On my power meter fan heater 1049 watts 4.344 amps and 2068 watts 8.644 amps. So is the overloading 3amp fuse making the amps go higher not sure. The fan heater is fitted with a 13 amp fuse.

It is down to the power factor of the load that means a lower power factor draws more current for a given wattage. The meter says the power factor is 0.67 which means the load is not purely resistive, meaning power is wasted in the circuit - which in most magnetic ballasted fluorescent fittings is in the ballast itself, which is an inductive load. In an 1000W electric heater or an incandescent lamp, this is a purely resistive load so has a power factor of 1.00, so the formula for P = VI is true. 1000W = 240 X 4.16 or I = P/V Because the power factor is not 1.00 in the video setup, it is 0.67, then a certain amount of current is wasted to produce that 1000W of load in the ballast, so the formula in this case would be I = ( P/V ) / PF, that is I = ( 1014/240 ) / 0.67 I = 4.225 / 0.67 I= 6.31A However, on a domestic circuit the non - power factor corrected current used is not charged for by the house's electricity meter, so even though the power meter in the video said the circuit was using 6A - that is the current allowing for power factor losses. The electricity meter will charge for 1000W consumption irrespective of the actual current wasted by an inductive load. You can usually go into the menu for a smart meter and cycle through the values to show the true current used by the house compared to the current wasted in inductive loads - they are pretty clever how they work out what to actually charge you for. I think that's it in very simple terms - but power factor is a pretty complicated issue and in industrial settings, it is charged for - so companies usually have to add power factor correction to inductive loads like magnetic ballasts to make them closer to 1.00 than 0.67. They usually used a massive capacitor across the line in and out from the ballast as a power factor correction capacitor. Domestic fittings dont usually have these fitted.
