Here are 3 basic rondo drills that every team must know.
The Rondo drill is a soccer training exercise that is designed to improve a team's passing and ball control skills. It involves a group of players forming a square, with one or two defenders in the middle. The players on the line of the square must pass the ball between each other while the defenders try to intercept the ball. The drill is designed to help players improve their ability to pass and control the ball under pressure, while also improving their communication and teamwork skills. It's a fun and challenging exercise that is often used in professional soccer training sessions.
Then the defender successfully intercepts the ball, they switch positions with the player who lost the ball.
For 10 consecutive passes, a penalty can be given to the player(s) in the middle. (For example 10 push-ups)
The square should be around 5 - 10 meters in height and width. All depending on the level of your team.
1v4 (The Barcelona Rondo):
The Barcelona Rondo is 1v4 in a square.
1v3 (The Liverpool Rondo):
The Liverpool Rondo makes it more difficult for the passing players as they have to move a lot more. It’s important that the move between different lines of the square.
2v4 (The Classic Rondo):
The 2v4 rondo is a classic rondo where 2 players defend against 4 attackers in a larger square compared to other rondos, due to the increased number of defenders.
