UPDATE: I've been playing my PS4 Pro for a few days since upgrading, and there are noticeable differences everywhere. From in-game menu loading/speed and world loading, to hitching and frame drops, and finally to the home screen responsiveness, this drive completely eliminates all of it. Very worth the $200. Plus, an extra 1TB of storage helps as well. I reccomend this upgrade!👍🤘😎 Just got my Samsung 870 QVO 2TB in the mail. Gonna upgrade my console since finding a PS5 is pretty much impossible right now.

Cool video! I got a PS4 slim in December 2019 (yes, very late, I know) and a week later I got a 2TB Samsung SSD (same as yours, but 2TB) and installed it. Took me about half an hour total from removing the original 1TB HDD and installing the ssd. My boot times are significantly quicker and my GTA V loading times are about halved. Overall having the 2TB was the best thing I could do since the PS4 only has two USB ports and I always keep a keyboard plugged in, and a charger for my controllers. Admittedly I am worrying about the heat exposure for the SSD but after 5 months it runs just as solid as day one even though I play every day. 11/10 would recommend to anyone who can afford the price

One thing to keep in mind. If you're playing with friends with the default drive, you won't be able to load into any map until everyone does so it makes the upgrade worthless unless you're talking about solo gaming. This happens when people have ps5 games that are still on ps4 and there's people on both platforms in the same team.

I can confirm that the load time improvements mentioned in the video above match each title and at times even come in a second or two faster. A potential reason why horizon zero dawn loaded so much quicker compared to the rest is due to the high-speed cache on the SSD. Since it was a fresh install more of the game would have been still stored there. Loading another game and resetting would put all the games on a more natural playing field. Not saying it the video needs an update or anything but just an FYI.

For everyone else who has upgraded theirs- what size device did you do the backup to? Sony recommends 2x the storage of the hdd you’re replacing?
@rhydlew9 ай бұрын
The reason for that is the lack of TRIM support. By overprovisioning with a larger drive you go longer before hitting write slow downs from write amplification and trimming. Many claim "modern SSDs have garbage collection" yes they do, but if they aren't filesystem aware they won't know what is garbage. It's a bit like having the ability to defragment, but never using it

Just got my 1st paystation4 pro, got the Crucial ssd to load, I am 70 yo, I can use all the help I can get. I want to just slip it in and use a ubs to finish it up, but having hard time using usb. I would think it would much simpler to do this operation then the new sss is empty, the hhd has the info, why cant they just transfer one to the other.
@Jiggs224u3 жыл бұрын
When you format the USB (Make sure it has nothing important on it, because it will be erased) make sure to format it with FAT32. Also You need to create two folders in all caps. Then you need to place the update file that you download into the correct folder. It's not too bad to do. If you want to backup and restore your saved games and data then you need an additional external USB drive with enough storage. You can do the backup under settings, then restore when you have the new hard drive installed with the new operating system.

Is there much point when the PS5 is just around the corner?....I mean an ssd drive still isn’t cheap, a Samsung 860 QVO is £100 for a 1TB drive,
@Specialist74 жыл бұрын
Yes and No, you could have slow loadtimes till PS5 comes out or you can have faster load times now lol I guess something to last you a while... You don't have to get a Samsung 860. 1TB is cheap nowadays. I sold my 960GB Toshiba drive to a friend and he put it in his PS4 Pro just fine, I sold it to him for $50 lol but besides the point, you can use any brand SSD, it doesnt have to be Samsung if you're concerned about price.

@@Specialist7 No & no Although a ssd will work in a ps4, The ps4 doesn't have the capability to benefit from the faster read/write speeds of a ssd Btw my ps4 pro has an 860 1tb Samsung SSD inside atm
@Specialist74 жыл бұрын
@Lina Morgana They wont be using SATA SSD but both the PS5 and Series X will be using NVME SSD so much more speed and bandwidth than regular so while like all computer parts will have revision, spec-wise it's pretty beefed up so it'll all depend on the software from here on out.
@Specialist74 жыл бұрын
@@outlawgmr Even if you're going SATA 2 vs SATA 3, going from HDD 5400/7200rpm to SSD will make a good difference. Check this video and others as well as reviews online of countless users shaving off a good amount of time off their loadtimes. It will also depend on the game as some games have their loadtimes embedded onto the loading screen as previous generation consoles have shown when replaced with SSDs. Not only does SSD reduces load times but it also reduces some noise and heat. Even some SSHD shows some benefits over a regular HDD as once loaded a few times on cache it will load a little bit faster. Now PS5 may be a different story as it will use NVME SSD as opposed to SATA SSD and then once developers stop hard coding loadtimes onto loading screens then it can load as fast as PC games #pcmasterrace but if you're not seeing the benefit of an SSD over an HDD on your PS4 then thats unfortunate. So to answer the previous question, is there much point when the PS5 is around the corner? Yes for better load times and enjoying your games faster. If its going to cost you an arm and a leg then no, its best to save up for the PS5 when it comes end of the year? also expect it to be priced slightly higher than last gens MSRP as the specs are slightly beefier... well.. by beefier the performance should be like last years AMD Zen 2 and NVME pushed by PCIE4, should be interesting though.

For everyone reading this, look PS4 Pro SSD guides online as I've just learned that the PS4 Pros architecture/hardware can only make use of 220MB per second. So they fully recommend ONLY the entry level SSDs. They are already faster than what the PS4 Pro can make use of, so there's no need to spend extra on faster SSDs. They get their benefits on PC architecture/hardware. Definitely worth the £99 by the looks of things!

try booting up in safe mode and rebuilding database. turn it completely off. press and hold the power button until you hear the 2nd beep. hardwire your controller and go to the 4th option I believe. rebuild data base might say it’ll take 3hrs but it’s usually a few minutes or so. that’s how long mine took on a ps4 with stock HDD. it sped up my ps4 by quite a bit. I recommend doing it at least once a week. hope it helps
