Another great show ... in fact, my favorite thus far. Hard to believe, but just yesterday I deleted the Feisol/King Joy examples I sent you thinking Marcus wouldn't be using them! What a surprise to actually see them on the show. BTW, my Feisol is now a lamp stand!
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marvin. I don't think the Feisol you had was that bad, but those were extreme conditions. It's just that the Kingjoy A86 is a beast. Thanks for watching and thanks for the photos.
@Gazzab6
@Gazzab6 2 жыл бұрын
@Marvin Moriarty What model of Feisol did you have? I have the Feisol CT-3442 Tournament and have never had a problem with it. I live near the windy west coast of England and have done quite a few long exposures. It wasn't down to your ball Head was it?
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
@@Gazzab6 it was definitely the tripod Gary, as Marvin used his ball head in the Kingjoy. The Feisol legs were simply too flimsy.

@@PhotographyOnline Just because of this video I bought a Kingjoy K528. The A-Series is not available here in Germany and they cannot import it at the moment. Just for comparison the lower leg diameters: A86: 26mm, A85: 26,6mm, K528: 28mm. The upper diameters are also wider at the K528 at 39mm. The weight of the K528 is 2,18KG. I was in touch with the German distributor and after I was reassured that the K528 for 400 Euros has the same level of biuld quality as the A-Series (more differentiators were not provided) I ordered the K528. I was told that Kingjoy even thinks about merging the naming of different series. The first look and touch was very good. Solid materials, solid joints and a good height. After setting the tripod up to maximum height of 156cm I wanted to compare it to my other tripods. And there it was: a really big disappointment. Even at the lightest touch of a leg the whole tripod is wobbling heavily. You can even see it with your eyes and the resulting images are horrible. Nowhere near as stable as I expected. I made several shots with three tripods (Gitzo 5543LS, Gitzo 3540LS and Kingjoy K528) and the Kingjoy delivers the worst results. It might be that my "test-scenario" was not suitable but if you can see the whole thing wobbling after a slight push with your fingertip I do not have much trust in the camera support. I used the same head (Markins Q20i with BV-24) on all tripods and the same camera lens combination (Nikon Z7 with 1.8/85mm at F10 and 1/5th of a second, ISO100). The whole scenario was lit with a LEDGO 2880 LED Panel at 90% power and 5000K color temperature. I made one picture without touching the tripod and using a 1 second shutter delay. After that I made several shots with giving the tripod a touch with my fingertip from light to middle. The Gitzo 5543LS shows itself totally unimpressed whereas the Gitzo 3540LS started to show blurry images with the harder pushes - the lighter ones were acceptable. None of the Kingjoy images were usable. Maybe the A-series is better but my disappointment with Kingjoy is hughe. I will give them a call on Monday and probably will send the tripod back. If I was able I would post some pictures for comparison here. I will send you some via e-mail if you are interested.

@@BLITZgescheit Hi Peter. It would seem as though the German distributor wasn’t telling you the truth. Kingjoy have no intention of merging any models. The Aurora series was their only pro- spec range until the recent Solid Rock series was released. This will eventually phase out the Aurora series but not for a while. The K series is really nothing special - it is basically their OEM tripod which they mass produce for other brands. I wish you had asked me before buying the tripod. Marcus

Thank you for this! I've been photographing over 40 years and I use exactly the same techniques right down to the "joystick" ball head. At workshops, I could easily spot the amateurs who spend tons of money on camera gear but buy "toothpick" tripods. Once, there was this kid who bragged about his--then--new Canon 50D and tried to shoot waves on the beach, only to come back after half an hour with a totally soaked camera because his tripod folded under the weight of a 300mm f/4 lens! I have an ancient Manfrotto which serves me to this day. Bought it brand new in 1991!

I will be starting photography this week and have been reading through many websites andwatching lots of videos over the past few weeks to get a better understanding. This is the snobbiest video I have seen. So there is a caste system in photography, it seems. Thanks for being stuck up and denting my confidence before I have even started. What a great show .... as usual. A gift. So many good points and tips. I am prone to getting to a scene and dragging out my camera and starting to snap before I think about composition. When I listen to what I have been told time and time again .... get the composition first .... I end up with much better pictures and a lot less editing when I get home. That was a great reminder. Thanks so much for doing this - I know it takes work to make these things. Much appreciated.

Fantastic show!! I love your shows and always look forward to them. I learn something new with each and every show and always have my pen and notebook ready to take notes. This show taught me more about tripods than I ever knew and there is almost a full page of notes to show for it. When Marcus walked into the camera shop dressed as Harry I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I had to stop the video to wipe my face because I was laughing so hard I was crying. I loved the detail you went into in the kit comparisons and watching Harry "get a lift" from Marcus with that tall tripod. Watching the amount of help Nick was giving his client shows just how much you can learn from another photographer no matter how long you've been shooting. Your show is so entertaining as well as informative and I can hardly wait for the next one. By the way, I was one of the lucky (and very happy) Spudz lens cloth winners. It arrived last week and I can't wait to show it to my friends. Thank you for all the great information!!!

Very useful and fun video, I can’t believe this was the first time I’ve come across your channel. The first part on tripods was interesting, having recently returned from a photo trip to Cornwall with friends, it became apparent that a cheap tripod can be more of a hindrance, wasting valuable time and light. The budget camera piece was fun too but one thing to also consider here, especially given the environment, was clothing. I appreciate that in its self could be another video entirely but you can’t skimp on good wet weather gear and that doesn’t come cheap either, so that’s something else to budget for when going out into the wilds.

Great episode. One consideration on the Kit test is that I think was overlooked is build quality. A pro camera and lens will last far longer and hold up under extreme conditions MUCH better than the low and mid budget kits. For pros and amateurs alike this is a huge consideration when buying expensive gear. Cheers!

I really enjoyed the show. The segment on the tripods was excellent and the info is well presented, wish it was available to me earlier in my career! The episode with the various great setups at different costs was amusing, informative, and illustrative of the different captures. Quote of the show goes to the salesman, "You can leave it on P mode for Professional"! I think the boys need to swap and see how they each do with the different setups. I have been considering a workshop for years. While I am in the US and won't be able to travel overseas anytime soon it appears, it did encourage me to look into one a bit closer.

I'm still using the same Gitzo tripods that I've had for about 20 years. My main tripod is the G1325 which was the standard back in the day. I also have a G1548 which I used with a gimbal and 600mm lens. The gimbal and lens are long gone, but the tripod still does studio work. Never a minute of trouble from either tripod. I would agree, buy the best you can afford. Trade up if you need to. You won't regret it and a quality tripod will last a lifetime. The same applies to tripod heads. When I first started doing photography I had a Slik pistol grip head which I liked very much. These days I prefer Really Right Stuff heads. Nice to have professional looking photography shows on every month. Well done.

Just received my Spudz Lens Cloth, thanks guys! 4 weeks to get to Australia "Par Avion"! We are in a 5km lockdown in Melbourne again but luckily we have a park nearby with lots of birdlife and occasional wildlife.

Great video! Talking about the different budgets for gear, and specifically the birds in flight; if you are not used to shooting this kind of photography it is challenging, regardless of kit. I don't know what the other two shoot primarily, but the wildlife photog with the 5k kit would probably do very well with the 500 pnd kit. That kind of photography is learned. You could give the greatest landscape photog in the world all the kit he wants; his shots would be mostly rubbish the first few times he went out. MHO.

I love these shows and try to make sure I never miss any. I normally watch on a smart TV rather than this laptop because it has a larger screen, but that does mean that when you say "you can see this below" of course I can't, nor can I add comments. Otherwise I' d often be telling you more about why I enjoy your shows. I find all your shooting techniques and equipment reviews interesting, and for me your team has just the right mix of seriousness and humour. And I love the scenery too. Please keep the shows coming.

I was thinking of replacing my Benro tripod with something a bit more substantial so after seeing this video I took a punt and ordered the Kingjoy A86 Tripod. First trip out with it tomorrow but first impressions are good. It's a beast of a tripod.

Thank you the Spudz cloth. Came to me today here in Winnipeg Canada. Wish I had it last winter when I had to wipe snow my camera's lens with a face mask after a falling in snow. It will come in very handy.

Just found your channel, it's excellent. Once observation is, Marcus shows us undoing a tripod by twisting all locks, in other videos he does it each section at a time.

Hi Stephen.The twist locks need to be done separately when they are not together. They can only be twisted as a group when your hand can cover all of them. Thanks for watching and welcome to our channel.

Great Show, 1 on 1 workshop, and photoshoot in Scotland is something that really interests me. Looking forward to being able to travel again. I have got quite a few tripods sitting in a corner that I have gone through. Would have prefered to buy just once, however... we seem to enjoy doing things the hard way sometimes. I Have an FLM that I love, I just got that a few months ago. and a Benro for travel, both very sturdy.

I still use my old Slik 88 with a Linhof ball head. The low feature is great with a tripod connection on the leg that splays out. All aluminium, much lighter than my friend's Manfrotto.
