I've seen a group of seniors reacted to this song a while ago and they were like :"They look creepy, it scares me, there's no melody, it's garbage......". And these 2 ladies actually listen to the song and watching the video closely. They are drawn into it. That surprises me. 😊

To give you some information about the song: Actually they wanted to name it 'Suicide'. Their record label didn't want that, because it came out right after 9/11 in 2001. So they made a wordplay. "Selfrighteous suicide" is a line in the song and it souds a bit like Chop Suey. So the song has nothing really to do with the dish. 😊 I think the lyrics describe an everyday situation about a depressed person. I think that person feels being blamed for his/her feelings. Maybe there is domestic violence. "Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup". Then they relate it to the bible. "Father into your hands I commend my spirit", and these were the words Jesus said to god when they crucified him. You could say Jesus committed suicide as a sacrifice for whole mankind. So a selfrighteous suicide.

The album came out on September 4th, a week before 9/11 and the song was already called Chop Suey at that point. The rest is spot on tho :)

No mention of Chop Suey in the song, and thus reminds me of the song by A Perfect Circle called -Judith.

@@LanceLust1980HugeTheWarningFan Judith is a song about (or rather, to) Judith Marie, Maynard James-Keenan's mother. So even though they never say Judith, that song has much more to do with its namesake than this one.

I had a great unforgettable moment to this song. I was at a concert over over 2000 people and between the sets while the next band set up and this song came on. The whole arena was singing together especially the soft singing part. It was a transcendent experience for sure
