* TIPS AND ADVICE BELOW*
I made this video while doing my valve stem seals on my 1994 Toyota Supra 2JZ-GTE. I saw some other YT videos but I wanted to make one showing more detailed steps of removing and replacing a valve stem seal on a Toyota 2JZ-GTE engine. This video applies to pretty much any Toyota engine and the overall concept applies to the majority of valve stem seal removal and replacement.
My car was smoking on startup and when accelerating from a stop... for years. I could have left it with bad valve stem seals but the smell really annoyed me. Also, spark plugs and catalytic converters are impacted over time with the bad seals. The mixture of fuel and oil leaves a nasty residue on clothes and a smoking car just looks ghetto in my opinion.
I wish I did not have to do this job. It was a pain but I have trouble trusting people working on my car. I guess in the case I might have trusted someone because it took me a week to do it. I know...pathetic but I did it and that is what counts.
Tips and advice:
This is the guide I used to help me. Whoever this guy is, he is the man. Really did a good job with the Toyota Supra Valve Stem Seal DIY write up:
www.mkivsupra.net/topic/25319...
Buy the new Viton seals. Many reputable companies make them: GCS, Supertech, and Ferrera to name a few.
www.power-division.com/gsc-po...
Buy some engine lube to put them in
Also, the ToyoTool ValveMaster is a must!
www.toyotool.com/
DO NOT, I REPEAT! DO NOT miss and scar the bucket bore area with the toyotool when pressing down. This is the area where the bucket sits. It is cylinder area around the spring. If you do, the bucket will not go back in. I spent 6 hours with some 800 grit sandpaper fixing a mistake I did.
Make sure to stay organized.

@DriversTherapy
@DriversTherapy 2 жыл бұрын
I had to be very careful but I still messed it up on one spring and I had to sand for a long time to clean up the nick I did on the bore. I advise you to try to get the tool aligned as best as you can, just don't hit the bore. It is doable but you have to take your time and lean over. The only other suggestion is to remove the "engine removal hook". Thank you for watching the video.

So what i do get is when you push down on the tool for the cap and 2 keepers, that the keepers will snap into the valve on the top side. But what i dont get is when you also push down on the cap to remove the cap and keepers, how does that work when you are pushing down and not pulling up ?
@DriversTherapy

The same action is for both removing and installing. The difference is the tool itself. One side has a magnet and the other side is designed differently. The tool is key when performing this job.

If you use the tool and you press down, you should be good. I roughly measured the first ones by taking a measurement of the old valve stem seal and another when I installed the new one. I took the measurement using a small ruler. I only did it for a few of them since once they are down, they are down. Don’t over think it.

@@johnpierce149 pretty easy. You set the cylinder you are working on to “bottom dead center” and stuff it with rope. Than you slightly go up to Top Dead Center till you get some resistance and stop.
