Yo I'm genuinely curious as someone who's only liked kpop since like 2017, was it really more chill before? If so, why'd it become so much more serious now?

Gita Markman I remember before Kpop ever had this great of an influence, idol groups were friendly with each other, Koop wasn’t some sort of competition and friendships were present an visible (you might know the 92-liners, the Maknae group and groups like this) it wasn’t something that surprised this many people. But now I feel like idols are being put on this huge pedestal and fan bases prohibit them from human interactions because they have this messed up idea that they are somehow in a close relationship with them. I’ve noticed that it’s mostly the Korean fans too because we are aware that relationships and intimacy is more conservative in Korea. Western fans are more lenient with this because to us, it’s not a ‘scandal’ at all. You’ll notice this when you watch second generation groups, but interaction between males and females were sincere and they were enjoyable (like big band and 2NE1, tvxq, shinee, super junior, girls generation etc.) these groups were the groups that everyone liked male or female. Jokes about girls and relationships weren’t awkward or such and they wouldn’t be ‘cancelled’ or stuff like that anymore. Now it’s become boring when an idol looks at another and a scandal just pops up. It’s sad too because these are all beautiful, talented people surrounded by other beautiful talented people. It’s the best dating pool I’ve ever seen and they can’t even experience it.

@@littleheavenpg I think what made 2PM different in this sense is that they had been through so much crap together and showed through their actions that they really are that close. Hottests never really had to worry about in-fighting or bullying. The piems themselves frequently and openly talked about their brotherhood in both group and individual interviews. Even other celebrities have commented on their close bond before.
