I have been putting 34-37 putts a round lately. A friend of mine and a good putter, gave me a lesson this morning on the putting green. He watched my takeaway and said keep it low and straight. That was it. Today I had 30 putts and 4 birdies on professional tournament course at Kingsmill in Williamsburg, VA. My friends advice works well.

My stroke had gotten too 'lazy' so the shorter follow through is giving me a firmer feel and I'm making those 3-4 footers again. Thank you.

I like the tee and dime drill. My key to making a good putting stroke is to rock the shoulders so that at impact my right shoulder drops and my left shoulder rises. In doing so it feels like my head is moving behind the ball
@josiahthornton9125
@josiahthornton9125 3 жыл бұрын
You can do that same thing inside on a yard ruler. If your face is open at impact the ball rolls off the ruler to the right if you are right handed. And the opposite if if the face is closed.

I like the dime drill. I can do this drill in my basement during the winter in PA. I also use the tee in the winter but use 2 2x4s pieces to see which one moves. I use the tee when I get to an outside putting green.

Hi , for me 60 :40 works well but my putt stops 4 to 6 to inches short of the cup ; if I do 50:50 , it over shoots the cup by almost 2 feet .

After watching your your lesson on reading the greens - finding the straight put it seem to me the Blue tee & the white tee were not in a straight to each other or am missing something.

Todd, isn't the Verticle Swing system essentially the same system Mo Norman has been advocating for a long time and isn't it the same system Bryson Dechambeau uses, even though he is far from an "Experienced" golfer?

Now I'm confused. I was taught shorter backswing/longer follow-thru (same as chipping and pitching) to make sure I accelerate thru the ball. How can the follow-thru be shorter than the backswing without decelerating?
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking, we are getting this question often today. The key is for the putter to be maintaining its proper speed through impact, that is most important. We have found the 60/40 is a better “feel” for most golfers. 👊

Due to back surgeries and scoliosis my hips are turned open at address. To counteract this I have recently begun to putt left hand low. When making the stroke should one hand or the other dominate?
@USGOLFTVshow

Good question, we like to see the trail hand be the dominant as it provides more feel and touch. Keep in mind there is always room for individual preference. 👊

Line on ball or not? I like the line to get feedback on stroke, but after lining up line to start desired line appears left, by several inches????! I commit to line and stroke putt, but it does bring in doubt, your thoughts?
@USGOLFTVshow

We like to use the line when training and practicing. On the course go with no line and more feel. Great question 👍

@@USGOLFTVshow Great answer! never really thought of doing that, although I abandon the line occasionally out of frustration of not seeing it correctly. Sometimes I put the line on the underneath side of the ball, still get feedback but don't see the ball! I think I line up open, need more mirror work. enjoy your videos, keep them coming

I could be wrong, but I feel like my main problem with putting is reading the greens. When I really know if/how a putt will break, I can usually make the short ones and get the longer ones reasonably close. Unfortunately, I tend to misjudge both line and distance. Sometimes I get the read right, but other times I am way off. My stroke may not be the best, but it is the reading of the greens that really seems off to me.
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 3 жыл бұрын
Bob, you are not alone. Most golfers have relatively decent putting strokes but simple do not read greens correctly. We have a couple great green reading videos on our channel. Check them out 👊

I would think that having a shorter follow-through than backswing would encourage deceleration through impact. How do you keep that from happening?
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Ideally we want the putter to be maintaining speed. Not accelerating nor decelerating. We have found most people do better at achieving this with a slightly shorter finish. Hope that helps.
@jamesterrell619

Why are you putting an alignment rod and tees on the ground? If you just make a dot and put a dime in front of it, it is a straight line to it. You are not squaring it to anything.

I feel that 60/40 rule may lead to deceleration for some. I had always heard more 40/60.

Fair point. The key is to get the clubhead to the speed before impact and then to maintain it through the impact zone.

What about those reeeeallly long uphill-ish putts? Getting the ball up to the hole without hitting so that the ball jumps. (Embarassed to be asking this! )
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. If the ball is "jumping" it is usually a result of too much loft on the putter. Next time you have a long uphill putt, move your hands a little more forward at address. Let us know how it goes!
