In this art video tutorial, I delve into the creative possibilities of the Dina Wakley Media Journal, a versatile platform for artistic experimentation. Across a two-page spread, I explore the juxtaposition of different surfaces, utilizing both watercolor paper and raw canvas. Through the application of acrylic paint, I construct a large abstract painting, spanning the breadth of both pages. Adding depth and texture, I incorporate a Joggles Stencil in gold, enhancing the visual impact of the composition.

I did think the green pages would look spectacular with the wings😊. I could see it framed as one picture in my house, as that background especially is something that I adore. Chipped up layers of pain on furniture, etc. But of course, everything you do is beautiful Denise & I look forward to seeing every single video you share with us❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

Denise, I love your art and your enthusiasm. When you stencil and have paint (or whatever) on the top flip it over and press. You get a lovely reverse and it doesn't waste paint. Try it!

What a fun day! That is indeed, one of Elizabeth’s Klimt stencils. I agree with your choice to hold off on the wings. I think the other page is perfectly suited to them. You might like to know that Dina is having a limited run of the black journal coming out in July/August, although I am not positive which size it will be. They are doing this to precede her next two journals which will be coming out. One will be a watercolor journal, and the other will be a ledger journal.

Love the color combo. Gold was definitely the way to go. Great paint day! Wasn't expecting the canvas to shrink so much. Would it shrink more if you added more layers of gesso?

It seems to have a standard amount of shrinkage no matter what I added to different ones I’ve painted so far in there. First time it did that I was surprised… now I know to expect it. 😁 Thank you! 🥰

Questions and comments for you. 1) I typically comment on Instagram because I watch your videos on my big screen tv. 😅 2) The wing is still available on Stencil Girl. I’ve been looking forward to seeing the video of you doing that wings spread ever since I caught a glimpse of it when you showed us some of the pages. So, once I saw where you got the wings stencil, I went right to the site and bought it. 3) We can use gel medium and rice paper on top of gessoed canvas? I’m going to try something in my Dina Wakely journal today and just want to check. 4) I saw that Dina Wakely once had a Blue Multimedia Journal available which included denim pages. Do you think I could use my old jeans to cut up as pages in a journal I make using your Skillshare class instructions? Thank you! We think you’re so fun, talented, inspiring and amazing!

I watch KZfaq on my tv now too! You should be able to use the gel medium and rice paper with no problems on canvas! I don’t see why you can’t cut up your jeans and make some pages out of those. I did that with linen and canvas. Should work the same. I didn’t get a blue jean journal - I didn’t think I’d love that surface. Good luck!! 😁

Hi Denise. I happened upon your channel a couple of days ago and have watched several videos since then. They are all terrific! I’m brand new to art journaling so watching your creativity is inspiring! I actually have that journal book by Dina Wakley so it will be fun to watch as you fill it up… esp the canvas and burlap pages. My question is whether you consider today’s page finished or will you add to it? It is beautiful just as it is but I’m trying to find my style so I tend to ask lots of questions! There are so many great AJ videos and artists with beautiful work but it’s often so different. I am happy to subscribe to your channel so I can learn more from you!

So glad you are here!! For the moment it is finished... but that doesn't mean I won't be inspired to change or add to it later. As I create more pages, something might trigger an idea that I go back to it. We'll just have to see. As I flip though the finished pages it is so exciting to see all the pages in the book. Not everything you do has to be some big complicated masterpiece... sometimes it is good to just play and learn and move forward. 😊
