THIS STORY:
James Earl Chaney was one of three Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) field/social workers killed in Philadelphia, Mississippi, by members of the Ku Klux Klan. The others were Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner from New York City. This inspired the movie "Mississippi Burning".

THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

I actually have heard of that case before as I live and have grown up in the Carolinas most of my life. That story brought me to tears. That boy was a baby almost the same age as my son and I just can NOT understand why anyone would ever do such an awful thing to a child! I understand that back in those days in the south, that blacks had it bad.. but this was a child! I just can’t understand that and never will. But it is absolutely an important & interesting case for sure. Thanks for bringing that up.

Wow! I think my mouth hung open throughout the video lol. I had heard and read about the tragedy of the three missing civil rights organizers for most of my life, but to see the actual area was just awesome. You may have done the driving down south, but you took us along for the history lesson. For that I’m so grateful. More than that, the impact your walks through history has on viewers is lasting and, I hope, provocative. You make it so interesting, You educate so many viewers who probably have little or no prior knowledge of many of the facts you unveil. Thank you.

Debbie, it is truly quite easy! Once you refuse to see the truth, love and humanity regardless of race, origin, sex, religion, disability or any type of difference, it becomes very easy to hate. To deny that anyone other than those who are just like you are deserving of love, trust, companionship, fair play and honesty. For some reason there is something wrong with the eyes, brains and hearts of many people. They can only accept those like themselves. Anyone who is different does not deserve love, life or respect. Excuses are easy to make.

Brilliant story as always!! I've never heard this one or seen the movie. Racism is disgusting.!! It's amazing how different and difficult it was back then for people of colour. It still goes on today - and it shouldn't!! Everyone should get along.. and if you don't like someone - just ignore them and leave them be... I noticed a bit of a breeze at the end of your video, when you said you hope he's resting in peace... Hopefully he heard you!! Hope they're all resting in peace - in a better world. I was 8 when all this was going on, living in McComb, Mississippi, and like children who live in wartime and don't know peace, I thought all of this was normal. But even though I was young and ignorant the entire state was not full of hate nor was I. It only takes just enough who are filled with hate to define a state or nation. When I was born, my mother was too sick to care for me so my grandparents hired a wonderful black woman named Ada Lee Banks. She raised me like I was her own and so I carried that into life. The last time I saw her was in 1974 when she came by to say hello to her "son." Happily for her and her family, where she lived was bought for good money because a dam was being built next to her property. So she moved and both more land which, 10 years or so later, was bought for a fortune in order to build a mall on her land! The Mr. X is indeed known. He was a mafia hitman who often worked for the FBI as an informant. He was brought to Mississippi and found a young klansman working at a store and kidnapped him, then tortured him until he revealed the location of the graves. The hitman was Gregory Scarpa.

It was a sad dark time of American history with just getting to the point of the ending of racial oppression that Martin Luther kings leadership visions was being what we thought was going to be a turning point though we thought but though racial equality occured thankfully the hatred still strongly divides a lot of people today and sorry to say but from both sides African Americans upon whites and whites upon African Americans alike. However, thankfully there is overall less hatred but still way to much. I am.white however I have African Americans in my biological family who live in Indiana and 40% of my family are carribibian Indians also from former slaves taken from Africa who I would defend with my life on a moment's notice , each and everyone of them. I love them all. It's a shame that the hatred still goes on today from both sides however. May the boys rest in peace 🙏 💔

Why do blacks call them self's AfRICA American? White people don't call them self's English or Germany or Chinese American We are all American. By calling yourselves Africa AMerican you are setting yourself apart ......we just need to love each other not let people try to use our color against us like what's going on now WAKE up before its to late we will not have a country I am a older person and just don't understand why people can't see this our freedoms are being taken away its hard to believe the Whitehouse is off limits to its own people and no one is saying anything YOU can not go to church or out to eat or even talk to a bunch of friends because the asshols in office says you can't can you imagine telling people a hundred years ago they could not do this they would kick some big shots asses its time to think for yourself not some talking heads on TV all telling the same lie's

I’m so sad for those young men. I’m so glad my parents taught my siblings and I, that we are all God’s Children. We did not hate anyone. This truly sickening. I hope whoever did this, when they met their maker gets what they deserve. May they RIP ❤️🙏🏻❤️

It's interesting that while our state got a very late start on racial reconciliation, we now have very little problem with getting along. I've lived here all my life. When I was a child the idea of living in a neighborhood that had both black and white home owners was unheard of. Now, it's just no big deal and nobody pays the slightest attention to who lives where.

I was born in 1963 and we learned about this in school later .. In Greenland. I also remember the first time we had a visitor of African American descent in our village - We'd never seen "The people of the black land" (as they are called in Greenlandic). This gave one of our teachers this great idea to inform us about America and the racial problems. We were kids, but could relate to it since we as Inuit also met those kind of whites in our own country. Today (2024) it's disturbing to know that as late as yesterday the supreme court INCLUSIVE an African American judge rule FOR the gerrymandering of black voters in the south. I was once in the Everglades and met whites that act exactly as they did in the 60s - I was told to step out from a store because I looked native - Well aware of these cultures I knew how to avoid problems. Disgusting culture that will not disappear any time soon.

I have to wonder what the purpose is to have the vaults on top instead of in the ground. Its quiet intriguing. Thank you so very much for sharing the history of these persons. I love the tours that you present to us. From Edmonton, Alberta Canada

Graves are on the surface for many reasons, huge boulders underground, high water tables, and just to keep the ground from obviously sinking as the caskets, etc... decay.

It's a sad story on these three boys losing their lives at a young age. It almost seemed that they were set up being released from jail at night. May their souls rest in peace. Ron, I found info why burial vaults are above ground thought you might like this. This could pertain to Mississippi also. Burial plots are shallow in New Orleans because the water table is very high. Dig a few feet down, and the grave becomes soggy, filling with water. ... Eventually, New Orleans' graves were kept above ground, following the Spanish custom of using vaults.

thanks, yes I knew this for New Orleans, but for example in Columbia where Walter Payton's parents' graves are, or this one in Meridian, the water table is way way down lower, like 50 feet. there has to be another reason. These cities are way north of New Orleans. But I may be wrong, may be a custom started in New Orleans and they just copy.

I think I have seen this movie about three times. It's still hard to grasp the hatred in people, and the lengths they go to keep the hatred going. If you teach hatred from birth, it just keeps going, teach your children well. The people who killed these young men were cowards, they only kill when in packs. Thank you Ron, we need to keep this story alive, and many others also.

How many stories such as this "never" get reported. This poor boy's body was desecrated after death with such a violent demise then thrown into a pit while alive in beyond comprehensible to grasp. But then after being layed to rest we still have vandals come to desecrate his grave year's later is just horrific!!. He's now resting in peace but yet his headstone needs propping up,....what kind of disrespectful crazies would do such a thing is disheartening to think of. Allot of angry people out there that need serious help. Let the dead rest!!! 🙏 Love from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦♥️

Hi Ron. Being born in the UK i was never exposed to the slavery that went on nor did i have any exposure to the violence and civil rights movement. we didn't learn about it in school either. Since moving to Canada i have found out myself how whites treated the blacks in segregation or just in general. It has made me ashamed to be white. I love all nations people, except those who beat women or treat women as second class citizens. With todays thinking of equality and basic acceptance, tolerance and forgiveness. The bible tells us to be kind to our neighbours it doesn't mater what colour of the skin. I know it still goes on today. when it was still new to every one the civil rights should have been taught and measure taken to make sure these people, yes they are people like you and me, they didn't have to die that is taking things to the extreme. thank you for remembering these boys, they had their whole lives ahead of them, a brighter future they never got to witness the very thing they were protesting for freedom to choose and be respected for what they do, they are finally one of us. we still need to make sure these peoples who weren't just from Africa as many believed, they were taken from other nations too It breaks my heart when i hear stories like this so very sad. May God protect them and punish those who have murdered these boy who were good looking kids. Rest in eternal peace young ones.

I have watched "Mississippi Burning" several times and it never fails to stir emotions within me. Feeling enraged by the way these Civil Rights Workers who were there to register the black communities to have Voting Rights, being treated so horribly by the local towns white people, and the Law Enforcement Officers, the Mayor, and Judge, in this little town filled with such ignorance and hatred and the KKK members which the Sheriff and Deputies were members of. My heart broke for the way the black community was treated on a daily basis and of course for the 3 very brave Civil Rights Workers. Their murderers should have had much harsher sentences IMO. Thank you for sharing their story with all of us. Let Us Never Forget their sacrifices. May the work they started back in 1964, continue on making progress in Equal Rights. For everyone deserves acceptance and have equal rights here in the USA no matter what our differences may be... RIP
