@@ghostrunner2138 Freestyle rules require the referee to put someone on the shot clock after 2 minutes if the score is 0-0. You cannot have a 0-0 score at the end of the 1st period. This basically just stimulates the action. Although the shot clock can sometimes seem arbitrary, especially to people who aren't familiar with how FS passivity works, in reality it almost never makes a difference in the final outcome of the match since takedowns are worth 2 points and even a pushout is worth 1 point. For example: If Red gets put on the shot clock and Blue scores 1pt as a result, all Red needs to do to win the match is a single takedown (2-1 score) or even a pushout (1-1 score, but Red would win on criteria). As I said, the shot clock very rarely makes a difference in the final outcome of the match, which is why a lot of wrestlers just ignore it, as Dake did here.
@jsl8461
@jsl8461 4 ай бұрын
Freestyle passivity calls strongly favor the wrestler holding the center and they do not favor the wrestler circling on the outside. It's always easier to take down someone who isn't retreating, and freestyle rules are designed to encourage standing your ground in the center (ie, taking risk), and discourage backing away (generally a safer strategy). Another factor in freestyle passivity calls is that whoever has a strong control, such a front headlock or a deep underhook (such as the one that Dake got at 1:03), is expected to be offensive. Backing out when you have a strong control (as Dake did) might be viewed as passive, especially when the score is still 0-0. Finally, in this scenario, no one was an aggressor because no one was scoring. As FS coaches always say, if you aren't scoring, you're being passive.

Passivity calls seemed fair. I think he got his first passivity probably because he didn't show any activity when he had his deep underhook -- no circling footwork, no level change, no attempts to throw by or snap down or push-out, etc. Referees want to see you moving the opponent around from there, they don't want to see you staying static when you have the dominant tie. I think he got his second passivity because he cleared a few ties and kept backing away, which will often get you hit with passivity in any match. Anyways, Dake is an amazing wrestler, his scrambling ability and that gut wrench were beautiful to watch.
@dannyd666
@dannyd666 3 жыл бұрын
@@jsl8461 Trying to understand these rules. It looked like Dake was trying to set up a takedown the entire first period; his underhook didnt work, so he broke it off but he kept level changing and looking for shots. I didnt see Chamizo do much of anything but defense. Why wouldnt Chamizo be the 'passive wrestler'?
@jsl8461
@jsl8461 3 жыл бұрын
@@dannyd666 It's subjective and I'm not an FS referee or anything. But at the end of the day the officials MUST put someone on the shot clock if no points are scored by the 2:00 mark, and it could have been either Dake or Chamizo as neither of them took a single committed shot. That being said, just my personal opinion, I thought it was the right call. A few things to keep in mind: 1) Breaking a tie up and backing away is usually viewed as passivity. Dake did this a few times so I'm not surprised he got put on the clock, and neither was one of the commentators. 2) In the underhook, Chamizo got hip-to-hip on Dake twice whereas Dake just tried to pull the head down. Getting hip-to-hip is usually perceived as more active than pulling on the head -- it is riskier and more likely to result in someone getting taken down. 3) Level changing, feinting, etc without taking a committed shot is NOT considered activity. In fact, feinting and then circling away (without any shots) is sometimes considered passive. Also, just FYI, the referee issued several verbal instructions regarding fingers. The video is not clear enough for me see what's going on, and as far as I can tell, it could have been red, blue, or both. But I just want to point out that if one wrestler is perceived to be interlocking or grabbing fingers more than the other, then that is usually considered passivity (once again, I'm not saying that was the case here -- I simply can't tell from the video).
@chadh6855
@chadh6855 3 жыл бұрын
@kellyjohna passivity calls are weird nowadays, because of no overtime and tiebreaker rules. In a tied match the last person to score usually wins by tiebreaker. Because of this they usually call the aggressor for passivity in the first period and then the nonaggressor for passivity in the last period, so the aggressor has the tiebreaking advantage in the end. In this case they didn't need to call Chamizo for passivity in the last period because he was behind. If Dake was behind in the last period they would've called Chamizo for passivity and probably given Dake a point in the end, a tiebreaking point if it was tied.
@jsl8461
@jsl8461 3 жыл бұрын
@@chadh6855 I don't agree that they "usually call the aggressor for passivity" in the first period. This is simply not true. The mat officials do their best to call passivity on the person they think is being passive. It is subjective and not always predictable, but also follows certain unspoken criteria. In most cases, the person who takes more committed shots (ie, not feints), or in the absence of any shots, the person who is moving forward / holding center will usually be able to avoid getting hit with passivity calls. There are always exceptions of course -- for example, pushing someone with extended arms, blocking too much with your head, interlocking fingers or holding onto the wrist too much, etc will get you cautions even if you are moving forward.

Standard Take down is 2 points. There are also 3,4 and 5 point takedowns. I’m going to attach a link in a moment to help you learn the differences! A force out of bounds is 1. If you get put out on the “shot clock” for passivity and fail to score it’s one point to your opponent. A pin is an automatic win. A technical fall is leading by 10 or more points. Match is stopped then. Matches often end in tech falls because of leg laces and gut wrenches. There is no OT and ties. If it’s tied score goes to criteria winner. Person who scored last takedown. To explain that better I’m going to attach a video! I’m fairly new to freestyle myself!

Nope, it’s about establishing control, meaning you gotta be freed up and on top. If the other guy still has a chest wrap on your for example, he can still flip you. For example, I really don’t think Frank ever established control in the scramble when he sort of got on top for a second. I think the takedown should’ve gone to Dake, but then Dake doesn’t get the reversal either.

Good role model and kids should try to adopt/ emulate his work ethic. If you don't like him thats fine, but I really don't see him as cocky. They are both defensive wrestlers making it a classic low scoring match. Based on how they congratulated each other at the end I would say they have a great deal of respect for one another. Regardless of what the media wants you to think, or the pre- match scripted hype.

I think it's easy to make these comments from afar, but once you get to the highest levels of this sport it's not very easy to just "go for the kill". he might've been playing it up a bit or using that as a bluff, but he was definitely gassed at the end there and even when you get deep in a shot on Kyle Dake, he's probably going to chest wrap suplex you. I do agree that neither of these guys tend to be based in offensive wrestling overall say compared to a jordan burroughs or zahid valencia, but kyle dake is one of my favorite wrestlers to watch personally because he's so damn explosive but simultaneously demonstrates flawless technique. it's a thing to beholden

Scott Waters I like dake although in college he simply used to get a point and ride it out even when he was three times better than his competition... this tells me he only seeks to win and not dominate which nothing is wrong with but is very boring to watch. Chazimo is not aggressive he is a counter wrestler which means his style feeds into Dake style as oppose to if he were to attempt more shots instead of wait for the last 15 secs to go against a defensive king... if you know the man is a defensive beast you can’t afford to wait the last few secs to go after it you got to go for it in that last minute smartly not giving up points but aggressively if you want to win. Maybe he didn’t care if he won or not ijs, they were clearly gassed in the beginning of the 2nd period.
