I find a very cool 1981 Yamaha MX 175. These bikes are pretty rare and hard to come by in this complete all original condition. The bike has been sitting for years and doesn't run. Can we save it? #Yamaha, #MX175, #DirtBike,

Your channel has been a real blessing to me, I found your channel by 'accident' a month ago and have been watching your videos of restored vintage dirt bikes, my story is that when I was 13 going on 14 I started riding dirt bikes and I rode until 18 but after HS I was in a street bike accident that left me unable to ride and after college, yes I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology also, I figured that I would never experience riding a bike again but your Go-Pro rides are an opportunity for me to once again get back behind the controls and hear the bikes that I loved, I'm now 59 and doing the math you'll note that I rode in the mid to late 70's so muscle cars and dirt bikes were my childhood. BIG Thank You

This frame size was used for the 90/100cc dual purpose bikes sold in late 60's ~ early 70's. This engine is the MX125 with a larger diameter piston. Back in early 70's, more 100's were sold than 125's. The small frame size and mild engine tune provided a very welcoming machine for Yamaha dealer salesman to demonstrate to the many thousands of American first time motorcycle buyers. I have a Yamaha 1981 DT175h. My first bike was a 1970 Suzuki TS90 Honcho.

I really enjoyed the one I had, it was given to me by a hay farmer I was working for as payment one month. It was clean as a whistle just bad oil pump. Had it for bout 4 years, sold it to a kid in next town over, still running today. He brings it to me to service on occasion, kinda warms the soul to see her now and then.

Nice find! Years ago I bought a few bikes that had the slide stuck open. When I checked for spark, it pulled a LOT of crud into the cylinder. Now when I'm looking at a bike, I check for basic compression. Kick it over by hand. When I get home, step one...clean out the air box! Keep on wrenching! Great channel!! J

My second bike was an 82 MX 100. I loved riding that little bike, it was an awesome trail cycle. When i bought it in the early 90s the gentleman had it sitting in his dining room. It was in awesome shape with just some rust in the tank. I wish I still had it for my kids when they get a little bigger.

Really good running little bike! Didn't take much time to get it going. You might be able to soften the petcock seal by letting it soak in automatic transmission fluid. But get a new seal coming to be on the safe side. Thanks for your time and videos.

These are really cool old bikes. Ive worked on quite a few 70's 2-strokes and found that most of them needed the pipe to be "de-coked". It made an amazing difference if the tune just always just out of reach.

Every time I watch you put the plug on the head and kick it over to check for spark, it reminds me of my buddy. This was around 77. We were riding out bikes in the woods a few mile from our houses. He had a yz 80. It quit on him. After kicking a while with no result, he took the plug out and set it on the head to kick it and see if it had spark. He couldn't see any spark so he had the bright idea to hold the plug while I kicked it. It definitely had spark. We cried for minutes from laughing so hard at him. Turned out to be out of gas.

I've been riding a DT125MX (essentially this bike, but street legal) for 2 years as my daily transportation, including a 200-mile trip while moving in for college. Worker flawlessly. I decided to sell it to some collectioner, because the parts were expensive, and it was in dire need of visual restoration. A very good bike indeed, and a practical one too.

That oil pump has parts missing. There should be a round plate (washer) held with a nut on that threaded part. You should also have some shims in there that set the pump plunger stroke. Leave the fuel tap rubber in petrol overnight. Sometimes they just dry out and shrink and you can get them back.

Cool bike! I remember when I was a kid my brother traded a 1976 KX125 for a 1978 MX175, he was thinking the extra 50cc would help him beat 125 Elsinores. I'm pretty sure he regretted that move.

I was so excited to finish up a project I had purchased. Got an older Craftsman Riding mower... I did a quick run down off all the issues. Checked to make sure it ran. Painted the body of it to make it look nice and purty! Well. was rebuilding the carb and the tip of the float needle broke off! It was that rubber one. Well. A new one was about the same price as the rebuild kit. So... Cheap carburetor on the way and i can almost wrap it up (Few spindles for it and repaint the deck) Then I should have a mower that'll last me a few years at least.

I had a 100 and a 175. In my opinion it's better than the IT 175 because its smaller so it has a much tighter feel plus the gearing is higher. I love the old Yamaha's because you can interchange parts from so many different models! They were thinking when they manufactured their bikes back then!!

One of the best things about a 2 stroke is there extremely simple. It's 100 percent combustion no valves just compression and power. A piston cylonder and a spark plug. When the blow anyone could rebuild one.
