm stalking you. Actually, my son lives in Indianapolis and I live near Chattanooga and we were thinking of meeting near Cave City because my Granddaughter loves dinosaurs and there's an exhibit near there. I've been checking out campgrounds around there but if it's hot my Daughter-in-Law will have a B&B. Now I have one more reason knowing all that rock is in the area. Any advice you could give about the area would be greatly appreciated! You wouldn't know the Cumberland Falls Area, would you? I wonder if rock like in your videos is on all the river banks. Down here, not so much. Our Rock is more Vertical for Great Climbing but I don't do much of that anymore.

That’s awesome! I don’t know much about the Cumberland falls area but the Nolin dam spillway is one spot we run a lot and it’s pretty close to Cave City and Mammoth Cave area. Probably 30 mins. Lots of good running in this area.

Love your video.. I don't know much about any of this stuff.. I was wondering if the Fusion SE could also work in a TRX-4 Sport.. Is it a simple bolt in process..?

It should work well in that truck. I haven’t personally put it in one but every 1/10 I’ve put it in it has ran very well. Should be a simple swap. Do you know if your receiver in the trx4 is seperate from your esc? I’m not familiar with the setup in those. If not you may have to change out your transmitter/receiver also.

I don't know, it is a TRX4 Sport single speed is all I know.. I turn the controller on and plug in the battery and press a red button on something to get it to light up and then drive it..

i'm still not convinced. though you've made it look good, how much troubleshooting did you have to do and diy to really get it there? i love simplicity and just looking at the stock rig seemed so over engineered. how much geometry of the links did you have to redo? I don't think I caught that. That's a big deal with many rigs is the way those are built with the shocks that really make a diff on keeping the rig planted.

I was victim of tedcst not putting loctite on the front uportwl shaft grub and when it blew I was already in koveveith the truck so i went full trewo axles with portal covers instewd of just replacing thr shaft. Now it went from normal duct tape on the rocks to gorilla glue lol. I'm wanting in funds to do the Rick warrior chassis swap and I think I'll be done except for cosmetic at that point.my first truck, but not my last

@@2fmrc I wanted to try the servo on axle myself, but I just can't get right with the 4 link hitting the motor can. I know it performs good that is obvious. As far as weight goes, can you confirm that on the front axle the ascent takes gen 8 OUTERS, GEN 9 INNERS, what brass does the rear axle require?

@@2fmrc thanks! I'm gonna try the injora green tire liners as soon as they come in. Also, you can lockout the slipper by removing the pads and keying the metal plates directly into the spur if you want.

Besides the stiff rear springs, did you do anything else in the rear regarding suspension?

I flipped the bottom link mounts to get a little more clearance. Some say that ruins the geometry of the truck (I’ve been told) but it seems to run amazing to me lol. I also stretched the truck a bit with the high clearance links. Only because at the time there were no links available for the ascent so I made some I had work. That’s about it that would affect the rear end.

I think you’re talking about the Hardpark dementor chassis on the right at the beginning. As far as the ascent.. I prefer the servo on axle I did on this one over the chassis mounted setup. I’ve stretched this one and added quite a bit of weight so it performs a bit better but the ascent fusion isn’t far off. I’d probably do some of the same mods to it as well.

I was very interested in the dsm chassis until i saw your setup. After some research I've found that you can't 4 link and servo mount the front axle without using a revolver motor. Id rather stick with the fusion se. It would be awesome if you did a detailed benchtop showing exactly how we could replicate your front end.

So is the servo on the axle the game changer I notice you don’t have the right front lifting like you see on completely stock trucks but even then they are very good.

It made a big difference on the bump steer but honestly it crawled amazing with the stock setup. The only reason I swapped this one was because the holes were stripping on the axle for the panhard mount. Plus I figured it would stop the bump steer.

I went back and forth between this and the vanquish carbon just a few days ago. I figured that I’d change everything on the ascent anyways so went with the carbon. I don’t think that was a bad decision but I might just have to be getting the ascent next.

I have a heavily modified Ascent & the Vanquish carbon kit is next on my list I guess no matter what order these are 2 awesome rigs & you can’t go wrong & if you can get both it’ll be interesting taking them both out that’s what I like about having so many different rigs & sometimes price & tons of upgrades doesn’t always matter. I ran my Element SE today with the Element in very wet conditions & for whatever reason it seemed to do better in some areas but it does have a Fusion SE & metal beadlocks & it’s a servo on axle truck so maybe that’s why moving the servo to axle on the Ascent maybe the key it seems to eliminate any torque twist.

It's because a lot of people shoot for 60/40 you know maybe even more than 60 in the front end and don't run no brass in the rear end I run brass and every one of my rides in the rear end a little bit

@2fmrc The video says "Best RTR crawler of 2023?!" It doesn't say the best modified. RTR refers to ready to run out of the box. You are correct in saying that we do modify our rc's.

Guess I should’ve said best rtr under $300. And I’ll 100% stand by that. Now we have the vrd stance and a few other rtrs that are really good but they cost more. Glad Redcat set a bit of a new standard and we can get some better rtrs for once 🤷🏻♂️

@@rcjoe406 no I’m an idiot lol. They are plastic in the transfer case. They give you the extra under drive and it’s all plastic. I’m not awake yet today apparently. So far the slipper has taken care of the gears though. I don’t see them being an issue. I’d say Treal will offer some metal ones soon. They seem to like Redcat lol

Redcat is the biggest piece of shit ive ever owned. Parts are cheap and brake easily, mine came in a bind from the factory and had to completely disassemble and reassemble correctly. Broke an axle within 10 minutes. Everytime it goes out something breaks. Drive shaft, axle, steer link, servo horn, stripped out diff, trans gears, main gear, shock cap snapped off, and its still ticking. Its fun but breaks too easily. No aftermarket parts... either. 😢

@rexracer7192 I don't have a thousand dollar car. I've got the redcat everest gen 7 and a scx24 that I just got 2 days ago. So what else you got? I don't remember you being there when I've had to fix this thing repeatedly. Or are you just mad you spent 200 bucks on a piece of shit too? I don't give a fuck. Brake fix wheel repeat.its still a price of shit. You obviously don't have one or never watched any videos on the piece of shit where others talk about it coming in a bind and having to tear down and rebuild it.
