3 BROKEN Robot Vacuums - But Can I Fix Them? I bought 3 broken robot vacuums from eBay to see if I could fix them. All three were Roomba vacuums and there were several different problems including one with a weird vibration/noise and one that had an error 31 issue.

The sensor error could be from the optical sensor under the vaccum that detect if the the vaccum is about to fall in a void like a staircase. When I put my roomba on a very dark rug, it's going backward like yours did and then it's giving me an error because the optical sensors think the rug is a void.

Roomba S9 had a manufacturing defect in some earlier production runs. It worked for a few weeks, then have random issues. Reset, it would work for a little while longer, then stop again. Always Error 31. Support never said which part was bad, but replaced the entire unit because it was defective straight from the factory.

I have a first generation Roomba that had a similar problem where it would only operate backwards then error out. The issue was a "cliff sensor" wire had come out of the wire race in the bumper and was cut when the robot bumped into objects repeatedly. Try inspecting the sensor wires, these late generation Roombas are really easy to tear down and diagnose compared to the very early ones.

At minute 8:07 on the chassis there is a metal thing that acts like a spring sort of...and it is getting weak, because of that the bumper stays closer affecting the sensors( I think .). I fixed my Roborock S7 by pulling that thing forward and putting some packaging foam behind it to keep it from going weak again . Considering that you changed and tried everything else this might be the cause.

1. I would love it if you could do a video fixing really old consoles like the PS1 or N64 or one of the saga systems! I think that it could be a really fun video to watch. 2. With that error on the vacuum? One thing to try would be to test every part in one off the working vacuums. Take on part from the broken one and put it in a working one until it stops working and then you have found the problem! Also you could try to google the error code to see what type of error it is that might help to narrow it down to a specific part or group of parts. Another thing to try would be to do a system update ( I f you can update those specific robot vacuums ) because sometimes updating them can fix some errors!

@The_hot_blue_fire_guy
@The_hot_blue_fire_guy 2 жыл бұрын
@@ErickBuildsStuff I did watch the whole video! My point was that if he couldn’t find what was wrong the first time he could systematically take on part from the broken one and put it in the good one and so on! It’s most likely that the problem isn’t the main circuit or the bumper thing but there are other parts he could test like the motor’s or there are probably more sensors that could be tested! As for the retro console repair idea. I have no idea how expensive parts are for old consoles like that I just thought it could be a fun interesting video because he does a lot of PS4 Xbox one and switch repairs so seeing him try PS1 or 2 consoles or NES SNES and N64 would be really interesting! He did do a original Xbox repair not to long ago so it might be worth it even if he won’t make any money from the repair!

@phil_tony_corky
@phil_tony_corky 2 жыл бұрын
Roomba error 31 is a comms error, the suggested fix is to hold clean button down for 20 seconds then the circle light bar will spin around white, once it stops it suppose to go into start mode. Doing a bit more net search there are different ways to fix error depends on series model, one says it's comms error with app. So could be problem with wifi antenna

Eyyy hall effect sensors. I was just buying some the other day for a project I'm working on lol. I'm guessing error 31 is some kind of software thing? Try easiest (if You didn't yet, bc it sometimes hapends to me, that easiest thing U can possibly imagine is wrong, and I'm trying for hours to fix something that's absolutely fine 😂) try continuity test on wires, mainly wires from motherboard to sensor board, if not, magnets still can be your problem, so after that I whould try to move everything from N.1 to N.2, I mean everything, even a vaccum motor, so You narrow it down to magnets only, if not, try swaping part by part, I mean You have 3 of them, You must take advantage of it 😂 Awsome video as always 😎 I like fact that You are challanging Yourself to repair other things like cameras, phones, laptops, that You never even seen before. Amazing 😇

I've repaired a bunch of robo vacuums and found that most often it is dirt clogging up the sensors. Especially on models where all the sensors (even the bumper) are some variation of optical sensors (eg the bumper is interrupting a light barrier when bumping into things). There's also the slight possibility that communication between the main board and the sensor board is somehow interrupted (actually unplugging it and starting the robot again should hopefully yield a different error code). It should also be able to tell if individual sensors aren't working, so unplugging those sensor cables should yield a different error code yet again (provided the communication betwen the boards is working).

Keep up the amazing work fixing all of these electronics. They were destined for the bin but your bringing life back into them. Just a suggestion, but don't know, Mabye the actual cleaning button is at fault, it did say a few times about the button being stuck or mabye it was saying to hold it down to hard reset it, either way, that might count as a sensor as the button is um (capacitive touch I think, though not quite sure if that's the right term) so mabye the sensor on the button is thinking that it's being pressed or something like that.

ah, those are hall sensors, aka magnetic-field sensors. When the vacuum comes in contact with a wall, one of its "bumpers" should recline, moving the magnetic closer to the sensor. This should generate some type of interrupt signal to (possibly) a microcontroller, let it know that "hey, this side of my body is right next to the wall" and then it probably signals the wheels to spin in opposite directions which causes the body to rotate counterclockwise or clockwise rather than rolling forward).
