Lots of false history. Bending the truth is not history. Lat Jor was granted asylum by Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndooofeen fa maak Juuf. In fact, the king of Siin Kumba Ndoofeen was well known for that by the French. Whenever an African king has been defeated and exiled by the French., the King of Siin gave them asylum so much so that, the French governor used to annoyingly refer to Kumba Ndoofeen as "king of kings."These Senegambian kings were all related if not by blood by marriage alliances. In fact, Lat Jor used to refer to Kumba Ndoofeen as uncle. After granting Lat Jor asylum, whom by the way was well received in Siin just like Alhaji Umar Taal who visited Siin several decades earlier, Lat Jor then resulted to asking Kumba Ndoofeen to lend him his army so he could go to war against the French in order to get back his throne. At that time, Kumba Ndoofeen was already involved in a bitter struggle against the French relating to the sovereignity of Joal (one of his principalities) and therefore was unable to lend any army to anyone as he needed his men for fighting against the French. In fact, it was because of Joal why the king of Siin was assasinated in 1871 by the French following the Battle of Longandeme. In any case, for that reason, Lat Jor had to seek assistance from Maba. The information being narrated here by the Gambian lady is not completely factual. Also, one of the descendants of Maba in Senegal told us about his campaign against the king of Saluum Maad a Saluum Kumba Ndama Mbooj - but he told us only half of the truth. He didn't tell us that the Muslim marabout sect launched jihad and started killing many of the Seereer population, and in revenge Kumba Ndama retuned the favour by killing them. It does not make sense for the King of Saluum to start killing them for no reason at all. What did they do for the king to lauch war against them? Of course the man didn't want to shed light on that but simply glossed over it. They kept launching jihads in Seereer country and tried to Islmaize or enslaved them. The Seereer being a people who were extremely devout followers of their ancient traditional religion refused to submit to foreign religion - Islam, and even when defeated in battles they rather killed themselves than be captured or converted or worst enslaved. Must I remind them the historic jihads in Seereer country where the Seereer committed mytrdom in order to preserve their honour? Have they forgotten the battle of Ngaye, the battle of Nanjigue, the mayhem at Tahompa, etc. etc. etc.? I can go on but let's not. The Seereer people chose death than be forcefully Islamized or enslaved. Oral history can be valuable if it is told truthfully without people trying to posh their own agenda. In the end, you are cheating the younger generation and the next generation from the true history. The sad thing is, people are so lazy to cross reference what they've been told with scholarly works and official documents in the archives. They simply prefer to watch videos without doing their own research in order to find out what they are being told is correct or not. And for your information, Saer Maty Ba died on 23 Dec 1899 in the Gambia. Further, it was thanks to the Gambian elder at the time Tafsir Kara Jabou Samba (grandfather of Alhaji Babou Samba) why Saer Maty was able to come to the Gambia. At Albadar, Saer Maty sent a messenger to Tafsir Kara Jabou (one of the supreme elders) to plead with the British governor on his behalf so that he and his party could enter the country. Tafsir Kara Jabou was one of the leading elders in Gambia at the time, and the Samba family have been in collaboration with the Ba family since Maba and Alhaji Omar Tall as I will explain below. It was because of Tafsir Kara Jabou Samba why Saer Maty was allowed to enter the country - as Tafsir Kara went to the British governor's office in the Gambia and reminded him of the treaty of Njie-Njie that Maba had signed with his predecessor to grand his son asylum if he is defeated in battle by the French administration in Senegal or by the Seereer people of Siin and Saluuum whom he was waging jihad against. After Kara reminded him of that treaty, he also told the British governor that Maba's son iis now at Albadar waiting for permission to enter the country. The British governor aproved it and gave Tafsir Kara his private boat with a driver to go and collect Saer Maty. It was Tafsir Kara Jabou accompanied by Imam Njie who went to pick up Saer Maty and his party and bring them to the Gambia. This family (the Ba family) do not even know their history or are more interested in covering up the facts. I am shocked that they did not even mention the Samba family of Banjul. Not only did Saer Maty and his party enter the Gambia thanks to Tafsir Kara Jabou who negotiated their entry, but Tafsir Kara Jabou's own elder brother Tafsir Sa Loly Jabou Samba was the military advisor, commander and strategist of Alhaji Omar Taal, who later introduced him to Maba Jahou Ba himself when he left for Mali. Tafsir Sa Loly Jabou served as Maba's commander, military advisor and strategist and have entered every single battle that Maba had entered, and on one occasions during the Soninke-Mwarabout Wars, saved Maba's own life. He was the great uncle of Alhaji Babou Samba. I am shocked that this family (the Ba family) do not even know their family history or are playing ruse. Also, the guy told us that Maty Njie (mother of Saer Maty) was related to the Bourba Jolof (king of Jolof) but did not tell us how and which Bourba Jolof he was referring to. There are so many Bourba Jolof, so which one and how? He missed that one. Also, they told us that the Princess of Saluum Jouka Saidy was the mother of Wal Jouka (Saer Maty's son), but they did not tell us how and why Saer Maty came to marry the Princess Jouka Saidy and had a child with her. Further, in this video or the other one relating to this family, they mentioned that the Princess of Siin Selbe Ndoofeen Joof (daughter of the King of Siin Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndoofeen Fa Maak Joof) was married off to Maba's brother Abdoulaye Olimata Huma. However, they failed to tell us how the Princess of Siin came to be married off to her family's arch enemy. Must I disclose the facts surrounding these marriages and the King of Siin's action when he defeated Maba's army at the Battle of Fandane-Thioughtioune (commonly known as Somb) on 18 July 1867? Would you liked me to tell what he did to Abdoulaye Olimata Huma when he captured him in the battle field? They keep telling us that the Seereer people have now accepted Islam which was what their ancestor Maba was fighting for. That is not the whole truth. Maba was lauching jihads against the Seereer Kingdoms of Siin and Saluum to have them Islamized as well as for his own economic power. I can also tell them that the Seereer only started to convert in masses in the 1950s and as recently as the 1990s. Therefore, their conversion had nothing at all to do with Maba who fell at Fandane-Thioughtioune in 1867. To the contrary, their recent conversion was mainly due to Amadou Bamba's none violence approach. If the Seereer had repelled the great Almoravid army since the 11th century, and one of the greatest sons of the Seereer tribe Ama Goddo Maad (may his name live for ever upon our very lips) killing the renown Almoravid leader Abu Bkr when they tried to lauch jihad in Seereer country, there was no chance in hell that Maba would succeed. The Seereers of the yearter-years where strong believers in their ancient religion/spirituality and would die to protect their way of life. If the great Almoravids couldn't do it when they faced the great Seereer lamans in the battle field along with their armies, Maba stood no chance of getting them to convert through the use of force and violence. As the Senegalese historian and author Iba Der Thiam once wrote, I quote: "Maba Diakhou, the fighter of the faith died in the land of Sine without ever managing to Islamize the country deeply rooted in centuries old belief. The glorious epic of Islam in the land of Senegambia did not spread to "Ceddo" (Animist) Sine, who were determined to reject forever the religion that threatened the faith of their forefathers and to rule their lives in defiance of their customs. The Sine is an impregnable bastion of the anti-Islamic." As anyone who knows the history of the region knows pretty well that the Seereers were renowned for committing mytrdom when defeated in battle rather than allowing others to capture and Islamized them or even worst enslaved them. They live their lives by a strong code called "jom" (honour) that was strange to their enemies. This family do not even know their family history. Terrible! Even worst, I'm shocked that none of them including the family branch in the Gambia mentioned the Samba family who have collaborated with their family since Maba - all the way down to Imam Alhaji Momodou Lamin Ba and Alhaji Babou Samba. Terrible!
