Oh absolutely. Japan has some of the best engineers and they constructed these to sway like this. Most highrise buildings are made like that, with spring-like (if not springs) constructions holding them up, taking the bulk of energy from earthquakes and wind that would otherwise make the building collapse if it was completely solid.

Thanks for the upload, wow that's scary and unbelievable at the same time.
It's beyond amazing, you can imagine it was back in 2011 and these buildings handled the magnitude 9.0-9.1 megathrust. Huge respect to the japanese Engineers 🙏🏻

Since the epicenter was very far away from Tokyo, it experienced only a magnitude 7.0 earthquake

@@cvk4488True but the earthquake itself lasts 5-6 mins .. it was still very impressive
Incredible engineering. I wonder why it seems to be quiet in the building where shot was taken-at least you can hardly any noise, even the voices seem louder.

this building is normal. such skyscrapers are built when big earthquake break, the building absorb the impact by the building waving. if there is not such waving, there will be the danger of collapse.
this video is spectacular as you can see how the other buildings move .... we must be prepared for earthquakes occur unexpectedly in the world and needs to happen
We had experienced a lot of earthquakes since unknown days. Our engineers called quake resistance design as soft architecture. In the center a pillar like pendulum is put up without solid foundation and surrounded by walls. I think you are correct.Someone told Horyuji the oldest wooden building in the world already had this design.
