Fresh ingredients, freshly prepared, and extremely affordable. We took on the challenge to see just how much Thai street food we could get for only 5 US Dollars, which equates to about 165 Thai Baht! The first thing that you tried is ข้าวจี่ which translates to grilled rice so it is basically sticky rice dipped in egg and then grilled. The sour sausage you guys had is ไส้กรอกอีสาน which translates to Esarn Sausage which is usually sour and it is made from fermented meat usually pork. Hope it helps! :)

@@2Passports1Dream อีสาน usually has a standard transliteration as "Isaan" which is the Northeastern part of Thailand. There are sour and non-sour versions of them, and I usually like the non-sour ones more because I think the sour covers the umami up too much for me

Foreigners who have been in Thailand for a long time, Often take one habit back to their homes too, that is the habit of "want to dip" 😁🤣 Because Thailand is one of the kings of the world's dipping sauces. Lol.🤭

for detail The first one is Kao-Jee (ข้าวจี่). It's made from sticky rice seasoned with salt, dipped in egg and grill on charcoal fire. The second is roti (โรตี) which is basically unleavened flatbread cooked through frying. In Thailand, it often has filling such as egg, banana, chocolate, etc. The third one is simple pineapple. The fruit carts usually have multiple type of fruit (mango, watermelon, pineapple, etc.) and usually give "salt and chilli" dipping for sour fruits. The 4th is coconut milk ice cream. This ice cream might be served in cup, edible cone, or in bread. Aside from peanut, they can also come with sweet sticky rice, taro, or sweetened yam* The 5th is sugarcane juice. It can be drink as-in but it is also the precursor to cane sugar (through evaporation of water) or liquor (through fermentation) the last is Sai krok Isan (ไส้กรอกอีสาน, Northeastern style sausage). While the main part is pork, it also includes rice with little fermentation, give it a bit of sour taste. *somehow when I type Thai word for sweetened yam (มันเชื่อม) in google, it get translated as "It welds" which is technically correct because it's both homograph (writen the same) and homophone (pronounced the same).

man...... coconut ice cream + sticky rice on a bun is an absolute classic. i have always preferred sticky rice to red beans. i don't know if it's nostalgia and rose coloured glasses but the old time buns were super soft and fragrant. it should have been crushed peanuts instead of whole, though. and it used to be carnation (evaporated) milk rather than sweetened condensed milk.

Oh wow that sounds super delicious - we really want to try it in a bun! 😍 perhaps it was evaporated milk (to be completely honest not sure we would be able to tell the difference 😅)

@@2Passports1Dream when the vendor put the milk on the ice cream, the evaporated milk is more runny while condensed milk is more viscous (it has a lot of sugar and behaves more like syrup)

I love coconut ice cream in the bun with a bit of sticky rice. Yummm!! Sugar cane juice is usually straight up like that, I’ll add crushed ice to dilute the sweetness a bit. But I prefer palm sugar juice, it’s a milder kind of sweetness. I love northern style sausages, but for a street side snack I prefer Isan (northeastern sausages). The sourness from the fermentation is both mouthwatering and refreshing, and it goes really well with the garnish (fresh cabbage and pickled ginger).

I would recommend Ari area for street food as well as cafe hopping. There is an allocated area for food cart vendors at the start of Phahon Yothin 7 alley and in a nearby soi close to the bts exit. A few year back Bangkok put up restrictions on street vendors and that's the reason why they're harder to find now. Ari is considered kind of a hipster-ish area so there are many nice cafes and bars around there too.

The 1st menu on a video call “Kaw Jee”. Kaw = Rice Jee = grilled Kaw jee is sticky rice and coated by eggs. Kaw jee is a menu from North east of Thailand . They have a rice left on a dinner, they will do this menu for their kids as a snacks! Similar to a mash mellow on camp fire hahaha.y

OMG I miss my home so much, Bangkok at this time will decorate Christmas all over the place. And for sugar cane you can drink it like that and for that sausage we call it Sai-Kok isarn which is the sausage kind from north eastern Thailand.

That wasn't Sai-Kok isarn. That was actually called Sai-Oua. Sai-Kok isarn has some rice, garlic, glass noodles and some pork minced whereas Sai-Oua is just meat mixed with Thai herbs. I also missed my hometown. I lived in Khon Kaen which is at Northeast of Thailand.

I agree Thai coconut ice cream is "insanely" good and yes, that is how you drink sugarcane juice; both are my favorites but then so is the grilled flatten bananas and mini pineapple.

Wow! Many things you have in this video are all my favorite especially the coconut ice-cream and the Isaan sausage. I love eating Isaan sausage with fresh chilies, I recommend you try that but...be careful it's super spicy. Hope to see more of your video soon.

Hi guys, the sugar cane juice is supposed to be consumed as is, and it is very refreshing. If you process this juice in a sugar factory then it will become granulated sugar. Also, the rice cake ("Khao Jee") in the beginning is one of my favorite Thai snacks. You can find this Khao Jee in a lot of places in the Northeast provinces of Thailand, but it is difficult to find in Bangkok though. Anyhow, awesome vlog as always you guys!!!

Thank you for your VDO, another lovely episode :) I will be sad when you leave Thailand. For the icecream vendor like this, you can choose other options of topping as well such as sticky rice, sweetened sweet potato and my favorite one is sweetened palm seed (look-chid) ^0^

Yep been all along there on Sukhumvit it’s fantastic food. Never had the guts to try the little balls on account of not knowing what was in them 😀 tend to stick to things that resemble chicken. 🤣 Brilliant vid can’t wait to get back there and up to CM cheers.

You would not regret eating these sausages. They are great. Especially straight after they have been cooked. I've only had 1 bad one ever, but that was because it was a little cold.

0:55 That's called "Khao-Jee" (ข้าวจี่) . Made from sticky rice dipped in scrambled eggs and then grilled on the stove. It's popular to eat in the north and northeastern region. From Thailand.
