You can also achieve this effect by making the initial temperature negative (causing it to sink).

I encountered a couple of issues trying this. I'll keep experimenting/practising, but one issue was that the smoke did not colide with the stairs (I think increasing the Surface Thickness on the Physics tab of the stairs helped). The other issue was that your smoke look thick and powdery. My smoke looked thin and whispey : (

why is my smoke pixelated? is it because I'm using 3.4 or there is settings for this stuff?

Select your smoke domain, go to the physics tab in properties, then Fluid > Settings > Resolution Divisions and increase that number. You can also set Fluid > Viewport Display > Interpolation from closest to linear.
