FURATUS: Human creativity is versatile and endless. If we enthuse about something we feel a need to convey that enthusiasm to others - to quote, to recite. Creativity is thus closely bound up with inspiration. One of the oldest and most resilient ways of fostering cultural life is to “borrow” ideas. In music this has been normal practice as long as there have been songs and singers to sing them. In the Romantic period this musical borrowing became an art form in its own right, with world-famous virtuosos and composers leading the way. But there are also artists today who relish this art form. Meet two of them here!
Music by Edvard Grieg, Kosaku Yamada, Dmitry Shostakovich, Geirr Tveitt and Carl Nielsen transcribed and performed by Wolfgang Plagge and Ole Edvard Antonsen.

Ole has the most pleasing tone to listen to of all trumpeters I listen too. Especially the classical, orchestra guys. He is mellow and sweet or piercing and sharp edged when it is needed. He is a legend among all trumpeters.

Wow, maestro Ole is playing trumpet in C. At first I thought it would be a standard in B trumpet

I mean his main horn is always c. Also listen to the range, so much easier on c trumpet

Why is the range easier on C? The higher range would for certain be easier on a Bb, no?

I would like to talk him to know if it really comes effortless. He looks like a normal classical player who started early, found his perfect instrument and mouthpiece, practiced a lot really a lot with refusing ever to force , who hears everything, reads so well he can play most things on sight so he doesn't waste embouchure on study or rehearsal but who stil has his limitations like almost all classical players. I always felt that controlling the tone all the time requires tiny muscle movements and so that you really should not use brute force or too long practice on such sensitive muscles. This could be the reason classical players often have less endurance. But he could be an exception. The general public doesn't even know how wonderful a trumpet can sound and perhaps even prefers to hear high blowers. So building out a career in classical beautiful solo playing is not for everybody. But luckily he does other things too.
