I just wanted to say thank you, I followed the procedure just as you described and I was able to successfully Install OS X HIGH SIERRA on my MAC PRO 3.1 2008, its running great again, once thank you for demonstrating us on how its done.

Wow...Thank You ! It took awhile to get it right, but that was because I missed a couple of things the first couple of times. Hrutkay lays it all out. Other than the video card patch box being checked (unless you have those models) check every box that he has checked regardless of what comes up as a default. Definitely do the "recovery partition patch" because after you do the patch stage in "post install" you will have to go back in and boot from the recovery partition of Sierra to run "csrutil disable" I had issues until I did all of that in that order. If you don't select "partition patch" when doing the patch process in post install, then you have no way of disabling the csr because it has to be done in recovery mode.

after a few failed attempts it worked!!! my issue was trying to recover the old drive, which kept giving issues, my advice, just restart it fresh and keep the old system separate. i still have access to all its files, as i installed the new OS on a different partition of the drive. I may try to recover everything from it in the future so its all automatically the same in the new OS, but for now just happy i've got the 3,1 running High Sierra!

Is anyone else having problems shutting down or restarting their patched Mac? I click on either one and I get nothing. All is working fine in my mac pro 3.1 after the installation. Just one slight problem, the app Davinci Resolve stopped working, even after I did a clean install of this software. Probably is some problem with my ATI Radeon HD 5770. Does anyone know the solution for this issue?

Here's my scenario. I currently have a Mac Pro 1,1. Mostly stock. But as it sits, I can't do much with it anymore. My current plan: 1) buy 2009 Mac Pro. 2) Do clean install of El Capitan. 3) Upgrade firmware to 5.1. 4) Install High Sierra. Does that sound right? I mostly use my Mac Pro as an iTunes server. But there are other uses. What would be the best way (if any) if migrating the iTunes library, as well as other software/data?

I'm not having any luck booting up High Sierra on my Mac Pro 3,1 after running the Collin's Patcher tool. I installed the macOS onto a flash drive via the patcher tool, after rebooting onto it, I selected the external hard drive I wanted to install High Sierra, via the patcher tool, put after rebooting, the new external hard drive does not show up on the bootable stark up screen at all. Go the "No packages were eligible for install" error. Set the date using terminal as suggested but still receive the same error.

Thank you. I'm so glad I found this. I got HighSierra to work on my Mac 3,1 (an upgrade of an El Capitan clone HD). I haven't tested all my apps yet. The problem is that now my El Capitan drive that I've been using for a couple years now gets the circle cross symbol. Any ideas how I can fix this? No doubt there will be apps that don't work in HS and I'll need to use El Cap on occasion.

Like these videos you are making. Very informative. I'm wondering, since new GPU's like the RX480 (Polaris series) are now officially supported in High Sierra. Do they work flawlessly in the "patched" High Sierra on a 3.1? Or is there too many variables in the hack that would make it unstable?

I have a 10.11.6 El capitan dual 2.8 ghx, 3,1 mac pro, 32 GB of ram, 8 TB raid via Softraid (Already verified to run to High Sierra), 4GB Nvidia 680GTX, Windows 7 bootcamp, and in a few days, a Caldigit usb3 and esata card. Mission critical apps are Photoshop and Lightroom (2018 both) and FCPX, motion, compressor, all el capitan versions so they need high sierra to run the latest. I had my eye on FCPX new color grading tools. Curious if you or any of your audience has a 3,1 production machine on High sierra to report back long term use, such as it is for only a few months. I GET A CANCEL SIGN AFTER TRYING TO BOOT FROM DRIVE. WONT LET ME GET TO INSTALLER. Idk I you'll get this but . I have a (early)2008 Mac pro 3,1 with original graphics card (NVidia GeForce 8800 GT). After using patcher to put on my USB flash drive which Is the same USB flash drive I used to put my recent El Capitan osx on my 3,1. It doesn't work. I go to boot menu when powering on and it's recognized and so I click on it. It's supposed to boot. But instead of taking me to installer it gives me the cancel sign (circle with a line in it) and kicks me back to my El Capitan osx. Idk what the issue is. Any help please?!?

I dont think this works anymore. For whatever reason i get stuck at the beginning of install. 11min left. It used to work fine and now for whatever reason it just won't. I've done nothing different.

I have a mac pro 3,1 and it runs 800mhz DDR 2 ram. However, I am seeing a lot of upgraded Mac Pros 3,1 on KZfaq with extra RAM installed and nearly always, the about window is showing DDR2 667 Mhz ram. Can you explain why these would be showing 667 mhz ram, is it because it is cheap?

I was able to install the patched HS but when it cycled the power after install it has been stuck on the Apple logo screen with progress bar at 90-95%. Any suggestions on what to do?

Unfortunately it didn't work for me. After installing I had stepped away and when I returned the computer was off. When I powered on I got no chime, but the light came on, then it powers down. Nothing I do can get it to power on, chime on and power up. Sad, would have been nice. May sell it for parts. Was worth a shot!

First... make sure to not do what I did. Continue with out making a backup of all your files. I am on day 4 attempting this upgrade. I originally did the upgrade from El Capitan. I am running Mac Pro 3,1. Instal took about 14hrs. I did every step, after I did post patch and reboot it sat on progress bar for 6hrs. I tried to reset everything pram etc. still could not get past the progress bar. At this point I took the plunged and erased my hard drive and did a full reinstall this time it only took 8hrs to do the instal and post patch after reboot I am stuck on progress bar at 100%. I did all the reset prams and then did the erase cache with the post patch still stuck at the progress bar. I waited two hours then went into recovery mode and did first aid. Reset computer stuck on progress bar at 100% I’m about a hour into this step now. I will leave it over night in hopes somebody comments a fix if not back to the El Cap and a lesson learned.

I tried updating my 3,1 to 10.13.4 and got a kernel panic in the boot up. The progress bar got so far and then I got the spinning white progress indicator. luckily I had a clone of my system to boot into. I'm also having a problem with my patcher USB, I wan't able to reinstall from my USB, it would start to install then the screen would go dark grey/black. I've also been having problems creating the patcher with my direct OS downloads from the App store, including this latest update. sorry for all this, I've recently gotten rid of FB

I successfully installed El Capitan on my 1,1/2,1. With El Capitan, under preferences, I can choose the older 10.6.8 boot disk, and reboot under the older OS. But, under 10.6.8's preferences, it does not see the El Capitan boot disk as a viable boot device. Though I can option-r on power up, and boot to it just fine. Question, is this fixable? Or will I simply have to live with it?

I've used Dosdude1's to successfully upgrade to High Sierra 10.13.3 with Radeon 7950 Mac Edition, works great, but my graphics card won't work with 10.13.4-10.13.6. I've saved my System Extensions from 10.13.3. Any suggestions to get my Radeon 7950 to work with 10.13.6?

Now after installing high sierra on my hard drive I cant get my mac to boot back into the installer (thus I cant use the patchier) and every time I boot up the computer it turns off after 30 seconds. I've installed Mojave and using it quite a while now. But I can't use my versions of Adobe products with Mojave anymore. So I decided to go back to High Sierra, because Adobe was running on that. Fortunately I was using a second drive. The Problem is, I can't migrate from my actual drive (Mojave) to the new installed (High Sierra). Is there any work around? Or is it just the different file systems? Mojave is obviously APFS and High Sierra is HFS+. Any suggestions?
