3 Are all risks bad?

Video 3 answers a really important question, correcting a common misconception. Risk must always be A Bad Thing, right? (Wrong!!)

Thank you for raising this concern. I have been aware of this problem since August 2018 and I have asked the video production team to try to fix it. Clearly they have not managed to fix it yet, and I'm very sorry about this. I will ask them to look at it again.

In my view, risk is something negative/ undesirable. Something positive/ desirable effect is not called risk.

Thank you Wunpawng. Your perspective is quite common, and a lot of people see risk as only negative. But this is not what the international risk management standards and guidelines say, and it is not what most major corporations and smaller business practice. There are a lot of benefits in broadening our view of risk to include both upside and downside, and it gives us a proactive framework for creating value as well as protecting value. I recommend that you explore this further and consider changing the way you think about risk.

But, isn't "positive risks" called "Opportunity" and not "Risk"?

Thanks for your comment. But I disagree - if we define risk as "uncertainty that matters", then some of them matter because the outcome would be bad (we call these threats), and some matter because the outcome would be good (we call these opportunities).
