12:30 Yes, the Stealth stock shaft being "a little softer" may give more kick on swings where it releases at the moment you strike the ball, but when you don't, you will go more left and more right - so greater dispersion. The stiffer Callaway shaft may not be as explosive, but delivers better dispersion (considerably). We all load our shafts a little differently, so this shows the importance of finding the shaft that best works for you. It will be even more interesting to see this match up once you can test these drivers with the same shaft that is fitted to your swing. But indeed, this is the head-to-head we have all been waiting for, and I can't wait for the next optimized round.

Higher ball speed, more deviation, less efficiency with Stealth. Way more consistency, less dispersion, and it was more efficient. I’d rather hit the rouge if I had those numbers. Sounds like the Kaiali shaft had a softer mid section. Great video, I’d like to see another side by side comparison with the same shaft in both

This was a really interesting comparison. I know it’s too early in the release cycle for this right now, but I’d love to see you all revisit this down the line comparing the low-spin models (Stealth Plus vs. Max LS or TD LS) and the forgiving models (regular Stealth and Max) with Thomas’s gamer shaft in all of them. The Kai’li White seemed impressive here! Mitsubishi’s saying that’s the real-deal version, not a made-for, so it’s a heck of a value, too. Eager to see for myself if the “blueboard feel with whiteboard performance” marketing talk is legit - if so, that would be a monster shaft.

Stealth Plus heat map was right in the middle of the face Rogue ST Max LS was slightly high toe. Interesting that I was in the center with the Stealth Plus but only 1.46 smash while off center with Rogue ST Max LS but 1.48 smash. The lower spin could be caused by being slightly high toe however. @@2ndswing I noticed (in my highly inconsistent swing) that the Rogue was incredibly forgiving for off-center strikes. I had a handful that were pretty well on the toe or heel and my first thought was “crap, that’s gonna pull/push” just to see it going about 90-95% carry of a good strike and only 20-30’ off line. I really really wanted to like the Stealth better because - let’s be honest - their marketing is great… but the feel and forgiveness along with performance of the Rogue had me sold after trying both side by side.

Thomas, the shafts may both nominally weigh 60 grams, but they are not the same in bend profile or even exact weight and as you point out they have to make a difference in performance. If you were actually looking to put a new driver in the bag, and trying to decide which of these two gave you the overall best result, you would surely be trying them out with several different shafts and using the same shaft in each head to get an apples to apples comparison, and in the end might not use either stock shaft. Also, what ball are you using? The final choice for you or for any elite pro would probably also involve a ball that gave you exactly the desired combination of spin, distance and feel. But for this demo, the Rogue ST Max LS is a clear winner. Any pro trying to win under intense pressure would 100% take the dispersion pattern you got with the Rogue here, with every ball in the fairway and all giving you about the same distance for your approach shot on each day of the tournament. Meanwhile, the pro using the Stealth would be all over the place, including a shot out of the rough. That one shot alone might cost him a victory.

Stealth must be a lighter head. All tests consistently show it being faster club head speed, and the slightly lower smash also indicates a lighter head. The weight saving by the carbon face hasn't only be redistributed, some hasn't been put back in. That will reduce MOI, and that can also be seen in the higher dispersion.

So do you want your drive in the fairway a few yards shorter or do you want to hit bombs where only some are playable? The dispersion says it all. I found the exact same thing with the sim2 and epic max last year. I could hit a few long ones with the sim2 but the epic max was almost always in a good position on the fairway. And then I found the TSI3 and got both distance and great dispersion. The shaft is key to getting the best results and I love 2 of them.. speederNX and ventus blue. If I'm spraying the NX i just put in the ventus and voila... straight drives down the middle.

Callaway Rogue ST with stock shaft appears to be a Dream combination in control which would factor at +10% in distance/score value ultimately. Taylormade did launch a Carbon fibre face driver (Gloire) in 2014 for Japan. Didn't scale much heights with that. Callaway did launch a Carbon fibre face driver, C4 about 15 years ago, again this didn't make the cut. Now, whether Carbon face will retain the C.O.R and repulsion factor over a period or not is something unknown against Titanium alloy faces which do well for at least 300 rounds of Golf. Why don't the Giants like Callaway and Taylormade make Forged Titanium face drivers like many Brands in Japan do? Even if it is expensive, the sheer numbers would bring down the costing by a lot. It is a different level of performance with Forged Face Titanium drivers just like the Forged Irons!

Kind of typical of what I experience. TaylorMade can hit bombs but the dispersion is wider and the spin goes up and down. Callaway is better at consistency, has Ping-like forgiveness and in this iteration is as long as the TM. And there is no plastic coating on the face. TM got a lot of buzz the day of release, but the Callaway performs in all the categories I prioritize and is the one I’ll go with.

The swing speed difference is the way your radar (trackman) is picking up the shape of the head. It’s been that way for years with different shape heads. Sim and sim 2 also read different with the exact Same shaft. The true comparison is ball speed. Both of those shafts are Mitsubishi whiteboard profiles with slight material differences. It’s not the shaft causing 4 mph difference.
@2ndswing
@2ndswing 2 жыл бұрын
It could absolutely be part of the equation, however I can tell you when hitting both I could feel a difference in the speed and I just couldn't get there with the Rogue ST. Trackman update their algorithms and software regularly so once they have had the opportunity to test the clubs if that is the case the changes will be made. I remember the first TaylorMade white driver head effected speed readings but most importantly the ball speed will always be consistent unit to unit - Thomas
@jwild5360
@jwild5360 2 жыл бұрын
@@2ndswing correct ball speed is king with trackman. The radar they use will always read shapes differently unless the completely get rid of the current system. A change of 4mph isn’t likely even with a 10 gram Variance in shaft weight. Especially not under the same profile. Kick point is virtually in the same place. I’m betting the overall weight is nearly identical of both clubs. Of all the aspiring pros and successful pros I see weekly this holds true. We often do testing together when new equipment comes out with the prototype heads and we all usually find the same results. Who knows maybe your the one in 50 that is effected. At this level I’ve not seen it.

The data here is being misinterpreted. They were probably being swung at close to the same clubhead speeds but Trackman tracks the geometric center of the club face - which is just an approximation - thus only ball speeds are actually reliable. Also, you can see that the spin numbers for the Stealth were estimated - that's why spin is italicized. Not sure whether you're using the new Titleist RCT balls but that may help with reading spin indoors. Club Head speed is just not a good metric to test head vs head given how Trackman guesses geometric centers on different heads vs tracking club face like GCQuad does.
@2ndswing
@2ndswing 2 жыл бұрын
Most important is ball speed for sure! Trackman does work on algorithms when new drivers come out, thinking about the first TaylorMade white driver head I remember the club speed was much faster so once they can test with the new clubs any modifications if any will be made. We were using the RCT ball, have been since they came out, I believe it was one shot italicized yet the spin number was similar to other shots so no need to remove from the data (it's still within 250 rpm when italicized). - Thomas

With a robot test swinger which can hit the ball in the center of the face every time, Stealth will perform better. However, off center hits which is the reality for us casual golfers is where the Rogue scores. Stealth is the first carbon faced driver so TM will make the second Stealth better.

Lest we forget Calloway tried the carbon face driver over 20yrs ago with the C4. Didn't catch on then. Can't imagine what the Stealth dispersion looks like for the poor average golfer that lays down some $$$ for it. Stealth is what you'll be when you're lost in the woods. If you're obsessed with swing speed over all else maybe Stealth wins the day but by any measure of aggregate performance Rogue seems a clear choice.

Accomplished golfers can play just about anything and do well. Their differences are much more narrow and their tweaks much less dramatic. The average player is the one who will be affected most by this choice. I'd like to see someone who hits it 250 (total) hit these two clubs. I'd bet the TM would come out on top because the slower swinger will get killed by the lack of spin. (And again, the accomplished player may not like higher spin rates, but won't he as affected by them.)

Erm, shortest driver? He hit what he reckoned was his longer ever testing driver with the Stealth. Assume you mean stock shafts - the Mitsubishi shaft is available as a stock shaft. Bearing in mind his launch was lower and spin was higher I’d go as far to say it’d be longer than the Rogue if a fitted shaft was in there that mirrored the numbers he has from the Rogue (which are ideal, high launch + low spin = ideal). As it was the Stealth was longer anyway, not sure what you were watching

You're forgetting that these are not fitted drivers. Ball speed is king when it comes to driver fitting and he was significantly quicker with the Stealth driver. I'd like to see a fitted Stealth vs fitted Rogue, that's the only way you can see which driver is truly best for Thomas. I've seen numerous videos where the clubhead speed with the Stealth his higher than the testers usual speeds but this may be because of how Trackman reads the speed on these carbon faced drivers. As I previously mentioned ball speed is the number you should really be looking at and if you can max out your launch and spin around this it would equate to a longer driver.

@@No_Fear_33 - the Stealth was longer… he hit shots that went further than the Rogue. It’s not surprising as his spin and launch profiles were all wrong. And anyone with a swing speed less than 100mph is going to struggle with that “stock” set up you seem to think knocks the Stealth out of the park. No spin = your average 12 handicapper won’t get it airborne. By which logic the Stealth would be the better driver in its current stock set up as it spins a bit more. 9• of loft… no spin… winner winner in stock spec for the average golfer 🤦‍♂ Anyway - people should just get ruddy fitted. Guarantee if he’d have chopped and changed shafts the results would be completely different across metrics for both drivers.
