If you still have questions book an online parent consultation here: drlaurenbaker.clientsecure.me/request/service **clarification: moving towards hands/knees is most common to START at 6-9 months, but could be up to 11 months to crawl independently (9-11 months of independent crawling is within normal range), however, best to know if something else is going on if a kiddo is not crawling by 9-10 months on their own.

I am a nanny and very motivated to try these exercises for the baby I am going to take care off, she is 10 months old and still not crawling. The other babies I have taken care of before were mostly doing on their own when it was time but I also helped them, encouraged them on standing and walking mostly while they were already sitting up and able to crawl when I started.

Tsering, what an AMAZING nanny you are -- that family and babe are lucky to have you! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to add more comments as crawling is a tough cookie to crack sometimes with kiddos who have tightness in their trunks (which may be impacting a little's ability to crawl). Here is the crawling playlist: kzfaq.info/sun/PLxYt0JBWx03QAXXe0HL5A5WnN9Htyjx4K and here is the mobility playlist if you find these exercises are tough and there might be tightness: kzfaq.info/sun/PLxYt0JBWx03TxJKI4UNyEYImYnhsdq96g

Thank you so much for your amazing videos! I’m wondering what exercises should I do to help my baby to loosen tightness if she is not tolerating being in quadruped position?

My son has the first two, but now he just wants to do the worm across the floor and propell himself across the floor by flopping forward over and over.

Hi Jessica, how old if your little? If they are not yet 9/10 months, then that can be normal. Babies often start getting on all fours in the 6-9 month range, but may not be able to fully crawl until 9-11 months, which is totally normal. If your little is 9-11 months and not yet crawling, check out my free online course located here: drlaurenbaker.com/courses hope this helps! Lauren

At which month we can start

Hi Fathimas, thank you for the comment. Babies are appropriate for crawling between the ages of 9-11 months, some babies can begin to work toward crawling and all fours activities at 7-8 months, but we want to make sure they have mastered rolling from belly to back (right and left) and back to belly (right and left) -- so all four ways -- before they move onto crawling. A great way to make sure that your baby is ready for crawling is to check out the learning to crawl course (or learning to sit/roll if younger than 8 months) and go through the checklists: drlaurenbaker.com/courses [these courses are free!]

Hi Chanchal, this video might help give you some more information on the different sides of the neck and try to figure out how to best support your child going forward. If Tummy Time is still difficult at 10 months and they are not yet rolling or sitting on their own, a Pediatric Physical Therapist or Pediatric Physiotherapist in your area will be the best support for you. Here is the video on head control (still relevant even at 10 months) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prKnqKuFyZuum4U.htmlsi=K9u3PyP_cK1DhBRY My book Tummy Time & Learning to Roll can help with play positions to build neck strength and support rolling and is available internationally in paperback and kindle formats --> amzn.to/3Q8dg5U (affiliate link) Families who need more support can also book an online parent consult anytime here - drlaurenbaker.clientsecure.me/request/service I hope this is helpful! please let me know if you have more questions.

Hi Ayesha! Thank you for the comment. At 10 months we do want to make sure that your little has all of the building blocks he needs to master crawling and we don't waste this precious time in the event that something is blocking him from moving to the next milestone, especially because 9-11 months has A LOT of milestones packed in. My recommendation would be to go through my free learning to crawl online course and print out the checklists to make sure that your babe has all the crawling building blocks they need, and if any are blank start there. You can also go through the modules one by one! drlaurenbaker.com/courses I hope this helps! Lauren

My baby is 9 months old 6 weeks premature so really 7.5 months. She is crawling with her right leg tucked and left leg with foot on the ground. Can these exercises help her? Does she need a physical therapist? We have been using a activity center walker and feel bad because I think thats why shes doing this. Should we not use the activity center at all until this is corrected? Thanks in advance.

Hi Farrah, I am really excited about this question thank you for taking the time to ask it :) a few things: you can always any time you want for literally any reason based on a concern for movement reach out to a local PT, so if any of the resources I share do not help you very quickly, that would be my next step; however, that being said, she is still very young so you have some time to work on the "hitch crawling," which is what I call the one leg out movement. usually one leg out / hitch crawling is because of trunk tightness OR hip/core weakness (sometimes both). The learning to crawl free online course here will go through hitch crawling: drlaurenbaker.com/courses so highly recommend signing up and then going through all the modules. Specifically the mobility and lower trunk/hip strengthening and core strengthening modules. If you have a SIT IN walker where a baby sits in a sling and can push from a seated position, yes discontinue ASAP. Same goes for any activity centers where a baby sits in a sling and is not able to push fully through both feet flat one the ground (usually they require having a platform that is elevated). Jumper would also be something I would stop if you have been using those :) -- examples with pictures of all of these things in the course so definitely make sure to check that out so it's super clear! Good luck mama, you are doing amazing and your little is going to be in an even better spot with a few little mobility and strength tweeks!

@DrLaurenBaker

Hi Asinonu! Thanks for the comment. Babies can start to crawl at 7 months but most babies dont start crawling until 9-11 months. At 7 months, focus on rolling in all four directions, side sitting, helping babies transition into all fours if they can tolerate it (if not thats okay, work on helping them pivot on their bellies!). If youd like a full guided free online course for crawling and some areas you can work on to prepare babies for crawling all of my free online courses can be accessed here: drlaurenbaker.com/courses

My baby is 8 months old and can’t even straighten his arms to hold himself up. What can I do
@DrLaurenBaker
@DrLaurenBaker Жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, Thank you so much for the comment. There is SO MUCH you can do and you're absolutely in the right space and doing the right thing. 1. The biggest thing you can do if you're concerned is reach out to a local pediatric physical therapist or physiotherapist to evaluate your child and show you exactly what to work on, this is the absolute best and most valuable thing for parents to do (get early access to peds PT). If you don't have a peds PT in your area, you can always schedule an online consultation here and we can talk about all the milestones and specific exercises for those milestones that can help: drlaurenbaker.clientsecure.me/request/service For babies to hold themselves up in both sitting (propped sitting) and in order to transition to all fours they need upper trunk strength as well as head control strength. Babies who spend 60 minutes per day of tummy time from 3 months old are in the best spot for building that upper trunk strength. If a baby wasn't able to tolerate that or didn't have that opportunity can continue to build that upper trunk strength through the following exercises: - pull to sit with support at shoulders - side sitting for core strength - baby planks You can find all these exercises and more in the crawling playlist: kzfaq.info/sun/PLxYt0JBWx03QAXXe0HL5A5WnN9Htyjx4K I would additionally make sure a baby is able to roll in both directions and if not, focus on trunk rotation / rolling milestones even if they are age wise past that. Here is the rolling playlist: kzfaq.info/sun/PLxYt0JBWx03SHjgrAXqUkVXDgZ6Ox8lN6

Thank u so much for this video. My baby is 8 months old son. From 6 months he started crawling but not on his knees. So he pulls on tummy with support of hands and behind feet. I want to try this training maybe he can change. At 8 months hz now squeezing himself to stand.

Hi Balade dans la journee de bebe, I used google translate to see what your comment might say as I don't speak french. I agree that the pelvis is exceptionally important in helping a baby crawl and while it wasn't addressed as much in this video, there are lots of other videos that do address it, so I encourage you to keep searching. This video is three exercises that can help babes learn to crawl, but there are lots of others out there that can help too. I hope you find what you're looking for! Lauren

Hi Josh! Thanks so much for the comment and calling me out - honestly I have been SO PUMPED to see so many dads looking to help their littles that I am HAPPY to report that I was totally out of line only talking about moms in the beginning. In all my new videos I make sure to say proactive parents because babies truly need dads and I am so excited to see so many writing comments wanting to be included! I hope youll stick around and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
