I’m really impressed with how much information and preparation you get for placement! We don’t get told anything... and we can be assigned placement anywhere in the state (over 800,000 square km)! The module approach sounds interesting - very different from how things are run here. Was paramed run the same way when you were studying that? Have you made any friends in your new cohort yet? How are you finding online learning? It’s good that your classes are recorded - they don’t do that for us 😔. What’s the mix of face to face vs online for your course at the moment?

Hi I’m just wondering how paramedic science at university is graded, do u do like a big final exam at the end of the 3 years and do u get a grade such as a first or “2.1” or is it different, thanks

Depends on the university but I dont know many unis who do one big exam. For mine we do a mix of different assessments such as presentations, coursework and research assignments as well as practical OSCEs and exams.

And in regards with grades yes you'll recieve a grade for each year however for your 2nd and 3rd year usually what are used which combine to give you a grade overall but as this is also a course which requires you to do skills effectively some exams and practicals are also pass/fail.

Hiya, I’m in year 10 and I only have year 11 left, could you tell me what you have to take in college before going to university please I was just wondering because I would hopefully like to become a paramedic!

At least a level 3 in health and social care or level 3 health science, make sure you pass maths and English and sciences in year 11, or you could go and do a levels I recommend you taking biology and chemistry and possibly maths as that will help with calculating the right medications for the wight and height for patients, if you could like to be a paramedic when your older I recommend you taking heaths science or a levels, but if you want a in-site in health care first I recommend you taking health and social care level 2 then move on to level 3 health science, hope this helps, if you want any more information fell free to trop a message down below and I’ll try my best to answer for you

Hey Elle. First of all it’s brilliant you know what you want to do... it’s very rare to know so early on! It all depends on you really... I didn’t do very well in school and had to retake most of the stuff back at college again. I’d say concentrate really hard on achieving maths English and science! These will give you a really good baseline. In order to get into university you need 5 GCSEs 3 have to be those core subjects. If you achieve these then you only need to other GCSEs to obtain, if not you’ll have to retake them alongside your studies at college. You’ll then need 3 a levels or equivalent. What I would say is to have a look at some university’s that you may be interested in and just check what the entry requirements are. I would highly recommend health and social care level three extended diploma. It’s a 2 year course. I attended placement alongside this and gained some experience which really helped me!
