Christopher was so emotional in watching them. I love how Julie and Chris looked at each other. if I didn't know any better I would have thought that they are husband and wife in real life.

Hauntingly beautiful! I remembered my mom bringing us to watch the movie and we stood for hours just to get inside the movie house. Then she made her grandchildren watch the betamax everytime they all came to visit her. She's gone now, but i still clearly remember how she loved and made us love this timeless classic.

I just love this. Their version is so pure and gentle, and it's just so touching having the clips from the movie and the home movies playing behind and showing the reactions of the cast. For anyone who grew up with this movie and the record (and many did!) who are also now much older, this is so nostalgic and sentimental. This was one of my favourite Oprah shows and this ending was perfect. Brings a tear to my eye!

I agree that the look Julie shot Chris was lovely and moving. I will admit to almost shedding a tear when hearing the grandkids of the kids who did make a break for it out of Austria (and not into Switzerland, as the film suggests, but into Italy, as, if you look at a map, you will see that from Salzburg, if one went west, over the mountains, they would have landed right in Munich but due south, Italy). Very moving moment for me, though not sure why, just was. Very sweet.

The Sound of Music is indeed based off a real Von Trapp family, where a young postulant named Maria was sent as governess to the house and ends up becoming part of the family, and they did indeed flee Austria to escape the Nazi rule. Of course facts and details are changed in the musical, but the basic story holds true.
